1 Poi piegammo e salimmo per la via di Basan. Og, re di Basan, con tutta la sua gente, ci venne incontro per darci battaglia a Edrei.	1 "Then we turned and proceeded toward Bashan. But Og, king of Bashan, advanced against us with all his people to give battle at Edrei.
2 Il Signore mi disse: “Non lo temere, perché io lo do in tuo potere, lui, tutta la sua gente e il suo territorio; trattalo come hai trattato Sicon, re degli Amorrei, che abitava a Chesbon”.	2 The LORD, however, said to me, 'Do not be afraid of him, for I have delivered him into your hand with all his people and his land. Do to him as you did to Sihon, king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon.'
3 Così il Signore, nostro Dio, mise in nostro potere anche Og, re di Basan, con tutta la sua gente; noi lo sconfiggemmo, così che non gli rimase più superstite alcuno.	3 And thus the LORD, our God, delivered into our hands Og, king of Bashan, with all his people. We defeated him so completely that we left him no survivor.
4 Gli prendemmo in quel tempo tutte le sue città; non ci fu città che noi non prendessimo loro: sessanta città, tutta la regione di Argob, il regno di Og in Basan	4 At that time we captured all his cities, none of them eluding our grasp, the whole region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan: sixty cities in all,
5 – tutte queste città erano fortificate, con alte mura, porte e sbarre –, senza contare le città aperte, che erano molto numerose.	5 to say nothing of the great number of unwalled towns. All the cities were fortified with high walls and gates and bars.
6 Noi le votammo allo sterminio, come avevamo fatto con Sicon, re di Chesbon: votammo allo sterminio ogni città, uomini, donne e bambini.	6 As we had done to Sihon, king of Heshbon, so also here we doomed all the cities, with their men, women and children;
7 Ma prelevammo per noi come preda il bestiame e le spoglie delle città.	7 but all the livestock and the loot of each city we took as booty for ourselves.
8 In quel tempo prendemmo ai due re degli Amorrei la terra che è oltre il Giordano, dal torrente Arnon al monte Ermon	8 "And so at that time we took from the two kings of the Amorites beyond the Jordan the territory from the Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon
9 – quelli di Sidone chiamano Sirion l’Ermon, mentre gli Amorrei lo chiamano Senir –,	9 (which is called Sirion by the Sidonians and Senir by the Amorites),
10 tutte le città della pianura, tutto Gàlaad, tutto Basan fino a Salca e a Edrei, città del regno di Og in Basan.	10 comprising all the cities of the plateau and all Gilead and all the cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan including Salecah and Edrei.
11 Perché Og, re di Basan, era rimasto l’unico superstite dei Refaìm. Ecco, il suo letto, un letto di ferro, non è forse a Rabbà degli Ammoniti? È lungo nove cubiti e largo quattro, secondo il cubito di un uomo.	11 (Og, king of Bashan, was the last remaining survivor of the Rephaim. He had a bed of iron, nine regular cubits long and four wide, which is still preserved in Rabbah of the Ammonites.)
12 In quel tempo prendemmo possesso di questa terra, da Aroèr sul torrente Arnon, fino a metà della montagna di Gàlaad: diedi le sue città ai Rubeniti e ai Gaditi.	12 "When we occupied the land at that time, I gave Reuben and Gad the territory from Aroer, on the edge of the Wadi Arnon, halfway up into the highlands of Gilead, with the cities therein.
13 Alla metà della tribù di Manasse diedi il resto di Gàlaad e tutto il regno di Og in Basan, tutta la regione di Argob con tutto Basan, che si chiamava terra dei Refaìm.	13 The rest of Gilead and all of Bashan, the kingdom of Og, the whole Argob region, I gave to the half-tribe of Manasseh. (All this region of Bashan was once called a land of the Rephaim.
14 Iair, figlio di Manasse, prese tutta la regione di Argob, sino ai confini dei Ghesuriti e dei Maacatiti, e chiamò con il suo nome i villaggi di Basan, che anche oggi si chiamano villaggi di Iair.	14 Jair, a Manassehite clan, took all the region of Argob as far as the border of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and called it after his own name Bashan Havvoth-jair, the name it bears today.)
15 A Machir assegnai Gàlaad.	15 To Machir I gave Gilead,
16 Ai Rubeniti e ai Gaditi diedi da Gàlaad fino al torrente Arnon – fino alla metà del torrente che serve di confine – e fino al torrente Iabbok, frontiera degli Ammoniti,	16 and to Reuben and Gad the territory from Gilead to the Wadi Arnon--including the wadi bed and its banks--and to the Wadi Jabbok, which is the border of the Ammonites,
17 inoltre l’Araba e il Giordano; il territorio va da Chinneret fino al mare dell’Araba, cioè il Mar Morto, sotto le pendici del Pisga, a oriente.	17 as well as the Arabah with the Jordan and its eastern banks from Chinnereth to the Salt Sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.
18 In quel tempo io vi diedi quest’ordine: “Il Signore, vostro Dio, vi ha dato questo paese in proprietà. Voi tutti, uomini vigorosi, passerete armati alla testa degli Israeliti vostri fratelli.	18 "At that time I charged them as follows 'The LORD, your God, has given you this land as your own. But all you troops equipped for battle must cross over in the vanguard of your brother Israelites.
19 Soltanto le vostre mogli, i vostri fanciulli e il vostro bestiame – so che di bestiame ne avete molto – rimarranno nelle città che vi ho dato,	19 Only your wives and children, as well as your livestock, of which I know you have a large number, shall remain behind in the towns I have given you,
20 finché il Signore abbia dato una dimora tranquilla ai vostri fratelli come ha fatto per voi, e prendano anch’essi possesso della terra che il Signore, vostro Dio, sta per dare a loro oltre il Giordano. Poi ciascuno tornerà nel territorio che io vi ho assegnato”.	20 until the LORD has settled your kinsmen as well, and they too possess the land which the LORD, your God, will give them on the other side of the Jordan. Then you may all return to the possessions I have given you.'
21 In quel tempo diedi anche a Giosuè quest’ordine: “I tuoi occhi hanno visto quanto il Signore, vostro Dio, ha fatto a questi due re; lo stesso farà il Signore a tutti i regni nei quali tu stai per entrare.	21 "It was then that I instructed Joshua, 'Your eyes have seen all that the LORD, your God, has done to both these kings; so, too, will the LORD do to all the kingdoms which you will encounter over there.
22 Non li temete, perché lo stesso Signore, vostro Dio, combatte per voi”.	22 Fear them not, for the LORD, your God, will fight for you.'
23 In quel tempo io supplicai il Signore dicendo:	23 "And it was then that I besought the LORD,
24 “Signore Dio, tu hai cominciato a mostrare al tuo servo la tua grandezza e la tua mano potente; quale altro Dio, infatti, in cielo o sulla terra, può fare opere e prodigi come i tuoi?	24 'O Lord GOD, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and might. For what god in heaven or on earth can perform deeds as mighty as yours?
25 Permetti che io passi al di là e veda la bella terra che è oltre il Giordano e questi bei monti e il Libano”.	25 Ah, let me cross over and see this good land beyond the Jordan, this fine hill country, and the Lebanon!'
26 Ma il Signore si adirò contro di me, per causa vostra, e non mi esaudì. Il Signore mi disse: “Basta, non aggiungere più una parola su questo argomento.	26 But the LORD was angry with me on your account and would not hear me. 'Enough!' the LORD said to me. 'Speak to me no more of this.
27 Sali sulla cima del Pisga, volgi lo sguardo a occidente, a settentrione, a mezzogiorno e a oriente, e contempla con gli occhi; perché tu non attraverserai questo Giordano.	27 Go up to the top of Pisgah and look out to the west, and to the north, and to the south, and to the east. Look well, for you shall not cross this Jordan.
28 Trasmetti i tuoi ordini a Giosuè, rendilo intrepido e incoraggialo, perché lui lo attraverserà alla testa di questo popolo e metterà Israele in possesso della terra che vedrai”.	28 Commission Joshua, and encourage and strengthen him, for he shall cross at the head of this people and shall put them in possession of the land you are to see.'
29 Così ci fermammo nella valle di fronte a Bet-Peor.	29 This was while we were in the ravine opposite Beth-peor.
