Proverbios 21

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Corriente de agua es el corazón del rey en la mano de Yahveh, que él dirige donde quiere.	1 Like flowing water is a king's heart in Yahweh's hand; he directs it wherever he pleases.
2 Al hombre le parecen rectos todos sus caminos, pero es Yahveh quien pesa los corazones.	2 All actions are straight in the doer's own eyes, but it is Yahweh who weighs hearts.
3 Practicar la justicia y la equidad, es mejor ante Yahveh que el sacrificio.	3 To do what is upright and just is more pleasing to Yahweh than sacrifice.
4 Ojos altivos, corazón arrogante, antorcha de malvados, es pecado.	4 Haughty eye, proud heart, lamp of the wicked, nothing but sin.
5 Los proyectos del diligente, todo son ganancia; para el que se precipita, todo es indigencia.	5 The hardworking is thoughtful, and al is gain; too much haste, and all that comes of it is want.
6 Hacer tesoros con lengua engañosa, es vanidad fugitiva de quienes buscan la muerte.	6 To make a fortune with the help of a lying tongue: such is the idle fantasy of those who look for death.
7 La violencia de los malos los domina, porque se niegan a practicar la equidad.	7 The violence of the wicked proves their ruin, for they refuse to do what is right.
8 Tortuoso es el camino del hombre criminal, pero el puro es recto en sus obras.	8 The way of the felon is devious, the conduct of the innocent straight.
9 Mejor es vivir en la esquina del terrado, que casa en común con mujer litigiosa.	9 Better the corner of a roof to live on than a house shared with a quarrelsome woman.
10 El alma del malvado desea el mal, su vecino no halla gracia a sus ojos.	10 The soul of the wicked is intent on evil, to such a person no neighbour can ever do right.
11 Cuando se castiga al arrogante, el simple se hace sabio; cuando se instruye al sabio, adquiere ciencia.	11 When a cynic is punished, simpletons grow wiser, but someone of understanding acquires knowledgeby instruction.
12 El Justo observa la casa del malvado, y arroja a los malvados a la desgracia.	12 The Upright One watches the house of the wicked; he hurls the wicked to destruction.
13 Quien cierra los oídos a las súplicas del débil clamará también él y no hallará respuesta.	13 Whoever refuses to listen to the cry of the weak, wil in turn plead and not be heard.
14 Regalo a escondidas, aplaca la cólera, y obsequio oculto, la ira violenta.	14 Anger is mol ified by a covert gift, raging fury by a present under cover of the cloak.
15 Alegría para el justo es el cumplimiento de la justicia, pero horror para los que hacen el mal.	15 Doing what is right fills the upright with joy, but evil-doers with terror.
16 El hombre que se aparta del camino de la prudencia reposará en la asamblea de las sombras.	16 Whoever strays far from the way of prudence wil rest in the assembly of shadows.
17 Se arruina el hombre que ama el placer, no será rico el aficionado a banquetes.	17 Pleasure-lovers stay poor, no one wil grow rich who loves wine and good living.
18 Rescate del justo es el malo, y en lugar de los rectos, el traidor.	18 The wicked is a ransom for the upright; and the law-breaker for the honest.
19 Mejor es habitar en el desierto que con mujer litigiosa y triste.	19 Better to live in a desert land than with a quarrelsome and irritable woman.
20 Tesoro precioso y aceite en la casa del sabio, pero el hombre necio los devora.	20 The wise has valuables and oil at home, but a fool soon runs through both.
21 Quien va tras la justicia y el amor hallará vida, justicia y honor.	21 Whoever pursues uprightness and faithful love will find life, uprightness and honour.
22 El sabio escala la ciudad de los fuertes, y derriba la fortaleza en que confiaban.	22 A sage can scale a garrisoned city and shatter the rampart on which it relied.
23 El que guarda su boca y su lengua, guarda su alma de la angustia.	23 Watch kept over mouth and tongue keeps the watcher safe from disaster.
24 Al insolente y altivo se le llama: «arrogante»; actúa en el exceso de su insolencia.	24 Insolent, haughty -- the name is 'Cynic'; overweening pride marks such behaviour.
25 El deseo del perezoso le lleva a la muerte, porque sus manos rehúsan el trabajo.	25 The idler's desires are the death of him, since his hands wil do no work.
26 Todo el día está el malo codicioso; pero el justo da sin rehusar jamás.	26 Al day long the godless is racked by desire, the upright gives without ever refusing.
27 El sacrificio de los malos es abominable, sobre todo si se ofrece con mala intención.	27 The sacrifice of the wicked is abhorrent, above al if it is offered for bad motives.
28 El testigo falso perecerá, el hombre que escucha, por siempre podrá hablar.	28 The false witness wil perish, but no one who knows how to listen wil ever be silenced.
29 El hombre malo se muestra atrevido, el recto afianza su camino.	29 The wicked man's strength shows on his face, but the honest it is whose steps are firm.
30 No hay sabiduría, ni hay prudencia ni hay consejo, delante de Yahveh.	30 No wisdom, no understanding, no advice is worth anything before Yahweh.
31 Se prepara el caballo para el día del combate, pero la victoria es de Yahveh.	31 Fit out the cavalry for the day of battle, but the victory is Yahweh's.
