1 Disse allora il sommo sacerdote: Stanno proprio cosi queste cose?	1 Then the high priest asked, "Is this so?"
2 Ma egli disse: Fratelli e padri, ascoltate: Il Dio della gloria apparve al nostro padre Abramo, mentre era in Mesopotamia avanti che dimorasse in Charan	2 And he replied, "My brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was in Mesopotamia, before he had settled in Haran,
3 e gli disse: Esci dal tuo paese e dal tuo parentado e vieni nella terra che io ti mostrerò.	3 and said to him, 'Go forth from your land and (from) your kinsfolk to the land that I will show you.'
4 Allora uscì dalla terra dei Caldei ed abitò in Charan. Di là, morto suo padre, lo fece venire in questo paese dove ora abitate voi.	4 So he went forth from the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. And from there, after his father died, he made him migrate to this land where you now dwell.
5 E non gli diede in esso proprietà alcuna, nemmeno tanto da posarvi un piede, ma gli promise di darne il possesso a lui ed ai suoi discendenti dopo di lui, quando ancor non aveva prole.	5 Yet he gave him no inheritance in it, not even a foot's length, but he did promise to give it to him and his descendants as a possession, even though he was childless.
6 E Dio gli disse che la sua discendenza sarebbe stata pellegrina in paesi altrui, e l'avrebbero tenuta in schiavitù e sarebbe maltrattata per quattrocento anni.	6 And God spoke thus, 'His descendants shall be aliens in a land not their own, where they shall be enslaved and oppressed for four hundred years;
7 Ma la gente a cui avran servito la giudicherò io, disse il Signore, e dopo questo usciranno e mi serviranno in questo luogo.	7 but I will bring judgment on the nation they serve,' God said, 'and after that they will come out and worship me in this place.'
8 E gli diede l'alleanza della circoncisione; e così egli generò Isacco e lo circoncise l'ottavo giorno, e Isacco Giacobbe, e Giacobbe i dodici patriarchi.	8 Then he gave him the covenant of circumcision, and so he became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day, as Isaac did Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.
9 E i patriarchi per gelosia vendettero Giuseppe che fu condotto in Egitto. Ma Dio era con lui.	9 "And the patriarchs, jealous of Joseph, sold him into slavery in Egypt; but God was with him
10 E lo liberò da tutte le sue tribolazioni e gli diede grazia e sapienza innanzi a Faraone re d'Egitto che lo costituì governatore dell'Egitto e di tutta la sua casa.	10 and rescued him from all his afflictions. He granted him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, who put him in charge of Egypt and (of) his entire household.
11 Or venne una gran carestia in tutto l'Egitto e in Canaan, e la miseria era grande, e i padri nostri non trovavano viveri.	11 Then a famine and great affliction struck all Egypt and Canaan, and our ancestors could find no food;
12 E Giacobbe udito che in Egitto c'era del grano vi mandò una prima volta i nostri padri.	12 but when Jacob heard that there was grain in Egypt, he sent our ancestors there a first time.
13 La seconda volta Giuseppe fu riconosciuto dai suoi fratelli, e fu nota a Faraone la stirpe di lui.	13 The second time, Joseph made himself known to his brothers, and Joseph's family became known to Pharaoh.
14 E Giuseppe mandò a chiamare suo padre Giacobbe e tutta la sua famiglia, di settantacinque anime.	14 Then Joseph sent for his father Jacob, inviting him and his whole clan, seventy-five persons;
15 E Giacobbe scese in Egitto e vi morì lui ed i padri nostri.	15 and Jacob went down to Egypt. And he and our ancestors died
16 E furon trasportati a Sichem, e posti nel sepolcro che Abramo aveva comprato a peso d'argento dai figli di Hemor figlioli di Sichem.	16 and were brought back to Shechem and placed in the tomb that Abraham had purchased for a sum of money from the sons of Hamor at Shechem.
17 Ma avvicinatosi il tempo della promessa che Dio aveva giurata ad Abramo, il popolo crebbe e si moltiplicò in Egitto,	17 "When the time drew near for the fulfillment of the promise that God pledged to Abraham, the people had increased and become very numerous in Egypt,
18 finchè venne in Egitto un altro re che nulla sapeva di Giuseppe.	18 until another king who knew nothing of Joseph came to power (in Egypt).
19 Costui usando astuzie contro la nostra stirpe, maltrattò i nostri padri in modo da far loro esporre i loro nati, affinchè non si propagassero.	19 He dealt shrewdly with our people and oppressed (our) ancestors by forcing them to expose their infants, that they might not survive.
20 Nello stesso tempo nacque Mosè, che fu caro a Dio e fu nutrito per tre mesi nella casa di suo padre.	20 At this time Moses was born, and he was extremely beautiful. For three months he was nursed in his father's house;
21 E quando fu esposto, la figlia di Faraone lo raccolse e se lo allevò come figlio.	21 but when he was exposed, Pharaoh's daughter adopted him and brought him up as her own son.
22 E Mosè fu istruito in tutta la sapienza degli Egiziani, e fu potente in parole ed in opere.	22 Moses was educated (in) all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in his words and deeds.
23 A quarantanni compiuti gli venne in cuore di visitare i suoi fratelli, i figli d'Israele.	23 "When he was forty years old, he decided to visit his kinsfolk, the Israelites.
24 E vedutone uno maltrattato, lo difese e vendicò l'oppresso, uccidendo l'Egiziano.	24 When he saw one of them treated unjustly, he defended and avenged the oppressed man by striking down the Egyptian.
25 Ora egli pensava che i suoi fratelli comprenderebbero come Dio li avrebbe salvati per mano di lui, ma essi non compresero.	25 He assumed (his) kinsfolk would understand that God was offering them deliverance through him, but they did not understand.
26 Il giorno seguente si presentò ad essi mentre altercavano e tentava rappacificarli, dicendo: Uomini, voi siete fratelli, perchè vi maltrattate l'uno con l'altro?	26 The next day he appeared to them as they were fighting and tried to reconcile them peacefully, saying, 'Men, you are brothers. Why are you harming one another?'
27 Ma colui che faceva ingiuria al prossimo, lo respinse, dicendo:	27 Then the one who was harming his neighbor pushed him aside, saying, 'Who appointed you ruler and judge over us?
28 Chi t'ha costituito nostro capo e giudice? Vuoi forse uccidere me come ieri uccidesti l'Egiziano?	28 Are you thinking of killing me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?'
29 A questa parola Mosè fuggì e stette pellegrino nella terra di Madian, ove ebbe due figli.	29 Moses fled when he heard this and settled as an alien in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons.
30 E passati quarantanni, gli apparve nel deserto del monte Sinai un Angelo nel fuoco fiammante d'un roveto.	30 "Forty years later, an angel appeared to him in the desert near Mount Sinai in the flame of a burning bush.
31 E Mosè, veduto ciò, si stupì dell'apparizione, e, accostatosi per meglio osservare, giunse a lui la voce del Signore che gli disse:	31 When Moses saw it, he was amazed at the sight, and as he drew near to look at it, the voice of the Lord came,
32 Io sono il Dio dei tuoi padri, il Dio d'Àbramo, il Dio d'Isacco, il Dio di Giacobbe. Mosè, atterrito, non ardiva osservare.	32 'I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob.' Then Moses, trembling, did not dare to look at it.
33 Ma il Signore gli disse: Togliti dai piedi i calzari, perchè il luogo dove stai è terra santa.	33 But the Lord said to him, 'Remove the sandals from your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.
34 Ho veduto l'afflizione del popolo mio che è in Egitto, ne ho ascoltato il lamento e son disceso a liberarli. Or vieni, che ti manderò in Egitto.	34 I have witnessed the affliction of my people in Egypt and have heard their groaning, and I have come down to rescue them. Come now, I will send you to Egypt.'
35 E quel Mosè che avevan rinnegato, dicendo: Chi ti ha costituito capo e giudice? Dio lo mandò loro come capo e liberatore, colla scorta dell'Angelo che gli era apparso nel roveto.	35 This Moses, whom they had rejected with the words, 'Who appointed you ruler and judge?' God sent as (both) ruler and deliverer, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
36 Egli li trasse fuori, facendo prodigi e segni nella terra d'Egitto e nel Mar Rosso e nel deserto, per quarantanni.	36 This man led them out, performing wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, at the Red Sea, and in the desert for forty years.
37 Questi è quel Mosè che disse ai figli d'Israele: Dio vi susciterà un profeta come me tra i vostri fratelli; ascoltatelo.	37 It was this Moses who said to the Israelites, 'God will raise up for you, from among your own kinsfolk, a prophet like me.'
38 Questi è colui che nell'adunanza del popolo nel deserto, stette Coll'Angelo che gli parlava sul monte Sinai, e coi nostri padri, colui che riceve, per trasmettercele, le parole di vita.	38 It was he who, in the assembly in the desert, was with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai and with our ancestors, and he received living utterances to hand on to us.
39 Ma i nostri padri non lo vollero ubbidire, anzi lo respinsero, e si rivolsero coi loro cuori all'Egitto dicendo ad Aronne:	39 "Our ancestors were unwilling to obey him; instead, they pushed him aside and in their hearts turned back to Egypt,
40 Facci degli dèi che ci precedano, perchè di quel Mosè che ci ha tratti dalla terra d'Egitto non sappiamo che ne sia stato.	40 saying to Aaron, 'Make us gods who will be our leaders. As for that Moses who led us out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has happened to him.'
41 Ed in quei giorni fecero un vitello ed offrirono sacrifizi all'idolo e si rallegraron dell'opera delle loro mani.	41 So they made a calf in those days, offered sacrifice to the idol, and reveled in the works of their hands.
42 Ma Dio si rivolse da loro e li diede a servire alla milizia del cielo, come sta scritto, nel libro dei profeti: M'avete forse offerto vittime e sacrifizi per quarantanni nel deserto, o casa d'Israele?	42 Then God turned and handed them over to worship the host of heaven, as it is written in the book of the prophets: 'Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings for forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?
43 Voi invece avete alzato la tenda di Moloch, e l'astro del vostro dio Remfam, figure fatte da voi per adorarle. Ed io vi trasporterò al di là di Babilonia.	43 No, you took up the tent of Moloch and the star of (your) god Rephan, the images that you made to worship. So I shall take you into exile beyond Babylon.'
44 I padri nostri avevan nel deserto la tenda del testimonio, conforme aveva ordinato Dio, dicendo a Mosè di farla secondo il modello che aveva veduto.	44 "Our ancestors had the tent of testimony in the desert just as the One who spoke to Moses directed him to make it according to the pattern he had seen.
45 E, ricevutala, i padri nostri la portarono con Giosuè a prender possesso delle genti, che Dio scacciò davanti ai padri nostri fino ai giorni di David.	45 Our ancestors who inherited it brought it with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out from before our ancestors, up to the time of David,
46 Il quale trovò grazia presso Dio e pregò di trovare una dimora pel Dio di Giacobbe.	46 who found favor in the sight of God and asked that he might find a dwelling place for the house of Jacob.
47 Ma fu Salomone quello che gli edificò una casa.	47 But Solomon built a house for him.
48 L'Altissimo però non abita in templi fatti dalla mano dell'uomo, come dice il profeta:	48 Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made by human hands. As the prophet says:
49 Il cielo è il mio trono, e la terra sgabello dei miei piedi. Qual casa mi edificherete? dice il Signore, o qual sarà il luogo del mio riposo?	49 'The heavens are my throne, the earth is my footstool. What kind of house can you build for me? says the Lord, or what is to be my resting place?
50 Non ha la mia mano fatte tutte queste cose?	50 Did not my hand make all these things?'
51 Di dura cervice e incirconcisi di cuore e d'orecchio, voi resistete allo Spirito Santo; come i padri vostri così anche voi.	51 "You stiff-necked people, uncircumcised in heart and ears, you always oppose the holy Spirit; you are just like your ancestors.
52 Qual dei profeti non perseguitarono i padri vostri? Uccisero perfino coloro che preannunciavano la venuta del Giusto, del quale voi siete ora stati i traditori e gli assassini.	52 Which of the prophets did your ancestors not persecute? They put to death those who foretold the coming of the righteous one, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become.
53 Voi che riceveste la legge per ministero di Angeli, non l'avete osservata.	53 You received the law as transmitted by angels, but you did not observe it."
54 Ed essi, nell'udire queste cose, fremevano nei loro cuori e digrignavano i denti contro di lui.	54 When they heard this, they were infuriated, and they ground their teeth at him.
55 Ma egli, pieno di Spirito Santo, fìssati gli occhi nel cielo, vide la gloria di Dio e Gesù che stava alla destra di Dio; ed esclamò: Ecco vedo aperti i cieli, ed il Figlio dell'uomo stare alla destra di Dio.	55 But he, filled with the holy Spirit, looked up intently to heaven and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing at the right hand of God,
56 Ma quelli, alzando grandi grida, si turarono le orecchie e tutti insieme gli s'avventarono addosso.	56 and he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God."
57 E, trascinatolo fuori della città, si diedero a lapidarlo e i testimoni deposero le loro vesti ai piedi di un giovane chiamato Saulo.	57 But they cried out in a loud voice, covered their ears, and rushed upon him together.
58 E lapidavano Stefano, che pregava e diceva: Signore Gesù, ricevi il mio spirito.	58 They threw him out of the city, and began to stone him. The witnesses laid down their cloaks at the feet of a young man named Saul.
59 Poì piegati i ginocchi, gridò a gran voce: Signore, non imputar loro questo peccato. Ciò detto, si addormentò nel Signore. E Saulo approvava il di lui assassinio.	59 As they were stoning Stephen, he called out, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit."
	60 Then he fell to his knees and cried out in a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them"; and when he said this, he fell asleep.
