| 1 - Giustificati dunque dalla fede, abbiano pace con Dio per mezzo del nostro Signor Gesù Cristo; | 1 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. |
| 2 per il quale abbiamo anche avuto, mediante la fede, adito a questa grazia in cui siamo, e di cui meniamo vanto nella speranza della gloria dei figliuoli di Dio. | 2 Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God. |
| 3 Nè solo questo, ma ci vantiamo anche nelle tribolazioni, sapendo che la tribolazione produce tolleranza, | 3 More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, |
| 4 la tolleranza produce virtù provata, la virtù provata, speranza; | 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, |
| 5 e la speranza non inganna, perchè l'amore divino s'è riversato nei nostri cuori per lo Spirito Santo che ci fu dato. | 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. |
| 6 Difatti, perchè mai essendo noi ancora deboli, al suo tempo Cristo morì per gli empi? | 6 While we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. |
| 7 or a mala pena altri morrà per un giusto, e per un uomo dabbene qualcuno forse avrà cuore di morire; | 7 Why, one will hardly die for a righteous man--though perhaps for a good man one will dare even to die. |
| 8 ma Dio dà a vedere il suo vivo amore per noi, perchè essendo noi ancora peccatori, | 8 But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. |
| 9 Cristo per noi è morto. Or dunque, giustificati nel sangue di lui, tanto più saremo a mezzo di lui salvati dall'ira. | 9 Since, therefore, we are now justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God. |
| 10 Giacchè se, essendo nemici, siamo stati riconciliati a Dio per la morte di suo Figlio, tanto più, riconciliati, saremo salvati nella vita di lui; | 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. |
| 11 nè solo questo, ma anche ci gloriamo in Dio per opera del Signore Nostro Gesù Cristo, per mezzo del quale ora abbiamo ottenuto la riconciliazione. | 11 Not only so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received our reconciliation. |
| 12 Per questo, come per opera d'un sol uomo entrò la colpa nel mondo, e per la colpa la morte, e così a tutti gli uomini s'è estesa la morte in quanto che tutti peccarono. | 12 Therefore as sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned-- |
| 13 Giacchè fino alla Legge v'era sì la colpa, nel mondo, ma la colpa non s'imputava non essendovi la legge. | 13 sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law. |
| 14 Nondimeno, regnò la morte da Adamo fino a Mosè, anche su quelli che non avevan peccato trasgredendo la legge come aveva fatto Adamo; il quale è figura di colui che doveva venire. | 14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come. |
| 15 Ma non come il fallo è il dono, poichè se per la colpa d'uno tutti gli altri morirono, molto di più la grazia di Dio, e il dono nella grazia dell'unico uomo Gesù Cristo, ridondò a vantaggio di tutti. | 15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many. |
| 16 E non come nel caso di quell'unico che fu colpevole è stato il dono; poichè in seguito a quell'unico si voltò in condanna il giudizio, la grazia in seguito a molte colpe si voltò in giustificazione. | 16 And the free gift is not like the effect of that one man's sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brings justification. |
| 17 Se per il fallo di un solo regnò la morte per via d'uno, molto più quelli che ricevono l'abbondanza della grazia e del dono della giustizia, in vita regneranno per via dell'unico Gesù Cristo. | 17 If, because of one man's trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ. |
| 18 Adunque come per un solo fallo si venne a una condanna per tutti gli uomini, così un unico atto di giustizia riescì per tutti gli uomini a giustificazione di vita. | 18 Then as one man's trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one man's act of righteousness leads to acquittal and life for all men. |
| 19 Come per la disobbedienza di uno i molti sono stati costituiti peccatori; così per l'obbedienza di uno i molti saranno costituiti giusti. | 19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by one man's obedience many will be made righteous. |
| 20 La legge poi sopraggiunse sì che abbondò il fallo; ma dove abbondò il peccato ivi sovrabbondò la grazia, | 20 Law came in, to increase the trespass; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, |
| 21 affinchè come aveva regnato il fallo nella morte, così regni la grazia propria della giustizia, in eterno, per opera di Gesù Cristo nostro Signore. | 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
