1 Sei giorni dopo, Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni suo fratello e li condusse in disparte, su un alto monte.	1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a highmountain by themselves.
2 E fu trasfigurato davanti a loro: il suo volto brillò come il sole e le sue vesti divennero candide come la luce.	2 There in their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became asdazzling as light.
3 Ed ecco, apparvero loro Mosè ed Elia, che conversavano con lui.	3 And suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him.
4 Prendendo la parola, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Signore, è bello per noi essere qui! Se vuoi, farò qui tre capanne, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia».	4 Then Peter spoke to Jesus. 'Lord,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; if you want me to, I willmake three shelters here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.'
5 Egli stava ancora parlando, quando una nube luminosa li coprì con la sua ombra. Ed ecco una voce dalla nube che diceva: «Questi è il Figlio mio, l’amato: in lui ho posto il mio compiacimento. Ascoltatelo».	5 He was stil speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered them with shadow, and suddenly from thecloud there came a voice which said, 'This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.'
6 All’udire ciò, i discepoli caddero con la faccia a terra e furono presi da grande timore.	6 When they heard this, the disciples fel on their faces, overcome with fear.
7 Ma Gesù si avvicinò, li toccò e disse: «Alzatevi e non temete».	7 But Jesus came up and touched them, saying, 'Stand up, do not be afraid.'
8 Alzando gli occhi non videro nessuno, se non Gesù solo.	8 And when they raised their eyes they saw no one but Jesus.
9 Mentre scendevano dal monte, Gesù ordinò loro: «Non parlate a nessuno di questa visione, prima che il Figlio dell’uomo non sia risorto dai morti».	9 As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order, 'Tel no one about this vision untilthe Son of man has risen from the dead.'
10 Allora i discepoli gli domandarono: «Perché dunque gli scribi dicono che prima deve venire Elia?».	10 And the disciples put this question to him, 'Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?'
11 Ed egli rispose: «Sì, verrà Elia e ristabilirà ogni cosa.	11 He replied, 'Elijah is indeed coming, and he wil set everything right again;
12 Ma io vi dico: Elia è già venuto e non l’hanno riconosciuto; anzi, hanno fatto di lui quello che hanno voluto. Così anche il Figlio dell’uomo dovrà soffrire per opera loro».	12 however, I tel you that Elijah has come already and they did not recognise him but treated him asthey pleased; and the Son of man wil suffer similarly at their hands.'
13 Allora i discepoli compresero che egli parlava loro di Giovanni il Battista.	13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking of John the Baptist.
14 Appena ritornati presso la folla, si avvicinò a Gesù un uomo che gli si gettò in ginocchio	14 As they were rejoining the crowd a man came up to him and went down on his knees before him.
15 e disse: «Signore, abbi pietà di mio figlio! È epilettico e soffre molto; cade spesso nel fuoco e sovente nell’acqua.	15 'Lord,' he said, 'take pity on my son: he is demented and in a wretched state; he is always fal ing intofire and into water.
16 L’ho portato dai tuoi discepoli, ma non sono riusciti a guarirlo».	16 I took him to your disciples and they were unable to cure him.'
17 E Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa! Fino a quando sarò con voi? Fino a quando dovrò sopportarvi? Portatelo qui da me».	17 In reply, Jesus said, 'Faithless and perverse generation! How much longer must I be with you? Howmuch longer must I put up with you? Bring him here to me.'
18 Gesù lo minacciò e il demonio uscì da lui, e da quel momento il ragazzo fu guarito.	18 And when Jesus rebuked it the devil came out of the boy, who was cured from that moment.
19 Allora i discepoli si avvicinarono a Gesù, in disparte, e gli chiesero: «Perché noi non siamo riusciti a scacciarlo?».	19 Then the disciples came privately to Jesus. 'Why were we unable to drive it out?' they asked.
20 Ed egli rispose loro: «Per la vostra poca fede. In verità io vi dico: se avrete fede pari a un granello di senape, direte a questo monte: “Spòstati da qui a là”, ed esso si sposterà, e nulla vi sarà impossibile».	20 He answered, 'Because you have so little faith. In truth I tel you, if your faith is the size of a mustardseed you wil say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it wil move; nothing will be impossible foryou.'

22 Mentre si trovavano insieme in Galilea, Gesù disse loro: «Il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere consegnato nelle mani degli uomini	22 When they were together in Galilee, Jesus said to them, 'The Son of man is going to be delivered intothe power of men;
23 e lo uccideranno, ma il terzo giorno risorgerà». Ed essi furono molto rattristati.	23 they will put him to death, and on the third day he wil be raised up again.' And a great sadness cameover them.
24 Quando furono giunti a Cafàrnao, quelli che riscuotevano la tassa per il tempio si avvicinarono a Pietro e gli dissero: «Il vostro maestro non paga la tassa?».	24 When they reached Capernaum, the col ectors of the half-shekel came to Peter and said, 'Does yourmaster not pay the half-shekel?'
25 Rispose: «Sì». Mentre entrava in casa, Gesù lo prevenne dicendo: «Che cosa ti pare, Simone? I re della terra da chi riscuotono le tasse e i tributi? Dai propri figli o dagli estranei?».	25 'Yes,' he replied, and went into the house. But before he could speak, Jesus said, 'Simon, what isyour opinion? From whom do earthly kings take tol or tribute? From their sons or from foreigners?'
26 Rispose: «Dagli estranei». E Gesù replicò: «Quindi i figli sono liberi.	26 And when he replied, 'From foreigners,' Jesus said, 'Well then, the sons are exempt.
27 Ma, per evitare di scandalizzarli, va’ al mare, getta l’amo e prendi il primo pesce che viene su, aprigli la bocca e vi troverai una moneta d’argento. Prendila e consegnala loro per me e per te».	27 However, so that we shal not be the downfal of others, go to the lake and cast a hook; take the firstfish that rises, open its mouth and there you wil find a shekel; take it and give it to them for me and for yourself.'
