Deuteronomio 5

1 Mosè convocò tutto Israele e gli disse: « Ascolta, o Israele, le cerimonie e le ordinazioni che oggi io proclamo alle vostre orecchie; imparatele e mettetele in pratica.	1 Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and decrees which I proclaim in your hearing this day, that you may learn them and take care to observe them.
2 In Oreb il Signore Dio nostro fece un patto con noi:	2 The LORD, our God, made a covenant with us at Horeb;
3 non lo fece coi nostri padri; ma con noi che siam presenti e viviamo.	3 not with our fathers did he make this covenant, but with us, all of us who are alive here this day.
4 Egli sul monte ci parlò faccia, a faccia, di mezzo al fuoco.	4 The LORD spoke with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire.
5 Io fui allora l'interprete e il mediatore tra il Signore e voi e vi annunziavo le sue parole, perchè voi, temendo quel fuoco, non osaste salire sul monte. Egli disse:	5 Since you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain, I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to announce to you these words of the LORD:
6 Io sono il Signore Dio tuo, che ti ho tratto dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.	6 'I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.
7 Non avere altri dèi nel mio cospetto.	7 You shall not have other gods besides me.
8 Non ti fare alcuna scultura nè imagine delle cose che sono lassù in cielo, nè di quelle che sono quaggiù in terra o nelle acque sotto terra.	8 You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth;
9 Non le adorare, non render loro culto; perchè io sono il Signore Dio tuo, Dio geloso, che punisco l'iniquità dei padri sopra i figli, fino alla terza e alla quarta generazione di coloro che mi odiano,	9 you shall not bow down before them or worship them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishments for their fathers' wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation
10 ed uso misericordia fino alla millesima generazione a coloro che mi amano e osservano i miei comandamenti.	10 but bestowing mercy, down to the thousandth generation, on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments.
11 Non proferire invano il nome del Signore Dio tuo, perchè non resterà impunito chi proferirà quel nome per una cosa vana.	11 'You shall not take the name of the LORD, your God, in vain. For the LORD will not leave unpunished him who takes his name in vain.
12 Osserva il giorno di sabato, santificalo, come ti ha comandato il Signore Dio tuo.	12 'Take care to keep holy the sabbath day as the LORD, your God, commanded you.
13 Lavorerai per sei giorni e farai in essi tutti i tuoi lavori,	13 Six days you may labor and do all your work;
14 ma il settimo è il giorno del sabato, cioè del riposo del Signore Dio tuo. In esso non farai alcun lavoro, nè tu, nè il tuo figlio, nè la tua figlia, nè il tuo servo, nè la tua serva, nè il tuo bue, nè il tuo asino, nè alcuna delle tue bestie, nè il forestiero che è dentro le tue porte. Affinchè il tuo servo e la tua serva possano riposarsi come te,	14 but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, your God. No work may be done then, whether by you, or your son or daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or ass or any of your beasts, or the alien who lives with you. Your male and female slave should rest as you do.
15 ricordati che anche tu sei stato servo in Egitto, e che il Signore Dio tuo ti ha tratto di là con mano possente e braccio disteso. Per questo il Signore ti comanda d'osservare il giorno del sabato.	15 For remember that you too were once slaves in Egypt, and the LORD, your God, brought you from there with his strong hand and outstretched arm. That is why the LORD, your God, has commanded you to observe the sabbath day.
16 Onora tuo padre e tua madre, come il Signore Dio tuo ti ha comandato, affinchè tù possa vivere lungamente ed aver bene sopra la terra che il Signore Dio tuo sta per darti.	16 'Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD, your God, has commanded you, that you may have a long life and prosperity in the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you.
17 Non ammazzare.	17 'You shall not kill.
18 Non commettere adulterio.	18 'You shall not commit adultery.
19 Non rubare.	19 'You shall not steal.
20 Non dir falsa testimonianza contro il tuo prossimo.	20 'You shall not bear dishonest witness against your neighbor.
21 Non desiderare la moglie del tuo prossimo, nè la casa, nè il campo, nè il servo, nè la serva, nè il bue, nè l'asino, nè alcun'altra cosa che appartengano a lui.	21 'You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. 'You shall not desire your neighbor's house or field, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass, nor anything that belongs to him.'
22 Queste parole il Signore le disse a tutta la vostra assemblea, di mezzo al fuoco, tra le nubi e la caligine, con voce potente, e non aggiunse altro: le scrisse su due tavole di pietra e me le diede.	22 "These words, and nothing more, the LORD spoke with a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from the midst of the fire and the dense cloud. He wrote them upon two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
23 Ma dopo aver sentita quella voce tra le tenebre ed aver veduto il monte in fiamme, voi tutti, principi delle tribù e anziani, veniste da me e diceste:	23 But when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, you came to me in the person of all your tribal heads and elders,
24 Ecco, il Signore ci ha fatto vedere la sua maestà e la sua grandezza; abbiamo udita la sua voce di mezzo al fuoco; oggi abbiamo provato che parlando Dio coll'uomo, l'uomo può rimanere in vita.	24 and said, 'The LORD, our God, has indeed let us see his glory and his majesty! We have heard his voice from the midst of the fire and have found out today that a man can still live after God has spoken with him.
25 Ma perchè dovremo noi morire ed essere divorati da questo gran fuoco? Se continuiamo a sentire la voce del Signore Dio nostro, noi morremo!	25 But why should we die now? Surely this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the LORD, our God, any more, we shall die.
26 E qual è il mortale che possa udire la voce del Dio vivente che parla di mezzo ai fuoco, come l'abbiamo sentita noi, e possa restare in vita?	26 For what mortal has heard, as we have, the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of fire, and survived?
27 Pìuttosto appressati tu, e, ascoltato tutto quello che il Signore Dio nostro ti dirà, ce lo riferirai, e noi l'ascolteremo e lo faremo.	27 Go closer, you, and hear all that the LORD, our God, will say, and then tell us what the LORD, our God, tells you; we will listen and obey.'
28 Sentita la cosa, il Signore mi disse: Ho udito il suono delle parole che questo popolo t'ha rivolte: han parlato bene in tutto.	28 "The LORD heard your words as you were speaking to me and said to me, 'I have heard the words these people have spoken to you, which are all well said.
29 Chi darà loro d'avere un tale spirito, da temermi e da osservare sempre i miei comandamenti, affinchè essi e i loro figli sian felici in eterno?	29 Would that they might always be of such a mind, to fear me and to keep all my commandments! Then they and their descendants would prosper forever.
30 Va, e di' loro: Tornate alle vostre tende.	30 Go, tell them to return to their tents.
31 Ma tu rimani qui con me ed io ti esporrò tutti i miei precetti, le cerimonie e le ordinazioni che insegnerai loro, affinchè le mettano in pratica nel paese che darò loro in possesso.	31 Then you wait here near me and I will give you all the commandments, the statutes and decrees you must teach them, that they may observe them in the land which I am giving them to possess.'
32 Abbiate dunque cura di fare ciò che il Signore Dio vi ha comandato; senza volgere a destra o a sinistra,	32 "Be careful, therefore, to do as the LORD, your God, has commanded you, not turning aside to the right or to the left,
33 camminate per quella via che il Signore Dio vi ha prescritta, affinchè abbiate vita e bene, e si prolunghino i vostri giorni nella terra di cui otterrete il possesso.	33 but following exactly the way prescribed for you by the LORD, your God, that you may live and prosper, and may have long life in the land which you are to occupy.
