1 E quando furono vicini a Gerusalemme, a Betania, presso il monte degli Ulivi, mandò due dei suoi discepoli dicendo loro:	1 And as they were approaching Jerusalem and Bethania, toward the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,
2 Andate nel villaggio che vi sta di faccia, e appena vi sarete entrati, troverete legato un puledro sul quale nessuno è ancora montato; scioglietelo e menatelo qui.	2 and he said to them: “Go into the village that is opposite you, and immediately upon entering there, you will find a colt tied, on which no man has yet sat. Release him and bring him.
3 E se alcuno vi dirà: Che fate voi? ditegli che ne ha bisogno il Signore, e subito lo lascerà venire.	3 And if anyone will say to you: ‘What are you doing?’ Say that the Lord has need of him. And he will immediately send him here.”
4 Ed essi andando, trovarono il puledro legato fuori davanti a un uscio in un bivio: e lo sciolsero.	4 And going out, they found the colt tied before the outer gate, at the meeting of two ways. And they untied him.
5 Ed alcuni che erano lì dissero loro: Che fate voi, che sciogliete il puledro?	5 And some of those who were standing there said to them, “What are you doing by releasing the colt?”
6 Ed essi risposero come Gesù aveva detto e quelli li lasciaron fare.	6 And they spoke to them just as Jesus had instructed them. And they permitted them.
7 E condussero il puledro a Gesù, gettaron su quello i loro mantelli, ed egli vi montò sopra.	7 And they led the colt to Jesus. And they placed their garments on it; and he sat upon it.
8 E molti stendevano le loro vesti per la via, altri poi troncavano ramoscelli dagli alberi e li spargevano per la strada.	8 Then many spread their garments along the way; but others cut down leafy branches from trees and scattered them on the way.
9 E quelli che precedevano, e quelli che venivano, gridavano : Osanna!	9 And those who went ahead, and those who followed, cried out saying: “Hosanna! Blessed is he who has arrived in the name of the Lord.
10 Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore! Benedetto il regno che viene, del nostro padre David. Osanna nel più alto dei cieli.	10 Blessed is the advent of the kingdom of our father David. Hosanna in the highest!”
11 Ed entrato in Gerusalemme si recò al tempio, ed osservata ogni cosa, essendo già tardi, andò a Befania coi dodici.	11 And he entered into Jerusalem, into the temple. And having looked around at everything, since it was now the evening hour, he went out to Bethania with the twelve.
12 E il giorno seguente, usciti che furono di Betania, ebbe fame.	12 And the next day, as they were departing from Bethania, he was hungry.
13 E visto da lontano un fico pieno di foglie, andò a vedere se per caso vi trovasse qualche cosa, ma avvicinatosi, non trovò che foglie, non essendo la stagione dei fichi.	13 And when he had seen a fig tree with leaves in the distance, he went to it, in case he might find something on it. And when he had gone to it, he found nothing but leaves. For it was not the season for figs.
14 E Gesù a quella pianta: Nessuno in eterno mangi più del tuo frutto! E i discepoli sentirono.	14 And in response, he said to it, “From now on and forever, may no one eat fruit from you again!” And his disciples heard this.
15 Vennero poi a Gerusalemme. Ed entrato che fu nel tempio, si mise a scacciar quanti in esso vendevano e comperavano e rovesciò i banchi dei cambiamonete e le seggiole dei venditori di colombe.	15 And they went to Jerusalem. And when he had entered into the temple, he began to cast out the sellers and the buyers in the temple. And he overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the chairs of the vendors of doves.
16 E non permetteva ad alcuno di portare oggetti attraverso al tempio.	16 And he would not permit anyone to carry goods through the temple.
17 E incominciò ad insegnare dicendo: Non sta scritto: La mia casa è casa di orazione per tutte le genti? Ma voi ne avete fatta una spelonca di ladri.	17 And he taught them, saying: “Is it not written: ‘For my house shall be called the house of prayer for all nations?’ But you have made it into a den of robbers.”
18 Udite queste cose, i principi dei sacerdoti e gli Scribi cercavano come farlo morire, che lo temevano ammirando tutta la grande folla la sua dottrina.	18 And when the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, had heard this, they sought a means by which they might destroy him. For they feared him, because the entire multitude was in admiration over his doctrine.
19 E venuta la sera, uscì dalla città.	19 And when evening had arrived, he departed from the city.
20 E la mattina come ripassarono videro il fico secco, seccato fin dalle radici.	20 And when they passed by in the morning, they saw that the fig tree had dried up from the roots.
21 E Pietro rammentandosene, gli disse: Maestro, guarda il fico da te maledetto, è seccato.	21 And Peter, remembering, said to him, “Master, behold, the fig tree that you cursed has withered.”
22 E Gesù rispose loro: Abbiate fede in Dio.	22 And in response, Jesus said to them: “Have the faith of God.
23 In verità vi dico che se uno dirà a questo monte: levati e gettati in mare, e non esiterà nel suo cuore, ma crederà che avvenga quanto ha detto, gli avverrà.	23 Amen I say to you, that whoever will say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and who will not have hesitated in his heart, but will have believed: then whatever he has said be done, it shall be done for him.
24 Perciò vi dico: qualunque cosa chiederete colla preghiera, abbiate fede d'ottenerla e l'otterrete.	24 For this reason, I say to you, all things whatsoever that you ask for when praying: believe that you will receive them, and they will happen for you.
25 E quando state a pregare, se avete qualche cosa contro qualcuno, perdonate, affinchè anche il vostro Padre che è nei cieli perdoni i vostri falli.	25 And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father, who is in heaven, may also forgive you your sins.
26 Chè se voi non perdonerete, nemmeno il vostro Padre che è nei cieli perdonerà a voi i vostri peccati.	26 But if you will not forgive, neither will your Father, who is in heaven, forgive you your sins.”
27 Poi tornarono a Gerusalemme. E mentre camminava pel tempio, i sommi sacerdoti, gli Scribi e gli anziani s'accostarono a lui	27 And they went again to Jerusalem. And when he was walking in the temple, the leaders of the priests, and the scribes, and the elders approached him.
28 e gli dissero: Con quale autorità fai questo? E chi ti ha dato il potere di far tali cose?	28 And they said to him: “By what authority do you do these things? And who has given you this authority, so that you would do these things?”
29 Ma Gesù rispose loro: Vi domanderò anch'io una cosa: rispondetemi e vi dirò con quale autorità faccia questo:	29 But in response, Jesus said to them: “I also will ask you one word, and if you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
30 Il battesimo di Giovanni era dal cielo o dagli uomini? Rispondetemi.	30 The baptism of John: was it from heaven or from men? Answer me.”
31 Or essi ragionavano fra di loro, dicendo: Se rispondiamo: dal cielo, dirà allora: Perchè non gli avete creduto?	31 But they discussed it among themselves, saying: “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will say, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’
32 Se diciamo: dagli uomini, abbiamo paura del popolo. Tutti infatti tenevano Giovanni per vero profeta.	32 If we say, ‘From men,’ we fear the people. For they all hold that John was a true prophet.”
33 Quindi risposero a Ghsù: Non lo sappiamo. E Gesù a loro: Neppure io vi dico con quale autorità faccia queste cose.	33 And answering, they said to Jesus, “We do not know.” And in response, Jesus said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
