| 1 - In quel momento i discepoli si avvicinarono a Gesù dicendogli: «Chi è il più grande nel regno de' cieli?». | 1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" |
| 2 E Gesù, chiamato un fanciullino lo pose in mezzo a loro, | 2 And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them, |
| 3 e disse: «In verità vi dico: se voi non vi cambierete e non diventerete come i pargoli non entrerete nel regno de' cieli. | 3 and said, "Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. |
| 4 Chi dunque si farà piccolo come questo fanciullo, sarà il più grande nel regno de' cieli. | 4 Whoever humbles himself like this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. |
| 5 E chi riceve un fanciullo come questo in nome mio, riceve me. | 5 "Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; |
| 6 Ma chi avrà scandalizzato uno di questi piccini che credono in me, sarebbe meglio per lui che gli fosse appesa al collo una macina da mulino e fosse sommerso nel profondo del mare. | 6 but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. |
| 7 Guai al mondo per causa degli scandali! È necessario infatti che avvengano scandali, guai però all'uomo per causa del quale avvien lo scandalo! | 7 "Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the man by whom the temptation comes! |
| 8 Ora se la tua mano o il tuo piede è per te occasione di scandalo, taglialo via e gettalo lontano da te; è meglio per te entrare nella vita monco o zoppo che essere gettato nel fuoco eterno, con due mani o due piedi. | 8 And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. |
| 9 E se il tuo occhio è per te occasione di scandalo, cavalo e gettalo via da te; è meglio per te entrare nella vita con un occhio solo, che essere gettato nella Geenna del fuoco con due occhi. | 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire. |
| 10 Guardatevi dal disprezzare alcuno di questi piccoli, poichè vi dico che i loro angeli, nei cieli, vedono continuamente il volto del Padre mio, che è nei cieli. | 10 "See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven. |
| 11 Infatti il Figliuol dell'uomo è venuto a salvare ciò che era perduto. | 11 . |
| 12 Che ve ne pare? Se un uomo ha cento pecore e una di esse si smarrisce, non lascia egli sul monte le novantanove per andare in cerca di quella che si era smarrita? | 12 What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? |
| 13 E se ha il bene di trovarla, in verità vi dico ch'egli si rallegra maggiormente per questa che non per le novantanove che non s'eran smarrite. | 13 And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. |
| 14 Così è volere del Padre vostro che è nei cieli che neppur uno di questi piccoli perisca. | 14 So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish. |
| 15 Se il tuo fratello ha peccato contro te, va' e riprendilo fra te e lui solo. Se ti ascolta, hai guadagnato tuo fratello; | 15 "If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. |
| 16 se invece non ti ascolta, prendi con te una o due persone, affinchè ogni cosa sia attestata per bocca di due o tre testimoni. | 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. |
| 17 Se neppur d'essi fa caso, dillo alla Chiesa; e se non ascolta nemmeno la Chiesa, abbilo in conto di un pagano e di un pubblicano. | 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. |
| 18 In verità vi dico che tutto ciò che voi legherete sulla terra, sarà legato in cielo e tutto ciò che voi scioglierete sulla terra sarà sciolto in cielo. | 18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. |
| 19 Vi dico ancora che se due di voi si mettono insieme sulla terra a domandare qualsiasi cosa, essa sarà loro concessa dal Padre mio che è nei cieli. | 19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. |
| 20 Perchè dovunque due o tre persone sono riunite nel mio nome, io sono in mezzo a loro». | 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them." |
| 21 Allora Pietro, avvicinatosi, gli domandò: «Signore, se mio fratello pecca contro di me, quante volte gli perdonerò? Fino a sette volte?». | 21 Then Peter came up and said to him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?" |
| 22 Gli rispose Gesù: «Non ti dico fino a sette volte, ma fino a settanta volte sette. | 22 Jesus said to him, "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven. |
| 23 Per questo il regno de' cieli è simile a un re, il quale volle regolare i conti co' suoi servitori. | 23 "Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. |
| 24 Avendo pertanto cominciato a far ciò, gli menarono innanzi un tale che gli doveva diecimila talenti. | 24 When he began the reckoning, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents; |
| 25 Siccome egli non aveva di che pagare, il padrone comandò che si vendesse lui, la moglie, i figli e tutto quanto aveva per saldare il debito. | 25 and as he could not pay, his lord ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. |
| 26 Ma il servo, gettandosi ai suoi piedi, lo scongiurava dicendo: - Abbi pazienza con me e ti pagherò tutto.- | 26 So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, 'Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.' |
| 27 Mosso a compassione il padrone di quel servo, lo lasciò andare e gli condonò il debito. | 27 And out of pity for him the lord of that servant released him and forgave him the debt. |
| 28 Quel servo, appena uscito, si imbattè in uno dei suoi compagni che gli doveva cento danari e, presolo pel collo, lo strangolava, dicendo: - Paga ciò che tu mi devi.- | 28 But that same servant, as he went out, came upon one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii; and seizing him by the throat he said, 'Pay what you owe.' |
| 29 Il compagno, gettandosi ai suoi piedi, lo scongiurava dicendo: - Abbi pazienza con me e ti pagherò tutto.- | 29 So his fellow servant fell down and besought him, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay you.' |
| 30 Ma colui non volle, anzi andò e lo cacciò in prigione, finchè avesse pagato il debito. | 30 He refused and went and put him in prison till he should pay the debt. |
| 31 Ora i suoi compagni, vista la cosa, ne furon grandemente contristati e riferiron l'accaduto al loro padrone. | 31 When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their lord all that had taken place. |
| 32 Allora il padrone lo fece chiamare a sè e gli disse: - Servo malvagio; io t'avevo condonato tutto quel debito, perchè tu me ne avevi supplicato; | 32 Then his lord summoned him and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me; |
| 33 e non dovevi anche tu aver pietà del tuo compagno, come ne ho avuta io per te?- | 33 and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?' |
| 34 E sdegnato, lo diede in mano ai manigoldi fin tanto che non avesse pagato tutto il suo debito. | 34 And in anger his lord delivered him to the jailers, till he should pay all his debt. |
| 35 Così farà con voi il Padre mio celeste, se ognun di voi non perdonerà di cuore al proprio fratello». | 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart." |
