Prima lettera ai Corinzi 14

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Aspirate alla carità. Desiderate intensamente i doni dello Spirito, soprattutto la profezia.	1 Make love your aim; but be eager, too, for spiritual gifts, and especial y for prophesying.
2 Chi infatti parla con il dono delle lingue non parla agli uomini ma a Dio poiché, mentre dice per ispirazione cose misteriose, nessuno comprende.	2 Those who speak in a tongue speak to God, but not to other people, because nobody understandsthem; they are speaking in the Spirit and the meaning is hidden.
3 Chi profetizza, invece, parla agli uomini per loro edificazione, esortazione e conforto.	3 On the other hand, someone who prophesies speaks to other people, building them up and givingthem encouragement and reassurance.
4 Chi parla con il dono delle lingue edifica se stesso, chi profetizza edifica l’assemblea.	4 Those who speak in a tongue may build themselves up, but those who prophesy build up thecommunity.
5 Vorrei vedervi tutti parlare con il dono delle lingue, ma preferisco che abbiate il dono della profezia. In realtà colui che profetizza è più grande di colui che parla con il dono delle lingue, a meno che le interpreti, perché l’assemblea ne riceva edificazione.	5 While I should like you all to speak in tongues, I would much rather you could prophesy; since thosewho prophesy are of greater importance than those who speak in tongues, unless they can interpret what theysay so that the church is built up by it.
6 E ora, fratelli, supponiamo che io venga da voi parlando con il dono delle lingue. In che cosa potrei esservi utile, se non vi comunicassi una rivelazione o una conoscenza o una profezia o un insegnamento?	6 Now suppose, brothers, I come to you and speak in tongues, what good shal I do you if my speakingprovides no revelation or knowledge or prophecy or instruction?
7 Ad esempio: se gli oggetti inanimati che emettono un suono, come il flauto o la cetra, non producono i suoni distintamente, in che modo si potrà distinguere ciò che si suona col flauto da ciò che si suona con la cetra?	7 It is the same with an inanimate musical instrument. If it does not make any distinction between notes,how can one recognise what is being played on flute or lyre?
8 E se la tromba emette un suono confuso, chi si preparerà alla battaglia?	8 If the trumpet sounds a cal which is unrecognisable, who is going to get ready for the attack?
9 Così anche voi, se non pronunciate parole chiare con la lingua, come si potrà comprendere ciò che andate dicendo? Parlereste al vento!	9 It is the same with you: if you do not use your tongue to produce speech that can be readilyunderstood, how can anyone know what you are saying? You will be talking to the air.
10 Chissà quante varietà di lingue vi sono nel mondo e nulla è senza un proprio linguaggio.	10 However many the languages used in the world, al of them use sound;
11 Ma se non ne conosco il senso, per colui che mi parla sono uno straniero, e chi mi parla è uno straniero per me.	11 but if I do not understand the meaning of the sound, I am a barbarian to the person who is speaking,and the speaker is a barbarian to me.
12 Così anche voi, poiché desiderate i doni dello Spirito, cercate di averne in abbondanza, per l’edificazione della comunità.	12 So with you, as you are eager to have spiritual powers, aim to be rich in those which build up thecommunity.
13 Perciò chi parla con il dono delle lingue, preghi di saperle interpretare.	13 That is why anybody who speaks in a tongue must pray that he may be given the interpretation.
14 Quando infatti prego con il dono delle lingue, il mio spirito prega, ma la mia intelligenza rimane senza frutto.	14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit may be praying but my mind derives no fruit from it.
15 Che fare dunque? Pregherò con lo spirito, ma pregherò anche con l’intelligenza; canterò con lo spirito, ma canterò anche con l’intelligenza.	15 What then? I shal pray with the spirit, but I shall pray with the mind as wel : I shall sing praises withthe spirit and I shal sing praises with the mind as well.
16 Altrimenti, se tu dai lode a Dio soltanto con lo spirito, in che modo colui che sta fra i non iniziati potrebbe dire l’Amen al tuo ringraziamento, dal momento che non capisce quello che dici?	16 Otherwise, if you say your blessing only with the spirit, how is the uninitiated person going to answer'Amen' to your thanksgiving, without understanding what you are saying?
17 Tu, certo, fai un bel ringraziamento, ma l’altro non viene edificato.	17 You may be making your thanksgiving wel , but the other person is not built up at al .
18 Grazie a Dio, io parlo con il dono delle lingue più di tutti voi;	18 I thank God that I speak with tongues more than any of you;
19 ma in assemblea preferisco dire cinque parole con la mia intelligenza per istruire anche gli altri, piuttosto che diecimila parole con il dono delle lingue.	19 al the same, when I am in the assembly I would rather say five words with my mind, to instructothers as wel , than ten thousand words in a tongue.
20 Fratelli, non comportatevi da bambini nei giudizi. Quanto a malizia, siate bambini, ma quanto a giudizi, comportatevi da uomini maturi.	20 Brothers, do not remain children in your thinking; infants in wickedness-agreed, but in your thinkinggrown-ups.
21 Sta scritto nella Legge: In altre lingue e con labbra di stranieri parlerò a questo popolo, ma neanche così mi ascolteranno, dice il Signore.	21 It says in the written Law: In strange tongues and in a foreign language I wil talk to this nation, andeven so they will refuse to listen, says the Lord.
22 Quindi le lingue non sono un segno per quelli che credono, ma per quelli che non credono, mentre la profezia non è per quelli che non credono, ma per quelli che credono.	22 So then, strange languages are significant not for believers, but for unbelievers; whereas on theother hand, prophesying is not for unbelievers, but for believers.
23 Quando si raduna tutta la comunità nello stesso luogo, se tutti parlano con il dono delle lingue e sopraggiunge qualche non iniziato o non credente, non dirà forse che siete pazzi?	23 Suppose that, if the whole congregation were meeting and al of them speaking in tongues, andsome uninitiated people or unbelievers were to come in, don't you think they would say that you were all raving?
24 Se invece tutti profetizzano e sopraggiunge qualche non credente o non iniziato, verrà da tutti convinto del suo errore e da tutti giudicato,	24 But if you were al prophesying when an unbeliever or someone uninitiated came in, he would findhimself put to the test by al and judged by al
25 i segreti del suo cuore saranno manifestati e così, prostrandosi a terra, adorerà Dio, proclamando: Dio è veramente fra voi!	25 and the secrets of his heart revealed; and so he would fal down on his face and worship God,declaring that God is indeed among you.
26 Che fare dunque, fratelli? Quando vi radunate, uno ha un salmo, un altro ha un insegnamento; uno ha una rivelazione, uno ha il dono delle lingue, un altro ha quello di interpretarle: tutto avvenga per l’edificazione.	26 Then what should it be like, brothers? When you come together each of you brings a psalm or someinstruction or a revelation, or speaks in a tongue or gives an interpretation. Let al these things be done in a waythat wil build up the community.
27 Quando si parla con il dono delle lingue, siano in due, o al massimo in tre, a parlare, uno alla volta, e vi sia uno che faccia da interprete.	27 If there are to be any people speaking in a tongue, then let there be only two, or at the most three,and those one at a time, and let one of these interpret.
28 Se non vi è chi interpreta, ciascuno di loro taccia nell’assemblea e parli solo a se stesso e a Dio.	28 If there is no interpreter, then let each of them be quiet in the assembly, and speak only to himselfand God.
29 I profeti parlino in due o tre e gli altri giudichino.	29 Let two prophets, or three, speak while the rest weigh their words;
30 Ma se poi uno dei presenti riceve una rivelazione, il primo taccia:	30 and if a revelation comes to someone else who is sitting by, the speaker should stop speaking.
31 uno alla volta, infatti, potete tutti profetare, perché tutti possano imparare ed essere esortati.	31 You can al prophesy, but one at a time, then al wil learn something and al receive encouragement.
32 Le ispirazioni dei profeti sono sottomesse ai profeti,	32 The prophetic spirit is to be under the prophets' control,
33 perché Dio non è un Dio di disordine, ma di pace. Come in tutte le comunità dei santi,	33 for God is a God not of disorder but of peace. As in al the churches of God's holy people,
34 le donne nelle assemblee tacciano perché non è loro permesso parlare; stiano invece sottomesse, come dice anche la Legge.	34 women are to remain quiet in the assemblies, since they have no permission to speak: theirs is asubordinate part, as the Law itself says.
35 Se vogliono imparare qualche cosa, interroghino a casa i loro mariti, perché è sconveniente per una donna parlare in assemblea.	35 If there is anything they want to know, they should ask their husbands at home: it is shameful for awoman to speak in the assembly.
36 Da voi, forse, è partita la parola di Dio? O è giunta soltanto a voi?	36 Do you real y think that you are the source of the word of God? Or that you are the only people towhom it has come?
37 Chi ritiene di essere profeta o dotato di doni dello Spirito, deve riconoscere che quanto vi scrivo è comando del Signore.	37 Anyone who claims to be a prophet, or to have any spiritual powers must recognise that what I amwriting to you is a commandment from the Lord.
38 Se qualcuno non lo riconosce, neppure lui viene riconosciuto.	38 If anyone does not recognise this, it is because that person is not recognised himself.
39 Dunque, fratelli miei, desiderate intensamente la profezia e, quanto al parlare con il dono delle lingue, non impeditelo.	39 So, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not suppress the gift of speaking in tongues.
40 Tutto però avvenga decorosamente e con ordine.	40 But make sure that everything is done in a proper and orderly fashion.
