BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Un giorno di sabato, detto secondo-primo, egli attraversava dei campi di grano e i suoi discepoli coglievan spighe e, stropicciandole con le mani, ne mangiavano.	1 It happened that one Sabbath he was walking through the cornfields, and his disciples were pickingears of corn, rubbing them in their hands and eating them.
2 Allora alcuni Farisei chiesero: «Perchè fate quello che non è lecito fare in giorno di sabato?».	2 Some of the Pharisees said, 'Why are you doing something that is forbidden on the Sabbath day?'
3 Gesù rispose loro: «Non avete dunque mai letto neppure quello che fece David, quand'egli e quei che l'accompagnavano ebbero fame?	3 Jesus answered them, 'So you have not read what David did when he and his fol owers were hungry-
4 Come egli entrò nella casa di Dio e prese i pani della Proposizione e ne mangiò e ne diede anche a coloro ch'erano con lui, mentre ai soli sacerdoti è lecito mangiarne?».	4 how he went into the house of God and took the loaves of the offering and ate them and gave them tohis fol owers, loaves which the priests alone are al owed to eat?'
5 E soggiungeva loro: «Il Figliuol dell'uomo è padrone anche del sabato».	5 And he said to them, 'The Son of man is master of the Sabbath.'
6 Un altro sabato entrò nella sinagoga e si mise a insegnare. Vi si trovava un uomo che aveva la mano destra inaridita.	6 Now on another Sabbath he went into the synagogue and began to teach, and a man was present, andhis right hand was withered.
7 Gli Scribi e i Farisei gli tenevan gli occhi addosso per vedere se egli facesse delle guarigioni in giorno di sabato, e così avere un pretesto per accusarlo.	7 The scribes and the Pharisees were watching him to see if he would cure somebody on the Sabbath,hoping to find something to charge him with.
8 Ma egli, che conosceva i loro pensieri disse all'uomo dalla mano secca: «Alzati su e vieni qua in mezzo!». E colui, alzatosi, si tenne ritto.	8 But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man with the withered hand, 'Get up and stand out in themiddle!' And he came forward and stood there.
9 Gesù disse loro: «Io vi domando: - In giorno di sabato è lecito far del bene o del male, salvar la vita a una persona o ucciderla? -».	9 Then Jesus said to them, 'I put it to you: is it permitted on the Sabbath to do good, or to do evil; to savelife, or to destroy it?'
10 Data un'occhiata in giro su tutti loro, disse all'uomo: «Stendi la mano». Quegli la stese e la sua mano divenne sana.	10 Then he looked round at them al and said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He did so, and his handwas restored.
11 Ma essi, ripieni di pazzia, complottavano tra loro su ciò che potessero fare a Gesù.	11 But they were furious and began to discuss the best way of dealing with Jesus.
12 In quei giorni andò sul monte a pregare, e vi passò la notte pregando Iddio.	12 Now it happened in those days that he went onto the mountain to pray; and he spent the whole night inprayer to God.
13 All'alba, chiamò i suoi discepoli e ne scelse dodici, ai quali diede anche il nome di apostoli, cioè:	13 When day came he summoned his disciples and picked out twelve of them; he cal ed them 'apostles':
14 Simone, a cui mise anche nome Pietro, e Andrea fratello di lui, Giacomo e Giovanni, Filippo e Bartolomeo,	14 Simon whom he called Peter, and his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew,
15 Matteo e Tommaso, Giacomo figlio d'Alfeo e Simone detto Zelote,	15 Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon cal ed the Zealot,
16 Giuda fratello di Giacomo e Giuda Iscariote, che fu poi traditore.	16 Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot who became a traitor.
17 E sceso con loro, si fermò in una pianura, con gran folla de' suoi discepoli e gran quantità di popolo,	17 He then came down with them and stopped at a piece of level ground where there was a largegathering of his disciples, with a great crowd of people from al parts of Judaea and Jerusalem and the coastalregion of Tyre and Sidon
18 i quali erano venuti da tutta la Giudea e da Gerusalemme e dal litorale di Tiro e Sidone, per ascoltarlo ed esser guariti dalle loro infermità. E quelli ch'eran tormentati da spiriti immondi, ne erano guariti.	18 who had come to hear him and to be cured of their diseases. People tormented by unclean spirits werealso cured,
19 E tutto il popolo cercava di toccarlo, perchè usciva da lui una forza che guariva tutti.	19 and everyone in the crowd was trying to touch him because power came out of him that cured them al .
20 Allora alzati gli occhi verso i suoi discepoli, egli disse: «Beati voi, o poveri, perchè il regno di Dio è vostro!	20 Then fixing his eyes on his disciples he said: How blessed are you who are poor: the kingdom of Godis yours.
21 Beati voi che ora avete fame, perchè sarete saziati! Beati voi che ora piangete, perchè riderete!	21 Blessed are you who are hungry now: you shal have your fil . Blessed are you who are weeping now:you shall laugh.
22 Sarete beati, quando gli uomini vi odieranno e vi bandiranno dalla loro compagnia, e vi caricheranno di obbrobrio e ripudieranno come abominevole il vostro nome, per causa del Figliuol dell'uomo.	22 'Blessed are you when people hate you, drive you out, abuse you, denounce your name as criminal,on account of the Son of man.
23 Rallegratevi in quel giorno e tripudiate, perchè il vostro premio sarà grande nei cieli; così facevano i padri loro ai profeti.	23 Rejoice when that day comes and dance for joy, look!-your reward wil be great in heaven. This wasthe way their ancestors treated the prophets.
24 Ma guai a voi, o ricchi, perchè avete già la vostra consolazione!	24 But alas for you who are rich: you are having your consolation now.
25 Guai a voi, che siete satolli, perchè patirete la fame! A voi, che ora ridete, perchè piangerete e gemerete!	25 Alas for you who have plenty to eat now: you shal go hungry. Alas for you who are laughing now: youshall mourn and weep.
26 Guai a voi quando tutti gli uomini diranno bene di voi, perchè i padri di costoro facevano così coi falsi profeti.	26 'Alas for you when everyone speaks wel of you! This was the way their ancestors treated the falseprophets.
27 Ma a voi, che ascoltate, io dico: - Amate i vostri nemici; fate del bene a coloro che vi odiano.	27 'But I say this to you who are listening: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
28 Benedite coloro che vi maledicono e pregate per i vostri calunniatori.	28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who treat you badly.
29 Se uno ti percuote su una guancia, e tu porgigli anche l'altra; e se uno ti toglie il mantello, e tu non impedirgli di prenderti anche la tunica.	29 To anyone who slaps you on one cheek, present the other cheek as well; to anyone who takes yourcloak from you, do not refuse your tunic.
30 Dà a chiunque ti chiede, e se qualcuno ti toglie il tuo, non ridomandarglielo.	30 Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from someone who takes it.
31 Ciò che voi volete che gli uomini facciano a voi, fatelo voi pure a loro.	31 Treat others as you would like people to treat you.
32 Se voi amate coloro che vi amano, qual merito ne avete? Anche i peccatori amano coloro che li amano.	32 If you love those who love you, what credit can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them.
33 E se fate del bene a coloro che lo fanno a voi, qual merito ne avete? I peccatori fanno altrettanto.	33 And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit can you expect? For even sinners do thatmuch.
34 E se prestate denaro a coloro, dai quali sperate di ricavarne, qual merito ne avete? Anche i peccatori prestano ai peccatori, per ricevere altrettanto.	34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to get money back, what credit can you expect? Evensinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount.
35 Ma voi amate i vostri nemici; fate del bene e date in prestito senza speranza di ricambio; e grande sarà la vostra ricompensa e voi sarete i figli dell'Altissimo, ch'è buono pure verso gl'ingrati, e i cattivi.	35 Instead, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend without any hope of return. You wil have agreat reward, and you wil be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
36 Siate dunque misericordiosi, com'è misericordioso il Padre vostro.	36 'Be compassionate just as your Father is compassionate.
37 Non giudicate e non sarete giudicati; non condannate e non sarete condannati; perdonate e vi sarà perdonato.	37 Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you wil not be condemned; forgive,and you wil be forgiven.
38 Date e vi sarà dato; vi sarà versata in grembo una misura buona, pigiata, scossa e straboccante, perchè con la medesima misura con la quale misurate, sarà rimisurato a voi -».	38 Give, and there wil be gifts for you: a ful measure, pressed down, shaken together, and overflowing,wil be poured into your lap; because the standard you use will be the standard used for you.'
39 Poi disse loro questa parabola: «Può mai un cieco guidare un altro cieco? Non cascheranno tutt'e due nel fosso?	39 He also told them a parable, 'Can one blind person guide another? Surely both wil fal into a pit?
40 Il discepolo non è da più del maestro ma ogni discepolo sarà perfetto quando sia come il suo maestro.	40 Disciple is not superior to teacher; but ful y trained disciple wil be like teacher.
41 Perchè poi guardi la pagliuzza che è nell'occhio di tuo fratello e non badi alla trave che hai nel tuo?	41 Why do you observe the splinter in your brother's eye and never notice the great log in your own?
42 Come puoi dire a tuo fratello: - Lascia, fratello, ch'io ti cavi la pagliuzza che hai nell'occhio -; mentre tu stesso non vedi la trave che sta nell'occhio tuo? Ipocrita, leva prima la trave dal tuo occhio, e allora ci vedrai bene per cavare la pagliuzza, che è nell'occhio di tuo fratello.	42 How can you say to your brother, "Brother, let me take out that splinter in your eye," when you cannotsee the great log in your own? Hypocrite! Take the log out of your own eye first, and then you wil see clearlyenough to take out the splinter in your brother's eye.
43 Non è infatti albero buono quello che dà frutti cattivi, nè vi è albero cattivo che dia frutti buoni;	43 'There is no sound tree that produces rotten fruit, nor again a rotten tree that produces sound fruit.
44 ciascun albero si conosce perciò dal suo frutto e così non si raccolgono fichi dalle spine, nè si vendemmia uva dal pruno.	44 Every tree can be told by its own fruit: people do not pick figs from thorns, nor gather grapes frombrambles.
45 L'uomo buono cava fuori il bene dal buon tesoro del suo cuore e il cattivo cava fuori il male dal suo cattivo tesoro poichè la bocca parla dall'abbondanza del cuore.	45 Good people draw what is good from the store of goodness in their hearts; bad people draw what isbad from the store of badness. For the words of the mouth flow out of what fil s the heart.
46 Perchè mi chiamate: - Signore, Signore, - mentre non fate ciò che vi dico?	46 'Why do you call me, "Lord, Lord" and not do what I say?
47 Chiunque viene a me e ascolta le mie parole e le mette in pratica, io vi mostrerò a chi somiglia.	47 'Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and acts on them -- I wil show you what such aperson is like.
48 Somiglia a un uomo, il quale, fabbricando una casa, ha scavato molto profondo e ha gettato le fondamenta sulla roccia. Venuta l'inondazione, il torrente ha urtato contro la casa, ma non l'ha potuta scrollare, perchè era piantata sulla roccia.	48 Such a person is like the man who, when he built a house, dug, and dug deep, and laid thefoundations on rock; when the river was in flood it bore down on that house but could not shake it, it was so welbuilt.
49 Invece chi ascolta la mia parola e non la mette in pratica, somiglia a un uomo, che ha fabbricato la sua casa sul suolo senza fondamenta; è venuto il torrente a urtare contro di essa, e subito è crollata; e grande fu la rovina di quella casa».	49 But someone who listens and does nothing is like the man who built a house on soil, with nofoundations; as soon as the river bore down on it, it col apsed; and what a ruin that house became!'
