1 Un governatore saggio educa il suo popolo, l'autorità di un uomo assennato sarà ben ordinata.	1 A wise magistrate lends stability to his people, and the government of a prudent man is well ordered.
2 Quale il governatore del popolo, tali i suoi ministri; quale il capo di una città, tali tutti gli abitanti.	2 As the people's judge, so are his ministers; as the head of a city, its inhabitants.
3 Un re senza formazione rovinerà il suo popolo; una città prospererà per il senno dei capi.	3 A wanton king destroys his people, but a city grows through the wisdom of its princes.
4 Il governo del mondo è nelle mani del Signore; egli vi susciterà al momento giusto l'uomo adatto.	4 Sovereignty over the earth is in the hand of God, who raises up on it the man of the hour;
5 Il successo dell'uomo è nelle mani del Signore, che investirà il magistrato della sua autorità.	5 Sovereignty over every man is in the hand of God, who imparts his majesty to the ruler.
6 Non crucciarti con il tuo prossimo per un torto qualsiasi; non far nulla in preda all'ira.	6 No matter the wrong, do no violence to your neighbor, and do not walk the path of arrogance.
7 Odiosa al Signore e agli uomini è la superbia, all'uno e agli altri è in abominio l'ingiustizia.	7 Odious to the LORD and to men is arrogance, and the sin of oppression they both hate.
8 L'impero passa da un popolo a un altro a causa delle ingiustizie, delle violenze e delle ricchezze.	8 Dominion is transferred from one people to another because of the violence of the arrogant.
9 Perché mai si insuperbisce chi è terra e cenere? Anche da vivo le sue viscere sono ripugnanti.	9 Why are dust and ashes proud? even during life man's body decays;
10 La malattia è lunga, il medico se la ride; chi oggi è re, domani morirà.	10 A slight illness--the doctor jests, a king today--tomorrow he is dead.
11 Quando l'uomo muore eredita insetti, belve e vermi.	11 When a man dies, he inherits corruption; worms and gnats and maggots.
12 Principio della superbia umana è allontanarsi dal Signore, tenere il proprio cuore lontano da chi l'ha creato.	12 The beginning of pride is man's stubbornness in withdrawing his heart from his Maker;
13 Principio della superbia infatti è il peccato; chi vi si abbandona diffonde intorno a sé l'abominio. Per questo il Signore rende incredibili i suoi castighi e lo flagella sino a finirlo.	13 For pride is the reservoir of sin, a source which runs over with vice; Because of it God sends unheard-of afflictions and brings men to utter ruin.
14 Il Signore ha abbattuto il trono dei potenti, al loro posto ha fatto sedere gli umili.	14 The thrones of the arrogant God overturns and establishes the lowly in their stead.
15 Il Signore ha estirpato le radici delle nazioni, al loro posto ha piantato gli umili.	15 The roots of the proud God plucks up, to plant the humble in their place:
16 Il Signore ha sconvolto le regioni delle nazioni, e le ha distrutte fin dalle fondamenta della terra.	16 He breaks down their stem to the level of the ground, then digs their roots from the earth.
17 Le ha estirpate e annientate, ha fatto scomparire dalla terra il loro ricordo.	17 The traces of the proud God sweeps away and effaces the memory of them from the earth.
18 Non è fatta per gli uomini la superbia, né per i nati di donna l'arroganza.	18 Insolence is not allotted to a man, nor stubborn anger to one born of woman.
19 Quale stirpe è onorata? La stirpe dell'uomo. Quale stirpe è onorata? Coloro che temono il Signore.	19 Whose offspring can be in honor? Those of men. Which offspring are in honor? Those who fear God. Whose offspring can be in disgrace? Those of men. Which offspring are in disgrace? Those who transgress the commandments.
20 Quale stirpe è ignobile? La stirpe dell'uomo. Quale stirpe è ignobile? Coloro che trasgrediscono i comandamenti.	20 Among brethren their leader is in honor; he who fears God is in honor among his people.
21 Tra i fratelli è onorato il loro capo, ma coloro che temono il Signore lo sono ai suoi occhi.	21 Be it tenant or wayfarer, alien or pauper, his glory is the fear of the LORD.
22 Uno ricco, onorato o povero, ponga il proprio vanto nel timore del Signore.	22 It is not just to despise a man who is wise but poor, nor proper to honor any sinner.
23 Non è giusto disprezzare un povero assennato e non conviene esaltare un uomo peccatore.	23 The prince, the ruler, the judge are in honor; but none is greater than he who fears God.
24 Il nobile, il giudice e il potente sono onorati; ma nessuno di loro è più grande di chi teme il Signore.	24 When free men serve a prudent slave, the wise man does not complain.
25 Uomini liberi serviranno un servo sapiente; un uomo intelligente non mormora per questo.	25 Flaunt not your wisdom in managing your affairs, and boast not in your time of need.
26 Non fare il saccente nel compiere il tuo lavoro e non gloriarti al momento del bisogno.	26 Better the worker who has plenty of everything than the boaster who is without bread.
27 Meglio uno che lavora e abbonda di tutto che chi va in giro vantandosi e manca di cibo.	27 My son, with humility have self-esteem; prize yourself as you deserve.
28 Figlio, con modestia glorifica l'anima tua e rendile onore secondo che merita.	28 Who will acquit him who condemns himself? who will honor him who discredits himself?
29 Chi darà ragione a uno che si dà torto da sé? Chi stimerà uno che si disprezza?	29 The poor man is honored for his wisdom as the rich man is honored for his wealth;
30 Un povero è onorato per la sua scienza, un ricco è onorato per la sua ricchezza.	30 Honored in poverty, how much more so in wealth! Dishonored in wealth, in poverty how much the more!
31 Chi è onorato nella povertà, quanto più lo sarà nella ricchezza? Chi è disprezzato nella ricchezza, quanto più lo sarà nella povertà?
