Proverbios 3

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Hijo mío, no olvides mi lección, en tu corazón guarda mis mandatos,	1 My child, do not forget my teaching, let your heart keep my principles,
2 pues largos días y años de vida y bienestar te añadirán.	2 since they will increase your length of days, your years of life and your wel -being.
3 La piedad y la lealtad no te abandonen; átalas a tu cuello, escríbelas en la tablilla de tu corazón.	3 Let faithful love and constancy never leave you: tie them round your neck, write them on the tablet ofyour heart.
4 Así hallarás favor y buena acogida a los ojos de Dios y de los hombres.	4 Thus you will find favour and success in the sight of God and of people.
5 Confía en Yahveh de todo corazón y no te apoyes en tu propia inteligencia;	5 Trust wholeheartedly in Yahweh, put no faith in your own perception;
6 reconócele en todos tus caminos y él enderezará tus sendas.	6 acknowledge him in every course you take, and he wil see that your paths are smooth.
7 No seas sabio a tus propios ojos, teme a Yahveh y apártate del mal:	7 Do not congratulate yourself on your own wisdom, fear Yahweh and turn your back on evil:
8 medicina será para tu carne y regrigerio para tus huesos.	8 health-giving, this, to your body, relief to your bones.
9 Honra a Yahveh con tus riquezas, con las primicias de todas tus ganancias:	9 Honour Yahweh with what goods you have and with the first-fruits of al your produce;
10 tus trojes se llenarán de grano y rebosará de mosto tu lagar.	10 then your barns will be fil ed with corn, your vats overflowing with new wine.
11 No desdeñes, hijo mío, la instrucción de Yahveh, no te dé fastidio su reprensión,	11 My child, do not scorn correction from Yahweh, do not resent his reproof;
12 porque Yahveh reprende a aquel que ama, como un padre al hijo querido.	12 for Yahweh reproves those he loves, as a father the child whom he loves.
13 Dichoso el hombre que ha encontrado la sabiduría y el hombre que alcanza la prudencia;	13 Blessed are those who have discovered wisdom, those who have acquired understanding!
14 más vale su ganancia que la ganancia de plata, su renta es mayor que la del oro.	14 Gaining her is more rewarding than silver, her yield is more valuable than gold.
15 Más preciosa es que las perlas, nada de lo que amas se le iguala.	15 She is beyond the price of pearls, nothing you could covet is her equal.
16 Largos días a su derecha, y a su izquierda riqueza y gloria.	16 In her right hand is length of days; in her left hand, riches and honour.
17 Sus caminos son caminos de dulzura y todas sus sendas de bienestar.	17 Her ways are filled with delight, her paths al lead to contentment.
18 Es árbol de vida para los que a ella están asidos, felices son los que la abrazan.	18 She is a tree of life for those who hold her fast, those who cling to her live happy lives.
19 Con la Sabiduria fundó Yahveh la tierra, consolidó los cielos con inteligencia;	19 In wisdom, Yahweh laid the earth's foundations, in understanding he spread out the heavens.
20 con su ciencia se abrieron los océanos y las nubes destilan el rocío.	20 Through his knowledge the depths were cleft open, and the clouds distil the dew.
21 Hijo mío, guarda la prudencia y la reflexión, no se aparten nunca de tus ojos:	21 My child, hold to sound advice and prudence, never let them out of sight;
22 serán vida para tu alma y adorno para tu cuello.	22 they wil give life to your soul and beauty to your neck.
23 Así irás tranquilo por tu camino y no tropezará tu pie.	23 You wil go on your way in safety, your feet wil not stumble.
24 No tendrás miedo al acostarte, una vez acostado, será dulce tu sueño.	24 When you go to bed, you wil not be afraid; once in bed, your sleep will be sweet.
25 No temerás el espanto repentino, ni cuando llegue la tormenta de los malos,	25 Have no fear either of sudden terror or of attack mounted by wicked men,
26 porque Yahveh será tu tranquilidad y guardará tu pie de caer en el cepo.	26 since Yahweh will be your guarantor, he wil keep your steps from the snare.
27 No niegues un favor a quien es debido, si en tu mano está el hacérselo.	27 Refuse no kindness to those who have a right to it, if it is in your power to perform it.
28 No digas a tu prójimo: «Vete y vuelve, mañana te daré», si tienes algo en tu poder.	28 Do not say to your neighbour, 'Go away! Come another time! I will give it you tomorrow,' if you can do itnow.
29 No trames mal contra tu prójimo cuando se sienta confiado junto a ti.	29 Do not plot harm against your neighbour who is living unsuspecting beside you.
30 No te querelles contra nadie sin motivo, si no te ha hecho ningún mal.	30 Do not pick a groundless quarrel with anyone who has done you no harm.
31 No envidies al hombre violento, ni elijas ninguno de sus caminos;	31 Do not envy the man of violence, never model your conduct on his;
32 porque Yahveh abomina a los perversos, pero su intimidad la tiene con los rectos.	32 for the wilful wrong-doer is abhorrent to Yahweh, who confides only in the honest.
33 La maldición de Yahveh en la casa del malvado, en cambio bendice la mansión del justo.	33 Yahweh's curse lies on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the upright.
34 Con los arrogantes es también arrogante, otorga su favor a los pobres.	34 He mocks those who mock, but accords his favour to the humble.
35 La gloria es patrimonio de los sabios y los necios heredarán la ignominia.	35 Glory is the portion of the wise, all that fools inherit is contempt.
