| 1 Allora Mosè e i figli di Israele cantarono questo cantico in onore di Jahvè e dissero: «Canto in onore di Jahvè, poiché è veramente sublime; cavalli e carri ha gettato nel mare. | 1 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, "I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea. |

| 7 Nella pienezza della tua maestà abbatti i tuoi avversari, scateni la tua ira e li divori come paglia. | 7 In the greatness of thy majesty thou overthrowest thy adversaries; thou sendest forth thy fury, it consumes them like stubble. |
| 8 Al soffio delle tue narici si accumularono le acque; i flutti si drizzarono come una fortezza, si condensarono gli abissi in mezzo al mare. | 8 At the blast of thy nostrils the waters piled up, the floods stood up in a heap; the deeps congealed in the heart of the sea. |
| 9 Disse il nemico: “Inseguirò, raggiungerò, dividerò il bottino, la mia brama si sazierà; sguainerò la mia spada, la mia mano li annienterà”. | 9 The enemy said, 'I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil, my desire shall have its fill of them. I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.' |

| 11 Chi è pari a te tra gli dèi, Jahvè? Chi è pari a te, glorioso in santità, terribile nelle gesta, operatore di prodigi? | 11 "Who is like thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, majestic in holiness, terrible in glorious deeds, doing wonders? |
| 12 Stendesti la destra: la terra li inghiottì. | 12 Thou didst stretch out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them. |
| 13 Con la tua bontà guidasti questo popolo che hai redento, con la tua forza lo conducesti alla tua santa dimora. | 13 "Thou hast led in thy steadfast love the people whom thou hast redeemed, thou hast guided them by thy strength to thy holy abode. |
| 14 Udirono i popoli, tremarono, i spasimi colpirono gli abitanti della Filistea, | 14 The peoples have heard, they tremble; pangs have seized on the inhabitants of Philistia. |
| 15 ne furono sconvolti i principi di Edom; il tremore colpì i capi di Moab; sbigottirono tutti gli abitanti di Canaan. | 15 Now are the chiefs of Edom dismayed; the leaders of Moab, trembling seizes them; all the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. |
| 16 Li assalga terrore e spavento; la potenza del tuo braccio li immobilizzi come sasso, finché non sia passato il tuo popolo, Jahvè, finché non sia passato questo popolo che tu hai creato. | 16 Terror and dread fall upon them; because of the greatness of thy arm, they are as still as a stone, till thy people, O LORD, pass by, till the people pass by whom thou hast purchased. |
| 17 Tu lo introdurrai e lo pianterai sul monte della tua eredità, luogo che hai preparato come tua abitazione, Jahvè; santuario, o Signore, che le tue mani hanno fondato. | 17 Thou wilt bring them in, and plant them on thy own mountain, the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thy abode, the sanctuary, O LORD, which thy hands have established. |
| 18 Jahvè regnerà in eterno e sempre». | 18 The LORD will reign for ever and ever." |
| 19 Quando, infatti, i cavalli del Faraone, i suoi carri e i suoi cavalieri entrarono in mare, Jahvè fece tornare su di loro le acque del mare, mentre i figli di Israele avevano camminato sul terreno asciutto, in mezzo al mare. | 19 For when the horses of Pharaoh with his chariots and his horsemen went into the sea, the LORD brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the people of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst of the sea. |

| 21 Allora Maria intonò per esse il coro: «Cantate in onore di Jahvè, poiché è veramente sublime: cavalli e carri ha gettato nel mare». | 21 And Miriam sang to them: "Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea." |
| 22 Mosè ordinò a Israele di levare le tende dal Mare dei Giunchi e avanzare verso il deserto di Shur. Dopo aver camminato tre giorni nel deserto senza trovare acqua, | 22 Then Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went into the wilderness of Shur; they went three days in the wilderness and found no water. |
| 23 giunsero a Mara, ma non poterono bere l’acqua di Mara poiché era amara: donde il nome Mara dato al luogo. | 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink the water of Marah because it was bitter; therefore it was named Marah. |
| 24 Il popolo mormorò contro Mosè: «Che beviamo?» | 24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, "What shall we drink?" |
| 25 Mosè mandò un grido d’aiuto a Jahvè e Jahvè gli indicò un legno. Egli lo gettò nell’acqua e l’acqua divenne dolce. Qui gli diede uno statuto e un diritto. Qui lo mise alla prova | 25 And he cried to the LORD; and the LORD showed him a tree, and he threw it into the water, and the water became sweet. There the LORD made for them a statute and an ordinance and there he proved them, |
| 26 e disse: «Se ascolterai fedelmente la voce di Jahvè tuo Dio e farai quanto è retto ai suoi occhi ascoltando i suoi precetti e osservando i suoi statuti, non ti infliggerò alcuna delle infermità che ho inflitto all’Egitto: poiché io sono Jahvè, colui che ti guarisce». | 26 saying, "If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD your God, and do that which is right in his eyes, and give heed to his commandments and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I put upon the Egyptians; for I am the LORD, your healer." |
| 27 Giunsero a Elim dove erano dodici fonti di acqua e settanta palme; qui si accamparono presso le acque. | 27 Then they came to Elim, where there were twelve springs of water and seventy palm trees; and they encamped there by the water. |
