1 Ella protesse il padre del mondo, plasmato per primo, che era stato creato solo, lo sollevò dalla sua caduta	1 It was Wisdom who protected the first man to be fashioned, the father of the world, who had beencreated al alone, she it was who rescued him from his fal
2 e gli diede la forza per dominare tutte le cose.	2 and gave him the strength to subjugate al things.
3 Ma un ingiusto, allontanatosi da lei nella sua collera, si rovinò con il suo furore fratricida.	3 But when in his wrath a wicked man deserted her, he perished in his fratricidal fury.
4 La sapienza salvò di nuovo la terra sommersa per propria colpa, pilotando il giusto su un semplice legno.	4 When because of him the earth was drowned, it was Wisdom again who saved it, piloting the uprightman on valueless timber.
5 Quando i popoli furono confusi, unanimi nella loro malvagità, ella riconobbe il giusto, lo conservò davanti a Dio senza macchia e lo mantenne forte nonostante la sua tenerezza per il figlio.	5 Again, when, concurring in wickedness, the nations had been thrown into confusion, she singled outthe upright man, preserved him blameless before God and fortified him against pity for his child.
6 Mentre perivano gli empi, ella liberò un giusto che fuggiva il fuoco caduto sulle cinque città.	6 She it was who, while the godless perished, saved the upright man as he fled from the fire rainingdown on the Five Cities,
7 A testimonianza di quella malvagità esiste ancora una terra desolata, fumante, alberi che producono frutti immaturi e, a memoria di un’anima incredula, s’innalza una colonna di sale.	7 in witness against whose evil ways a desolate land still smokes, where plants bear fruit that neverripens and where, monument to an unbelieving soul, there stands a pillar of salt.
8 Essi infatti, incuranti della sapienza, non solo subirono il danno di non conoscere il bene, ma lasciarono anche ai viventi un ricordo di insipienza, perché nelle cose in cui sbagliarono non potessero rimanere nascosti.	8 For, by ignoring the path of Wisdom, not only did they suffer the loss of not knowing the good, but theyleft the world a memorial to their fol y, so that their offences could not pass unnoticed.
9 La sapienza invece liberò dalle sofferenze coloro che la servivano.	9 But Wisdom delivered her servants from their ordeals.
10 Per diritti sentieri ella guidò il giusto in fuga dall’ira del fratello, gli mostrò il regno di Dio e gli diede la conoscenza delle cose sante; lo fece prosperare nelle fatiche e rese fecondo il suo lavoro.	10 The upright man, fleeing from the anger of his brother, was led by her along straight paths. Sheshowed him the kingdom of God and taught him the knowledge of holy things. She brought him success in hislabours and gave him ful return for all his efforts;
11 Lo assistette contro l’ingordigia dei suoi oppressori e lo rese ricco;	11 she stood by him against grasping and oppressive men and she made him rich.
12 lo custodì dai nemici, lo protesse da chi lo insidiava, gli assegnò la vittoria in una lotta dura, perché sapesse che più potente di tutto è la pietà.	12 She preserved him from his enemies and saved him from the traps they set for him. In an arduousstruggle she awarded him the prize, to teach him that piety is stronger than al .
13 Ella non abbandonò il giusto venduto, ma lo liberò dal peccato.	13 She did not forsake the upright man when he was sold, but snatched him away from sin;
14 Scese con lui nella prigione, non lo abbandonò mentre era in catene, finché gli procurò uno scettro regale e l’autorità su coloro che dominavano sopra di lui; mostrò che i suoi accusatori erano bugiardi e gli diede una gloria eterna.	14 she accompanied him down into the pit, nor did she abandon him in his chains until she had broughthim the sceptre of a kingdom and authority over his despotic masters, thus exposing as liars those who hadtraduced him, and giving him honour everlasting.
15 Ella liberò il popolo santo e la stirpe senza macchia da una nazione di oppressori.	15 It was Wisdom who delivered a holy people, a blameless race, from a nation of oppressors.
16 Entrò nell’anima di un servo del Signore e con prodigi e segni tenne testa a re terribili.	16 She entered the soul of a servant of the Lord, and withstood fearsome kings with wonders and signs.
17 Diede ai santi la ricompensa delle loro pene, li guidò per una strada meravigliosa, divenne per loro riparo di giorno e luce di stelle nella notte.	17 To the holy people she gave the wages of their labours; she guided them by a marvellous road,herself their shelter by day -- and their starlight through the night.
18 Fece loro attraversare il Mar Rosso e li guidò attraverso acque abbondanti;	18 She brought them across the Red Sea, leading them through an immensity of water,
19 sommerse invece i loro nemici e li rigettò dal fondo dell’abisso.	19 whereas she drowned their enemies, then spat them out from the depths of the abyss.
20 Per questo i giusti depredarono gli empi e celebrarono, o Signore, il tuo nome che è santo, e lodarono concordi la tua mano che combatteva per loro,	20 So the upright despoiled the godless; Lord, they extol ed your holy name, and with one accordpraised your protecting hand;
21 perché la sapienza aveva aperto la bocca dei muti e aveva reso chiara la lingua dei bambini.	21 for Wisdom opened the mouths of the dumb and made eloquent the tongues of babes.
