LXXNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
ελεησον ημας δεσποτα ο θεος παντων και επιβλεψον και επιβαλε τον φοβον σου επι παντα τα εθνη1 Come to our aid, O God of the universe, and put all the nations in dread of you!
επαρον την χειρα σου επι εθνη αλλοτρια και ιδετωσαν την δυναστειαν σου2 Raise your hand against the heathen, that they may realize your power.
ωσπερ ενωπιον αυτων ηγιασθης εν ημιν ουτως ενωπιον ημων μεγαλυνθειης εν αυτοις3 As you have used us to show them your holiness, so now use them to show us your glory.
και επιγνωτωσαν σε καθαπερ και ημεις επεγνωμεν οτι ουκ εστιν θεος πλην σου κυριε4 Thus they will know, as we know, that there is no God but you.
εγκαινισον σημεια και αλλοιωσον θαυμασια δοξασον χειρα και βραχιονα δεξιον5 Give new signs and work new wonders; show forth the splendor of your right hand and arm;
εγειρον θυμον και εκχεον οργην εξαρον αντιδικον και εκτριψον εχθρον6 Rouse your anger, pour out wrath, humble the enemy, scatter the foe.
σπευσον καιρον και μνησθητι ορκισμου και εκδιηγησασθωσαν τα μεγαλεια σου7 Hasten the day, bring on the time;
εν οργη πυρος καταβρωθητω ο σωζομενος και οι κακουντες τον λαον σου ευροισαν απωλειαν8 Let raging fire consume the fugitive, and your people's oppressors meet destruction.
συντριψον κεφαλας αρχοντων εχθρων λεγοντων ουκ εστιν πλην ημων9 crush the heads of the hostile rulers.
συναγαγε πασας φυλας ιακωβ και κατακληρονομησον αυτους καθως απ' αρχης10 Gather all the tribes of Jacob, that they may inherit the land as of old,
ελεησον λαον κυριε κεκλημενον επ' ονοματι σου και ισραηλ ον πρωτογονω ωμοιωσας11 Show mercy to the people called by your name; Israel, whom you named your first-born.
οικτιρησον πολιν αγιασματος σου ιερουσαλημ τοπον καταπαυματος σου12 Take pity on your holy city, Jerusalem, your dwelling place.
πλησον σιων αρεταλογιας σου και απο της δοξης σου τον λαον σου13 Fill Zion with your majesty, your temple with your glory.
δος μαρτυριον τοις εν αρχη κτισμασιν σου και εγειρον προφητειας τας επ' ονοματι σου14 Give evidence of your deeds of old; fulfill the prophecies spoken in your name,
δος μισθον τοις υπομενουσιν σε και οι προφηται σου εμπιστευθητωσαν15 Reward those who have hoped in you, and let your prophets be proved true.
εισακουσον κυριε δεησεως των ικετων σου κατα την ευλογιαν ααρων περι του λαου σου16 Hear the prayer of your servants, for you are ever gracious to your people;
και γνωσονται παντες οι επι της γης οτι κυριος ει ο θεος των αιωνων17 Thus it will be known to the very ends of the earth that you are the eternal God.
παν βρωμα φαγεται κοιλια εστιν δε βρωμα βρωματος καλλιον18 The throat can swallow any food, yet some foods are more agreeable than others;
φαρυγξ γευεται βρωματα θηρας ουτως καρδια συνετη λογους ψευδεις19 As the palate tests meat by its savor, so does a keen mind insincere words.
καρδια στρεβλη δωσει λυπην και ανθρωπος πολυπειρος ανταποδωσει αυτω20 A deceitful character causes grief, but an experienced man can turn the tables on him.
παντα αρρενα επιδεξεται γυνη εστιν δε θυγατηρ θυγατρος κρεισσων21 Though any man may be accepted as a husband, yet one girl will be more suitable than another:
καλλος γυναικος ιλαρυνει προσωπον και υπερ πασαν επιθυμιαν ανθρωπου υπεραγει22 A woman's beauty makes her husband's face light up, for it surpasses all else that charms the eye;
ει εστιν επι γλωσσης αυτης ελεος και πραυτης ουκ εστιν ο ανηρ αυτης καθ' υιους ανθρωπων23 And if, besides, her speech is kindly, his lot is beyond that of mortal men.
ο κτωμενος γυναικα εναρχεται κτησεως βοηθον κατ' αυτον και στυλον αναπαυσεως24 A wife is her husband's richest treasure, a helpmate, a steadying column.
ου ουκ εστιν φραγμος διαρπαγησεται κτημα και ου ουκ εστιν γυνη στεναξει πλανωμενος25 A vineyard with no hedge will be overrun; a man with no wife becomes a homeless wanderer.
τις γαρ πιστευσει ευζωνω ληστη αφαλλομενω εκ πολεως εις πολιν26 Who will trust an armed band that shifts from city to city?
ουτως ανθρωπω μη εχοντι νοσσιαν και καταλυοντι ου εαν οψιση27 Or a man who has no nest, but lodges where night overtakes him?
