| 1 E prendendo Gesù a parlare di nuovo disse loro in parabole: | 1 And responding, Jesus again spoke to them in parables, saying: |
| 2 «Il regno dei cieli si può assomigliare a un re il quale fece a suo figlio un festino di nozze. | 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who was king, who celebrated a wedding for his son. |
| 3 E mandò i suoi servi a chiamare gli invitati, ma questi si rifiutarono di venire. | 3 And he sent his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding. But they were not willing to come. |
| 4 Mandò ancora altri servi, dicendo: “ Dite agli invitati: Ecco, ho già preparato il mio pranzo; i miei buoi e le mie bestie grasse sono state sgozzate e tutto è pronto: venite alle nozze ”. | 4 Again, he sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell the invited: Behold, I have prepared my meal. My bulls and fatlings have been killed, and all is ready. Come to the wedding.’ |
| 5 Ma quelli non ne tennero conto e se ne andarono, chi nel proprio campo, chi per il suo commercio; | 5 But they ignored this and they went away: one to his country estate, and another to his business. |
| 6 altri, poi, impadronitisi dei servi, li oltraggiarono e li uccisero. | 6 Yet truly, the rest took hold of his servants and, having treated them with contempt, killed them. |
| 7 Il re, allora, si sdegnò; mandò i suoi soldati e fece perire quegli omicidi, e incendiò la loro città. | 7 But when the king heard this, he was angry. And sending out his armies, he destroyed those murderers, and he burned their city. |
| 8 Quindi disse ai suoi servi: “ Il festino nuziale è pronto, ma gli invitati non ne erano degni. | 8 Then he said to his servants: ‘The wedding, indeed, has been prepared. But those who were invited were not worthy. |

| 10 Quei servi si sparsero per le vie e radunarono quanti incontrarono, cattivi e buoni; e la sala delle nozze si riempì di convitati. | 10 And his servants, departing into the ways, gathered all those whom they found, bad and good, and the wedding was filled with guests. |
| 11 Ora, entrato il re per vedere i convitati, vi scorse un uomo che non indossava l’abito di nozze. | 11 Then the king entered to see the guests. And he saw a man there who was not clothed in a wedding garment. |
| 12 E gli dice: “ Amico, come sei entrato qui senza aver l’abito di nozze? ”. Quegli ammutolì. | 12 And he said to him, ‘Friend, how is it that you have entered here without having a wedding garment?’ But he was dumbstruck. |
| 13 Il re disse allora ai servi: “ Legategli piedi e mani e gettatelo nelle tenebre di fuori; là sarà il pianto e lo stridor dei denti ”. | 13 Then the king said to the ministers: ‘Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. |

| 15 Allora i farisei se ne andarono e tennero consiglio sul modo di irretire Gesù con la sua parola. | 15 Then the Pharisees, going out, took counsel as to how they might entrap him in speech. |
| 16 Gli mandarono, dunque, i loro discepoli con gli erodiani per dirgli: « Maestro, noi sappiamo che tu sei sincero e che insegni la via di Dio con franchezza, senza riguardi per nessuno, perchè non guardi in faccia agli uomini. | 16 And they sent their disciples to him, with the Herodians, saying: “Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and that you teach the way of God in truth, and that the influence of others is nothing to you. For you do not consider the reputation of men. |
| 17 Dicci dunque: che ti pare? È lecito o no pagare a Cesare il tributo ? ». | 17 Therefore, tell us, how does it seem to you? Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar, or not?” |
| 18 Ma Gesù, conoscendo la loro malizia, rispose: « Perchè mi tendete un tranello, ipocriti? | 18 But Jesus, knowing their wickedness, said: “Why do you test me, you hypocrites? |
| 19 Mostratemi la moneta del tributo ». Gli presentarono un denaro. | 19 Show me the coin of the census tax.” And they offered him a denarius. |
| 20 E dice loro: « Di chi è questa effige e l’iscrizione? ». | 20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose image is this, and whose inscription?” |
| 21 «Di Cesare» gli risposero. Allora egli dice loro: « Rendete, dunque, a Cesare quel che è di Cesare e a Dio quel che è di Dio», | 21 They said to him, “Caesar’s.” Then he said to them, “Then render to Caesar what is of Caesar; and to God what is of God.” |
| 22 A queste parole rimasero stupiti, e lasciatolo se ne andarono. | 22 And hearing this, they wondered. And having left him behind, they went away. |
| 23 Quello stesso giorno si avvicinarono a lui dei sadducei, quelli che negano la risurrezione, e lo interrogarono | 23 In that day, the Sadducees, who say there is to be no resurrection, approached him. And they questioned him, |
| 24 dicendo: « Maestro, Mosè ha detto: Se qualcuno muore senza figli, il fratello sposerà la vedova per suscitare una discendenza a suo fratello. | 24 saying: “Teacher, Moses said: If anyone will have died, having no son, his brother shall marry his wife, and he shall raise up offspring to his brother. |
| 25 Ora, c’eran tra noi sette fratelli. Il primo, sposatosi, morì e, non avendo discendenza, lasciò la moglie a suo fratello. | 25 Now there were seven brothers with us. And the first, having taken a wife, died. And having no offspring, he left his wife to his brother: |
| 26 Così il secondo, il terzo e tutti e sette. | 26 similarly with the second, and the third, even to the seventh. |
| 27 Dopo di tutti, morì la donna. | 27 And last of all, the woman also passed away. |
| 28 Nella risurrezione, dunque, di quale dei sette essa sarà moglie? Poichè di tutti essa lo è stata». | 28 In the resurrection, then, whose wife of the seven will she be? For they all had her.” |
| 29 Ma Gesù rispose loro: « Voi errate e non comprendete nè le Scritture nè la potenza di Dio. | 29 But Jesus responded to them by saying: “You have gone astray by knowing neither the Scriptures, nor the power of God. |
| 30 Alla risurrezione, infatti, non ci si ammoglia nè ci si marita, ma si è come angeli di Dio nel cielo. | 30 For in the resurrection, they shall neither marry, nor be given in marriage. Instead, they shall be like the Angels of God in heaven. |
| 31 Quanto poi alla risurrezione dei morti, non avete letto ciò che Dio vi ha detto: | 31 But concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken by God, saying to you: |
| 32 Io sono il Dio d’Abramo, il Dio d’Isacco, e il Dio di Giacobbe? Non è il Dio dei morti ma dei viventi». | 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob?’ He is not the God of the dead, but of the living.” |
| 33 E le folle, avendo udito ciò, erano piene di ammirazione per il suo insegnamento. | 33 And when the crowds heard this, they wondered at his doctrine. |
| 34 I farisei, avendo saputo che egli aveva chiuso la bocca ai sadducei, si riunirono in gruppo | 34 But the Pharisees, hearing that he had caused the Sadducees to be silent, came together as one. |
| 35 e uno di essi, un dottore della legge, gli domandò per metterlo alla prova: | 35 And one of them, a doctor of the law, questioned him, to test him: |
| 36 « Maestro, qual è il più grande comandamento della Legge? ». | 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” |
| 37 Ed egli a lui: « Amerai il Signore Dio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore e con tutta l’anima tua e con tutta la tua mente; | 37 Jesus said to him: “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God from all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ |
| 38 questo è il più grande ed il primo comandamento. | 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. |
| 39 Il secondo gli è simile: Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso. | 39 But the second is similar to it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ |
| 40 Su questi due comandamenti si fonda tutta la Legge e i Profeti ». | 40 On these two commandments the entire law depends, and also the prophets.” |
| 41 Trovandosi i farisei radunati, Gesù li interrogò dicendo: | 41 Then, when the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus questioned them, |
| 42 « Che cosa pensate del Messia? Di chi è figlio? ». Gli rispondono: « Di Davide » Gesù riprese: | 42 saying: “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” They said to him, “David’s.” |
| 43 Come, dunque, Davide, ispirato, lo chiama Signore, dicendo: | 43 He said to them: “Then how can David, in the Spirit, call him Lord, saying: |
| 44 Il Signore ha detto al mio Signore: siedi alla mia destra, finchè abbia posto i tuoi nemici sotto i tuoi piedi? | 44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool?’ |
| 45 Se, dunque, Davide lo chiama Signore, come è suo figlio? ». | 45 So then, if David calls him Lord, how can he be his son?” |
| 46 E nessuno poteva rispondergli neppure una parola; e da quel giorno nessuno osò più interrogarlo. | 46 And no one was able to respond to him a word. And neither did anyone dare, from that day forward, to question him. |
