1 Quando David ebbe di poco passata la cima del monte, comparve Siba, servo di Mifiboset, che gli veniva incontro con due asini carichi di duecento pani, di cento penzoli d'uva secca, di cento canestri di fichi e di un otre di vino.	1 And when David had passed a little beyond the top of the mountain, Ziba, the servant of Mephibosheth, appeared to meet him, with two donkeys, which were burdened with two hundred loaves, and one hundred bunches of dried grapes, and one hundred masses of dried figs, and a skin of wine.
2 Il re disse a Siba: « Che voglion dir queste cose? » E Siba a lui: « Gli asini son per i domestici del re come cavalcatura; i pani e i fichi, perchè li mangino i tuoi servi; il vino, perchè ne beva chi si trovasse spossato nel deserto ».	2 And the king said to Ziba, “What do you intend to do with these things?” And Ziba responded: “The donkeys are for the household of the king, so that they may sit. And the loaves and dried figs are for your servants to eat. But the wine is for anyone to drink who may be faint in the desert.”
3 Il re disse: « Dov'è il figlio del tuo signore?» Siba rispose al re: «E' restato a Gerusalemme, perchè dice: Oggi la casa d'Israele mi restituirà il regno di mio padre ».	3 And the king said, “Where is the son of your lord?” And Ziba answered the king: “He remained in Jerusalem, saying, ‘Today, the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.’ ”
4 Allora il re disse a Siba: « Tutto quello che fu di Mifiboset è tuo ». Siba rispose: « Io chiedo di trovar grazia dinanzi a te, o re mio signore ».	4 And the king said to Ziba, “All the things which were for Mephibosheth are now yours.” And Ziba said, “I beg you that I may find grace before you, my lord the king.”
5 Quando il re David giunse a Bahurim, ecco uscir fuori di là un uomo della famiglia della casa di Saul, chiamato Semei, figlio di Gera. Egli facendosi innanzi, malediceva,	5 Then king David went as far as Bahurim. And behold, a man from the kindred of the house of Saul, named Shimei, the son of Gera, went out from there. And going out, he continued on, and he was cursing,
6 e tirava sassi contro David e contro i servi del re David, mentre tutto il popolo e tutti i combattenti marciavano a destra e a sinistra del re.	6 and throwing stones against David and against all the servants of king David. And all the people and all the warriors were traveling to the right and to the left sides of the king.
7 Semei diceva così nel maledire il re: «Vattene, vattene, uomo di sangue, uomo di Belial.	7 And so, as he was cursing the king, Shimei said: “Go away, go away, you man of blood, and you man of Belial!
8 Il Signore ha fatto ricader su te tutto il sangue della casa di Saul, perchè tu usurpasti il regno; il Signore ha dato il regno nelle mani di Assalonne tuo figlio, ed ecco ti opprimono i tuoi mali, perchè tu sei un uomo di sangue ».	8 The Lord has repaid you for all the blood of the house of Saul. For you have usurped the kingdom in place of him. And so, the Lord has given the kingdom into the hand of Absalom, your son. And behold, your evils press close upon you, because you are a man of blood.”
9 Abisai figlio di Sarvia disse al re: « Perchè questo cane morto deve maledire il re mio signore? Or vado io e gli taglio la testa ».	9 Then Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, said to the king: “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go and cut off his head.”
10 Ma il re disse: « Che cosa c'è tra me e voi, o figlio di Sarvia? Lasciate che maledica: il Signore gli ha comandato di maledir David; e chi gli potrà dire perchè abbia agito a questa maniera? »	10 And the king said: “What is it to me and to all of you, O sons of Zeruiah? Permit him, so that he may curse. For the Lord has commanded him to curse David. And who is the one who would dare to say, ‘Why has he done so?’ ”
11 Poi David disse ad Abisai e a tutti i suoi servi: « Ecco il mio figlio, colui che è uscito dalle mie viscere, vuole la mia vita, quanto più dunque un figlio di Iemini? Lasciatelo maledire secondo l'ordine del Signore.	11 And the king said to Abishai and to all his servants: “Behold, my son, who went forth from my loins, is seeking my life. How much more does a son of Benjamin do so now? Permit him, so that he may curse, in accord with the command of the Lord.
12 Può essere che il Signore riguardi la mia afflizione, e mi renda del bene per la maledizione di questo giorno ».	12 Perhaps the Lord may look with favor upon my affliction, and the Lord may repay me good, in place of the cursing of this day.”
13 David con la sua gente seguitava per la sua strada, mentre Semei, che camminava sulla cresta del monte di faccia a lui, seguitava a maledirlo, tirandogli sassi e gettando terra.	13 And so, David continued walking along the way, and his associates with him. But Shimei was advancing along the ridge of the mountain on the side opposite him, cursing and throwing stones at him, and scattering dirt.
14 Finalmente il re e tutta la gente che era con lui arrivarono al posto ed ivi si ristorarono.	14 And the king and the entire people with him, being weary, went and refreshed themselves there.
15 Intanto Assalonne, che aveva seco Achitòfel, con tutto il popolo entrò in Gerusalemme.	15 But Absalom and all his people entered into Jerusalem. Moreover, Ahithophel was with him.
16 Or quando Cusai Arachita, amico di David, andò da Assalonne, gli disse: « Dio ti salvi, o re; Dio ti salvi, o re! »	16 And when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, had gone to Absalom, he said to him: “May you be well, O king! May you be well, O king!”
17 E Assalonne gli disse: « E' questa la tua gratitudine verso il tuo amico? Perchè non sei andato col tuo amico? »	17 And Absalom said to him: “Is this your kindness to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?”
18 Cusai rispose ad Assalonne: « No: io sarò di colui che il Signore, tutto questo popolo e tutto Israele hanno eletto; io resterò con lui.	18 And Hushai responded to Absalom: “By no means! For I will be his, whom the Lord has chosen. And I, and all this people, and all of Israel, will remain with him.
19 Di più, di chi mi metto a servizio? Non è forse il figlio del re? Come obbedii al padre tuo, così obbedirò anche a te ».	19 But then too, I declare this: whom should I serve? Is it not the son of the king? Just as I have been subject to your father, so will I be subject to you also.”
20 Poi Assalonne disse ad Achitòfel: « Deliberate sul da farsi ».	20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Present a counsel as to what we ought to do.”
21 Achitòfel disse ad Assalonne: « Entra dalle concubine di tuo padre, ch'egli lasciò a custodire la casa, così quando tutto Israele saprà che hai disonorato tuo padre, le mani dei tuoi diverran più forti ».	21 And Ahithophel said to Absalom: “Enter to the concubines of your father, whom he left behind in order to care for the house. Thus, when all of Israel will hear that you disgraced your father, their hands may be strengthened with you.”
22 Alzarono adunque per Assalonne un padiglione sul tetto, e Assalonne entrò dalle concubine di suo padre davanti a tutto Israele.	22 Therefore, they spread a tent for Absalom on the rooftop. And he entered to the concubines of his father in the sight of all Israel.
23 In quei giorni il consiglio che dava Achitò­fel era come l'oracolo di Dio: tale era il consiglio d'Achitofel, tanto quando era con David, come quando era con Assalonne.	23 Now the counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was treated as if one were consulting God. So was every counsel of Ahithophel, both when he was with David, and when he was with Absalom.
