Seconda lettera ai Corinzi 2

1 Ritenni pertanto opportuno non venire di nuovo fra voi con tristezza.	1 I made up my mind, then, that my next visit to you would not be a painful one,
2 Perché se io rattristo voi, chi mi rallegrerà se non colui che è stato da me rattristato?	2 for if I cause you distress I am causing distress to my only possible source of joy.
3 Ho scritto proprio queste cose per non dovere poi essere rattristato, alla mia venuta, da quelli che dovrebbero rendermi lieto; sono persuaso, riguardo a voi tutti, che la mia gioia è quella di tutti voi.	3 Indeed, I wrote as I did precisely to spare myself distress when I visited you, from the very people whoshould have given me joy, in the conviction that for al of you my joy was yours too.
4 Vi ho scritto in un momento di grande afflizione e col cuore angosciato, tra molte lacrime, non perché vi rattristiate, ma perché conosciate l’amore che nutro particolarmente verso di voi.	4 I wrote to you in agony of mind, not meaning to cause you distress but to show you how very much loveI have for you.
5 Se qualcuno mi ha rattristato, non ha rattristato me soltanto, ma, in parte almeno, senza esagerare, tutti voi.	5 If anyone did cause distress, he caused it not to me, but -- not to exaggerate -- in some degree to al ofyou.
6 Per quel tale però è già sufficiente il castigo che gli è venuto dalla maggior parte di voi,	6 The punishment already imposed by the majority was quite enough for such a person;
7 cosicché voi dovreste piuttosto usargli benevolenza e confortarlo, perché egli non soccomba sotto un dolore troppo forte.	7 and now by contrast you should forgive and encourage him all the more, or he may be overwhelmed bythe extent of his distress.
8 Vi esorto quindi a far prevalere nei suoi riguardi la carità;	8 That is why I urge you to give your love towards him definite expression.
9 e anche per questo vi ho scritto, per mettere alla prova il vostro comportamento, se siete obbedienti in tutto.	9 This was in fact my reason for writing, to test your quality and whether you are completely obedient.
10 A chi voi perdonate, perdono anch’io; perché ciò che io ho perdonato, se pure ebbi qualcosa da perdonare, l’ho fatto per voi, davanti a Cristo,	10 But if you forgive anybody, then I too forgive that person; and whatever I have forgiven, if there isanything I have forgiven, I have done it for your sake in Christ's presence,
11 per non cadere sotto il potere di Satana, di cui non ignoriamo le intenzioni.	11 to avoid being outwitted by Satan, whose scheming we know only too well.
12 Giunto a Tròade per annunciare il vangelo di Cristo, sebbene nel Signore mi fossero aperte le porte,	12 When I came to Troas for the sake of the gospel of Christ and a door was opened for me there in theLord,
13 non ebbi pace nel mio spirito perché non vi trovai Tito, mio fratello; perciò, congedatomi da loro, partii per la Macedonia.	13 I had no relief from anxiety, not finding my brother Titus there, and I said goodbye to them and wenton to Macedonia.
14 Siano rese grazie a Dio, il quale sempre ci fa partecipare al suo trionfo in Cristo e diffonde ovunque per mezzo nostro il profumo della sua conoscenza!	14 But, thanks be to God who always gives us in Christ a part in his triumphal procession, and through usis spreading everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of himself.
15 Noi siamo infatti dinanzi a Dio il profumo di Cristo per quelli che si salvano e per quelli che si perdono;	15 To God we are the fragrance of Christ, both among those who are being saved and among those whoare on the way to destruction;
16 per gli uni odore di morte per la morte e per gli altri odore di vita per la vita. E chi è mai all’altezza di questi compiti?	16 for these last, the smel of death leading to death, but for the first, the smel of life leading to life. Whois equal to such a task?
17 Noi non siamo infatti come quei molti che fanno mercato della parola di Dio, ma con sincerità e come mossi da Dio, sotto il suo sguardo, noi parliamo in Cristo.	17 At least we do not adulterate the word of God, as so many do, but it is in al purity, as envoys of Godand in God's presence, that we speak in Christ.
