Deuteronomio 7

BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Quando il Signore, tuo Dio, ti avrà introdotto nella terra in cui stai per entrare per prenderne possesso e avrà scacciato davanti a te molte nazioni: gli Ittiti, i Gergesei, gli Amorrei, i Cananei, i Perizziti, gli Evei e i Gebusei, sette nazioni più grandi e più potenti di te,	1 'When Yahweh your God has brought you into the country which you are going to make your own,many nations wil fal before you: Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites,seven nations greater and stronger than yourselves.
2 quando il Signore, tuo Dio, le avrà messe in tuo potere e tu le avrai sconfitte, tu le voterai allo sterminio. Con esse non stringerai alcuna alleanza e nei loro confronti non avrai pietà.	2 Yahweh your God will put them at your mercy and you will conquer them. You must put them under thecurse of destruction. You must not make any treaty with them or show them any pity.
3 Non costituirai legami di parentela con loro, non darai le tue figlie ai loro figli e non prenderai le loro figlie per i tuoi figli,	3 You must not intermarry with them; you must not give a daughter of yours to a son of theirs, or take adaughter of theirs for a son of yours,
4 perché allontanerebbero la tua discendenza dal seguire me, per farli servire a dèi stranieri, e l’ira del Signore si accenderebbe contro di voi e ben presto vi distruggerebbe.	4 for your son would be seduced from fol owing me into serving other gods; the wrath of Yahweh wouldblaze out against you and he would instantly destroy you.
5 Ma con loro vi comporterete in questo modo: demolirete i loro altari, spezzerete le loro stele, taglierete i loro pali sacri, brucerete i loro idoli nel fuoco.	5 Instead, treat them like this: tear down their altars, smash their standing-stones, cut down their sacredpoles and burn their idols.
6 Tu infatti sei un popolo consacrato al Signore, tuo Dio: il Signore, tuo Dio, ti ha scelto per essere il suo popolo particolare fra tutti i popoli che sono sulla terra.	6 For you are a people consecrated to Yahweh your God; of al the peoples on earth, you have beenchosen by Yahweh your God to be his own people.
7 Il Signore si è legato a voi e vi ha scelti, non perché siete più numerosi di tutti gli altri popoli – siete infatti il più piccolo di tutti i popoli –,	7 'Yahweh set his heart on you and chose you not because you were the most numerous of al peoples --for indeed you were the smal est of al -
8 ma perché il Signore vi ama e perché ha voluto mantenere il giuramento fatto ai vostri padri: il Signore vi ha fatti uscire con mano potente e vi ha riscattati liberandovi dalla condizione servile, dalla mano del faraone, re d’Egitto.	8 but because he loved you and meant to keep the oath which he swore to your ancestors: that was whyYahweh brought you out with his mighty hand and redeemed you from the place of slave-labour, from the powerof Pharaoh king of Egypt.
9 Riconosci dunque il Signore, tuo Dio: egli è Dio, il Dio fedele, che mantiene l’alleanza e la bontà per mille generazioni con coloro che lo amano e osservano i suoi comandamenti,	9 From this you can see that Yahweh your God is the true God, the faithful God who, though he is true tohis covenant and his faithful love for a thousand generations as regards those who love him and keep hiscommandments,
10 ma ripaga direttamente coloro che lo odiano, facendoli perire; non concede una dilazione a chi lo odia, ma lo ripaga direttamente.	10 punishes in their own persons those that hate him. He destroys anyone who hates him, without delay;and it is in their own persons that he punishes them.
11 Osserverai, dunque, mettendoli in pratica, i comandi, le leggi e le norme che oggi ti prescrivo.	11 Hence, you must keep and observe the commandments, laws and customs which I am laying downfor you today.
12 Se avrete dato ascolto a queste norme e se le avrete osservate e messe in pratica, il Signore, tuo Dio, conserverà per te l’alleanza e la bontà che ha giurato ai tuoi padri.	12 'Listen to these ordinances, be true to them and observe them, and in return Yahweh your God wil betrue to the covenant and love which he promised on oath to your ancestors.
13 Egli ti amerà, ti benedirà, ti moltiplicherà; benedirà il frutto del tuo seno e il frutto del tuo suolo: il tuo frumento, il tuo mosto e il tuo olio, i parti delle tue vacche e i nati del tuo gregge, nel paese che ha giurato ai tuoi padri di darti.	13 He wil love you and bless you and increase your numbers; he wil bless the fruit of your body and theproduce of your soil, your corn, your new wine, your oil, the issue of your cattle, the young of your flock, in thecountry which he swore to your ancestors that he would give you.
14 Tu sarai benedetto più di tutti i popoli: non sarà sterile né il maschio né la femmina in mezzo a te e neppure in mezzo al tuo bestiame.	14 You wil be the most blessed of al peoples. None of you, man or woman, will be sterile, no male orfemale of your beasts infertile.
15 Il Signore allontanerà da te ogni infermità e non manderà su di te alcuna di quelle funeste malattie d’Egitto, che ben conoscesti, ma le manderà a quanti ti odiano.	15 Yahweh wil deflect al il ness from you; he wil not afflict you with those evil plagues of Egypt whichyou have known, but will inflict them on al who hate you.
16 Sterminerai dunque tutti i popoli che il Signore, tuo Dio, sta per consegnarti. Il tuo occhio non ne abbia compassione e non servire i loro dèi, perché ciò è una trappola per te.	16 'So, devour all the peoples whom Yahweh your God puts at your mercy, show them no pity, do notserve their gods: or you wil be ensnared.
17 Forse dirai in cuor tuo: “Queste nazioni sono più numerose di me; come potrò scacciarle?”.	17 'You may say in your heart, "These nations outnumber me; how shal I be able to dispossess them?"
18 Non temerle! Ricòrdati di quello che il Signore, tuo Dio, fece al faraone e a tutti gli Egiziani:	18 Do not be afraid of them: remember how Yahweh your God treated Pharaoh and all Egypt,
19 le grandi prove che hai visto con gli occhi, i segni, i prodigi, la mano potente e il braccio teso, con cui il Signore, tuo Dio, ti ha fatto uscire. Così farà il Signore, tuo Dio, a tutti i popoli, dei quali hai timore.	19 the great ordeals that you yourselves have seen, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand andoutstretched arm with which Yahweh your God brought you out. This is how Yahweh your God will treat al thepeoples whom you fear to face.
20 Anche i calabroni manderà contro di loro il Signore, tuo Dio, finché non siano periti quelli che saranno rimasti illesi o nascosti al tuo sguardo.	20 And what is more, Yahweh your God wil send hornets to destroy those who are left and who hidefrom you.
21 Non tremare davanti a loro, perché il Signore, tuo Dio, è in mezzo a te, Dio grande e terribile.	21 'Do not be afraid of them, for Yahweh your God is among you, a great and terrible God.
22 Il Signore, tuo Dio, scaccerà a poco a poco queste nazioni dinanzi a te: tu non le potrai distruggere in fretta, altrimenti le bestie selvatiche si moltiplicherebbero a tuo danno;	22 Little by little, Yahweh your God will clear away these nations before you; you cannot destroy them allat once, or wild animals wil breed and be disastrous for you.
23 ma il Signore, tuo Dio, le metterà in tuo potere e le getterà in grande spavento, finché siano distrutte.	23 But Yahweh your God wil put them at your mercy, and disaster after disaster wil overtake them untilthey are finally destroyed.
24 Ti metterà nelle mani i loro re e tu farai perire i loro nomi sotto il cielo; nessuno potrà resisterti, finché tu le abbia distrutte.	24 He wil put their kings at your mercy and you wil blot out their names under heaven; no one wil beable to resist you -- until you have destroyed them al .
25 Darai alle fiamme le sculture dei loro dèi. Non bramerai e non prenderai per te l'argento e l'oro che le ricopre, altrimenti ne resteresti come preso in trappola, perché sono un abominio per il Signore, tuo Dio.	25 'You must burn the statues of their gods, not coveting the gold and silver that covers them; take it andyou wil be caught in a snare: it is detestable to Yahweh your God.
26 Non introdurrai un abominio in casa tua, perché sarai, come esso, votato allo sterminio. Lo detesterai e lo avrai in abominio, perché è votato allo sterminio.	26 You must not bring any detestable thing into your house: or you, like it, wil come under the curse ofdestruction. You must regard them as unclean and loathsome, for they are under the curse of destruction.'
