1 - Abia regnò sopra Giuda, nel decimo ottavo anno di Geroboamo figlio di Nabat.	1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah
2 Regnò tre anni in Gerusalemme: sua madre aveva nome Maaca ed era figlia di Abessalom.	2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.
3 Egli si abbandonò a tutti i peccati, che suo padre aveva commessi prima di lui. Nè il suo cuore fu tutto per il Signore Iddio suo, come lo era stato il cuore di Davide suo padre.	3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.
4 Tuttavia per amor di Davide, il Signore suo Dio gli diede una lucerna in Gerusalemme, suscitandogli un figlio dopo di lui e lasciando sussistere Gerusalemme,	4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;
5 perchè Davide aveva fatto ciò che è giusto agli occhi del Signore e non si era scostato da tutto ciò che aveva a lui comandato durante tutta la sua vita, eccetto il fatto di Uria l'Eteo.	5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).

Abijam and Jeroboam made war on each other.
8 Abia dormì coi padri suoi e venne sepolto nella città di Davide; e Asa suo figlio regnò in vece sua.	8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.
9 Asa, re di Giuda, regnò nell'anno ventesimo di Geroboamo, re d'Israele	9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah
10 e regnò in Gerusalemme quarantun anno. Il nome di sua madre era Maaca figlia di Abessalom.	10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.
11 Asa si diportò bene dinanzi al Signore, come Davide suo padre	11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.
12 e scacciò dal paese gli effeminati e lo purgò di tutte le sozzure degli idoli fabbricati dai padri suoi.	12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.
13 Di più rimosse Maaca sua madre, perchè non fosse direttrice nei santuari di Priapo e nel suo boschetto che essa aveva consacrato. Ne distrusse anche la grotta e spezzò il turpissimo simulacro e lo bruciò nel torrente del Cedron,	13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.
14 ma non tolse gli alti luoghi; tuttavia il cuore di Asa fu tutto per il Signore durante tutta la sua vita	14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.
15 e mise nella casa del Signore tutto ciò che aveva consacrato il padre suo e che egli aveva offerto in voto, argento, oro e vasi.	15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.
16 Tra Asa e Baasa, re d'Israele, vi fu guerra durante tutta la loro vita.	16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.
17 Baasa, re d'Israele, salì in Giuda ed edificò Rama per impedire a quelli di Asa, re di Giuda, di entrare o di uscire.	17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.

Perciò ti mando in regalo argento, oro, e ti prego di venire e di rompere l'alleanza tua con Baasa, re d'Israele, affinchè egli si allontani da me».	19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'
20 Benadad diede ascolto al re Asa e mandò i capi del suo esercito contro le città d'Israele e abbatterono Aion, Dan, Abeldomum, Maaca e tutta la terra di Cennerot, vale a dire tutto il territorio di Neftali.	20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.
21 Avendo ciò udito, Baasa cessò di edificare Rama e ritornò a Tersa.	21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.
22 Il re Asa poi mandò nunzi per tutto Giuda, dicendo: «Nessuno manchi», e portaron via le pietre di Rama e il legname di cui Baasa si era servito e con essi il re Asa costruì Gabaa di Beniamino e Masfa.	22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.

In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.

25 Nadab poi figlio di Geroboamo regnò sopra Israele l'anno secondo di Asa, re di Giuda, e regnò due anni sopra Israele.	25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.

30 a cagione dei peccati che Geroboamo aveva commessi e fatti commettere da Israele e a causa del delitto di aver irritato il Signore Dio d'Israele.	30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.
