BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Sarai dunque, la moglie di Abramo, non partoriva figli; avendo essa una schiava egiziana, di nome Agar,	1 Abram's wife Sarai had borne him no child, but she had an Egyptian slave-girl cal ed Hagar.
2 disse al marito: «Vedi, il Signore m'ha reso sterile; prendi la mia schiava, [per vedere] se almeno da lei io possa avere figli». Avendo egli acconsentito alla sua dimanda,	2 So Sarai said to Abram, 'Listen, now! Since Yahweh has kept me from having children, go to myslave-girl. Perhaps I shal get children through her.' And Abram took Sarai's advice.
3 Sarai prese Agar egiziana sua schiava, dieci anni dopo che s'erano fermati nella terra di Canaan, e la dette in moglie al suo marito.	3 Thus, after Abram had lived in the land of Canaan for ten years, Sarai took Hagar her Egyptian slave-girl and gave her to Abram as his wife.
4 Il quale fu con essa, e questa, vedendo d'aver concepito, cominciò a disprezzar la padrona.	4 He went to Hagar and she conceived. And once she knew she had conceived, her mistress countedfor nothing in her eyes.
5 Sarai pertanto disse ad Abramo: «Tu ti conduci con me ingiustamente; io t'ho dato la schiava mia come moglie, ed essa, vedendo di aver concepito, mi disprezza. Giudichi il Signore fra me e te».	5 Then Sarai said to Abram, 'This outrage done to me is your fault! It was I who put my slave-girl intoyour arms but, now she knows that she has conceived, I count for nothing in her eyes. Yahweh judge betweenme and you!'
6 Rispose Abramo: «La tua schiava è nelle tue mani; fanne quel che ti piace». Siccome dunque Sarai la faceva soffrire, Agar prese la fuga.	6 'Very wel ,' Abram said to Sarai, 'your slave-girl is at your disposal. Treat her as you think fit.' Saraiaccordingly treated her so badly that she ran away from her.
7 L'angelo del Signore, avendola trovata presso la fonte d'acqua del deserto, sulla via del deserto di Sur,	7 The angel of Yahweh found her by a spring in the desert, the spring on the road to Shur.
8 le disse: «Agar, serva di Sarai, donde vieni e dove vai?». La quale, rispose «Fuggo dal cospetto di Sarai mia padrona».	8 He said, 'Hagar, slave-girl of Sarai, where have you come from, and where are you going?' 'I amrunning away from my mistress Sarai,' she replied.
9 E l'angelo del Signore le disse: «Torna alla tua padrona, ed umiliati sotto la mano di lei».	9 The angel of Yahweh said to her, 'Go back to your mistress and submit to her.'
10 Di poi: «Moltiplicherò soprammodo la tua discendenza, e non si potrà farne il computo, per il gran numero».	10 The angel of Yahweh further said to her, 'I shal make your descendants too numerous to becounted.'
11 Ed ancora: «Vedi, hai concepito, e partorirai un figlio; e lo chiamerai Israele, per ciò che Dio t'ha esaudito nella tua afflizione.	11 Then the angel of Yahweh said to her: Now, you have conceived and will bear a son, and you shalname him Ishmael, for Yahweh has heard your cries of distress.
12 Sarà uomo fiero; le mani di lui contro tutti, e le mani di tutti contro di lui; e pianterà le sue tende dirimpetto a tutti i suoi fratelli».	12 A wild donkey of a man he wil be, his hand against every man, and every man's hand against him,living his life in defiance of al his kinsmen.
13 Ed Agar chiamò il Signore che le aveva parlato, col nome: «Tu Dio che m'hai veduto». Disse ella infatti: «Per certo io ho intraveduto colui che vede me».	13 Hagar gave a name to Yahweh who had spoken to her, 'You are El Roi,' by which she meant, 'Did Inot go on seeing here, after him who sees me?'
14 Perciò chiamò quel pozzo: " Il pozzo del vivente che m'ha veduto ". E trovasi fra Cades e Barad.	14 This is why the well is cal ed the wel of Lahai Roi; it is between Kadesh and Bered.
15 Agar partorì dunque un figlio ad Abramo, e questi gli mise nome Ismaele.	15 Hagar bore Abram a son, and Abram gave his son borne by Hagar the name Ishmael.
16 Era Abramo d'ottantasei anni, quando Agar gli partorì Ismaele.	16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore him Ishmael.
