| 2 Andatovi a lavarsi i piedi, ecco uscire un gran pesce a divorarlo. | 2 Then the young man went down to wash himself. A fish leaped up from the river and would have swallowed the young man; |
| 3 Spaventato, Tobia diede un gran grido: « Signore, mi assale». | 3 and the angel said to him, "Catch the fish." So the young man seized the fish and threw it up on the land. |
| 4 Ma l'angelo gli disse: « Prendilo per le branchie e tiralo a te ». Avendo ciò fatto, egli lo tirò a secco, e (il pesce) cominciò a palpitare ai suoi piedi. | 4 Then the angel said to him, "Cut open the fish and take the heart and liver and gall and put them away safely." |
| 5 Allora l'angelo gli disse: « Sventra questo pesce, e conservane il cuore, il fiele e il fegato; perchè questo cose sono necessarie per utili medicamenti ». | 5 So the young man did as the angel told him; and they roasted and ate the fish. And they both continued on their way until they came near to Ecbatana. |
| 6 Fatto questo e arrostite delle sue carni, se le portarono pel viaggio, salando il resto, affinchè bastasse loro fino a Rages città dei Medi. | 6 Then the young man said to the angel, "Brother Azarias, of what use is the liver and heart and gall of the fish?" |

| 20 la seconda notte sarai ammesso nella società dei santi patriarchi; | |
| 21 la terza notte otterrai la benedizione, affinchè da voi nascano dei figli perfettamente sani. | |
| 22 Passata poi la terza notte prenderai, nel santo timor del Signore, la vergine, mosso più da desiderio di prole che da libidine; così otterrai nei tuoi figli la benedizione promessa alla stirpe di Abramo ». | |
