1 Questi sono gli uomini che raggiunsero Davide a Siklag, quando ancora fuggiva di fronte a Saul, figlio di Kis. Essi erano i prodi che l’aiutarono in guerra.	1 These are the men who rallied to David at Ziklag while he was stil being kept away from Saul son ofKish; they were among the champions, the warriors.
2 Erano armati d’arco e sapevano tirare frecce e sassi con la destra e con la sinistra; erano della tribù di Beniamino, fratelli di Saul:	2 They were equipped with bows and could sling stones or shoot arrows from the bow with either righthand or left. Of Saul's fellow-tribesmen from Benjamin:
3 Achièzer, il capo, e Ioas, figli di Semaà, di Gàbaa, Iezièl e Pelet, figli di Azmàvet, Beracà e Ieu di Anatòt,	3 Ahiezer the leader, and Joash, sons of Hassemar of Gibeah, Jeziel and Peleth, sons of Azmaveth,Berachah and Jehu of Anathoth,
4 Ismaia di Gàbaon, prode fra i Trenta e sopra i Trenta,	4 Ishmaiah of Gibeon, one of the champions in the Thirty and commander of the Thirty,
5 Geremia, Iacazièl, Giovanni e Iozabàd di Ghederà,	5 Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan and Jozabed of Gederoth,
6 Eleuzài, Ierimòt, Bealia, Semaria, Sefatia di Carif,	6 Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, Shephatiah of Hariph,

9 Dei Gaditi alcuni uomini passarono a Davide nella fortezza del deserto; erano uomini valorosi, guerrieri pronti a combattere, abili nell’uso dello scudo e della lancia, sembravano leoni ed erano agili come gazzelle sui monti:	9 From the Gadites, some good, capable fighting men defected and came to David at the stronghold inthe desert -- al skil ed with shield and spear, fierce as lions and nimble as mountain gazel es.
10 Ezer era il capo, Abdia il secondo, Eliàb il terzo,	10 Ezer was the leader, Obadiah second, Eliab third,
11 Mismannà il quarto, Geremia il quinto,	11 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,
12 Attài il sesto, Elièl il settimo,	12 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,
13 Giovanni l’ottavo, Elzabàd il nono,	13 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,
14 Geremia il decimo, Macbannài l’undicesimo.	14 Jeremiah tenth, Machbannai eleventh.
15 Costoro erano discendenti di Gad, capi dell’esercito; il più piccolo ne comandava cento e il più grande mille.	15 These Gadites were the leaders of the troops, the least of them a match for a hundred men and thegreatest a match for a thousand.
16 Questi attraversarono il Giordano nel primo mese dell’anno, mentre era in piena su tutte le rive, e misero in fuga tutti gli abitanti della valle a oriente e a occidente.	16 These were the men who once crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed itsbanks and had driven out al the lowlanders to east and west.
17 Alcuni dei figli di Beniamino e di Giuda andarono da Davide fino alla sua fortezza.	17 Some of the Benjaminites and Judahites also joined David at the stronghold.
18 Davide uscì loro incontro e presa la parola disse loro: «Se siete venuti da me con intenzioni pacifiche per aiutarmi, sono disposto a unirmi a voi; ma se venite per tradirmi e consegnarmi ai miei avversari, mentre non c’è violenza nelle mie mani, il Dio dei nostri padri veda e punisca».	18 When David came forward to meet them, he responded to them by saying, 'If you have come to mewith peaceful intent to help me, you will find me a good friend. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, seeing thatI have done nothing wrong, may the God of our ancestors take note and condemn you.'
19 Allora lo spirito invase Amasài, capo dei Trenta: «Per te, Davide, e con te, figlio di Iesse. Pace, pace a te, e pace a chi ti aiuta, perché il tuo Dio ti aiuta». Davide li accolse e li costituì capi di schiere.	19 Then the Spirit invested Amasai the leader of the Thirty: 'We are your men, David; with you, son ofJesse! Peace be with you, peace be with you; peace be with those who help you! For your God has helped you!'And David accepted them, including them among his more senior officers.
20 Anche da Manasse alcuni passarono a Davide, mentre insieme con i Filistei marciava in guerra contro Saul. Egli però non li aiutò perché, essendosi consultati, i prìncipi dei Filistei lo rimandarono dicendo: «A danno delle nostre teste, egli passerebbe a Saul, suo signore».	20 Some Manassehites also defected to David as he was setting out with the Philistines to fight Saul.But he did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their chiefs sent him away, saying, 'He wil defectto his master Saul and it wil cost us our heads!'
21 Mentre era diretto a Siklag, passarono dalla sua parte i manassiti Adnach, Iozabàd, Iediaèl, Michele, Iozabàd, Eliu e Silletài, capi di migliaia nella tribù di Manasse.	21 He was on his way to Ziklag when these Manassehites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael,Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, Zil ethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
22 Essi aiutarono Davide contro i razziatori, perché erano tutti valorosi, e divennero comandanti dell’esercito.	22 They helped David and his band, since they were al men of standing and became officers in thearmy.
23 In verità ogni giorno alcuni passavano dalla parte di Davide per aiutarlo e così il suo divenne un accampamento enorme.	23 Indeed reinforcements reached David day after day, so that his camp grew into a camp of prodigioussize.
24 Ecco le cifre dei capi armati che passarono a Davide a Ebron per trasferire il regno da Saul a lui, secondo l’ordine del Signore.	24 These are the numbers of ful y armed men who joined David at Hebron to transfer Saul's kingdom tohim in accordance with the order of Yahweh:
25 Dei figli di Giuda, che portavano scudo e lancia: seimilaottocento armati.	25 Judahites carrying shield and spear: six thousand eight hundred ful y armed warriors;
26 Dei figli di Simeone, uomini valorosi in guerra: settemilacento.	26 Simeonites; seven thousand one hundred champions valiant in war;
27 Dei figli di Levi: quattromilaseicento,	27 Levites: four thousand six hundred,
28 inoltre Ioiadà, condottiero della famiglia di Aronne, e con lui tremilasettecento,	28 in addition to Jehoiada, in command of the Aaronites, with three thousand seven hundred of these,
29 e Sadoc, giovane molto valoroso, e il casato con i ventidue comandanti.	29 Zadok, a young and valiant champion, and twenty-two commanders of his family;
30 Dei figli di Beniamino, fratelli di Saul: tremila, perché in massima parte essi rimasero al servizio della casa di Saul.	30 Benjaminites: three thousand kinsmen of Saul, most of them hitherto in the service of the House ofSaul;
31 Dei figli di Èfraim: ventimilaottocento uomini valorosi, celebri nei loro casati.	31 Ephraimites: twenty thousand eight hundred valiant champions, men famous in their families;
32 Di metà della tribù di Manàsse: diciottomila, che furono designati per nome, per andare a proclamare re Davide.	32 of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand men assigned by name to go and proclaim Davidking;
33 Dei figli di Ìssacar, che conoscevano bene i vari tempi, in modo da sapere che cosa dovesse fare Israele: duecento capi e tutti i loro fratelli alle loro dipendenze.	33 Issacharites, sound judges of the times when Israel should take action, and the way to do it: twohundred chiefs and al their kinsmen under their command;
34 Di Zàbulon: cinquantamila, arruolati nell’esercito, pronti per la battaglia con tutte le armi da guerra, disposti ad aiutare senza doppiezza.	34 Zebulunites: fifty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle, with warlike weapons of everykind, staunch-hearted auxiliaries;
35 Di Nèftali: mille comandanti e con loro trentasettemila dotati di scudo e di lancia.	35 Naphtalites: a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand men armed with shieldand spear;
36 Dei Daniti: ventottomilaseicento, armati per la guerra.	36 Danites: twenty-eight thousand six hundred men marshal ed for battle;
37 Di Aser: quarantamila guerrieri, arruolati nell’esercito e armati per la guerra.	37 Asherites: forty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle;
38 Dalla Transgiordania, ossia dei Rubeniti, dei Gaditi e di metà della tribù di Manasse: centoventimila con tutte le armi da guerra.	38 from Transjordan: a hundred and twenty thousand men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe ofManasseh, with warlike weapons of every kind.
39 Tutti costoro, guerrieri pronti a marciare, con cuore leale si recarono a Ebron per proclamare Davide re su tutto Israele; anche tutto il resto d’Israele era concorde nel proclamare re Davide.	39 Al these warriors in battle array came to David at Hebron with the firm determination of makingDavid king of al Israel; and the rest of Israel, too, was of one mind in wanting to make David king.
40 Rimasero là con Davide tre giorni, mangiando e bevendo quanto i fratelli avevano preparato per loro.	40 For three days they stayed there with David, eating and drinking, their fellow-tribesmen having madepreparations for them;
41 Anche i loro vicini e perfino da Ìssacar, da Zàbulon e da Nèftali avevano portato cibarie con asini, cammelli, muli e buoi: farina, schiacciate di fichi, uva passa, vino, olio, buoi e pecore in gran quantità, perché c’era gioia in Israele.	41 their neighbours too, from as far away as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food ondonkeys, camels, mules and oxen-supplies of flour, fig cakes, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, quantities of oxenand sheep -- for there was joy in Israel.
