BIBLIA	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Proverbios de Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel:	1 The Proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
2 para aprender sabiduría e instrucción, para entender los discursos profundos,	2 That men may appreciate wisdom and discipline, may understand words of intelligence;
3 para alcanzar intrucción y perspicacia, - justicia, equidad y rectitud -,	3 May receive training in wise conduct, in what is right, just and honest;
4 para enseñar a los simples la prudencia, a los jóvenes ciencia y reflexión,	4 That resourcefulness may be imparted to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.
5 Que atienda el sabio y crecerá en doctrina, y el inteligente aprenderá a hacer proyectos.	5 A wise man by hearing them will advance in learning, an intelligent man will gain sound guidance,
6 para descifrar proverbios y enigmas, los dichos de los sabios y sus adivinanzas.	6 That he may comprehend proverb and parable, the words of the wise and their riddles.
7 El temor de Yahveh es el principio de la ciencia; los necios desprecian la sabiduría y la instrucción.	7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; wisdom and instruction fools despise.
8 Escucha, hijo mío, la instrucción de tu padre y no desprecies la lección de tu madre:	8 Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and reject not your mother's teaching;
9 corona graciosa son para tu cabeza y un collar para tu cuello.	9 A graceful diadem will they be for your head; a torque for your neck.
10 Hijo mío, si los pecadores te quieren seducir, no vayas.	10 My son, should sinners entice you,
11 Si te dicen: «¡Vente con nosotros, estemos al acecho para derramar sangre, apostémonos contra el inocente sin motivo alguno,	11 and say, "Come along with us! Let us lie in wait for the honest man, let us, unprovoked, set a trap for the innocent;
12 devorémoslos vivos como el seol, enteros como los que bajan a la fosa!;	12 Let us swallow them up, as the nether world does, alive, in the prime of life, like those who go down to the pit!
13 ¡hallaremos toda clase de riquezas, llenaremos nuestras casas de botín,	13 All kinds of precious wealth shall we gain, we shall fill our houses with booty;
14 te tocará tu parte igual que a nosotros, para todos habrá bolsa común!»:	14 Cast in your lot with us, we shall all have one purse!"--
15 no te pongas, hijo mío, en camino con ellos, tu pie detén ante su senda,	15 My son, walk not in the way with them, hold back your foot from their path!
16 porque sus pies corren hacia el mal y a derramar sangre se apresuran;	16 (For their feet run to evil, they hasten to shed blood.)
17 pues es inútil tender la red a los ojos mismos de los pajarillos.	17 It is in vain that a net is spread before the eyes of any bird--
18 Contra su propia sangre están acechando, apostados están contra sus propias vidas.	18 These men lie in wait for their own blood, they set a trap for their own lives.
19 Esa es la senda de todo el que se entrega a la rapiña: ella quita la vida a su propio dueño.	19 This is the fate of everyone greedy of loot: unlawful gain takes away the life of him who acquires it.
20 La Sabiduría clama por las calles, por las plazas alza su voz,	20 Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the open squares she raises her voice;
21 llama en la esquina de las calles concurridas, a la entrada de las puertas de la ciudad pronuncia sus discursos:	21 Down the crowded ways she calls out, at the city gates she utters her words:
22 «¿Hasta cuándo, simples, amaréis vuestra simpleza y arrogantes os gozaréis en la arrogancia y necios tendréis odio a la ciencia?	22 "How long, you simple ones, will you love inanity,
23 Convertíos por mis reprensiones: voy a derramar mi espíritu para vosotros, os voy a comunicar mis palabras.	23 how long will you turn away at my reproof? Lo! I will pour out to you my spirit, I will acquaint you with my words.
24 Ya que os he llamado y no habéis querido, he tendido mi mano y nadie ha prestado atención,	24 "Because I called and you refused, I extended my hand and no one took notice;
25 habéis despreciado todos mis consejos, no habéis hecho caso de mis reprensiones;	25 Because you disdained all my counsel, and my reproof you ignored--
26 también yo me reiré de vuestra desgracia, me burlaré cuando llegue vuestro espanto,	26 I, in my turn, will laugh at your doom; I will mock when terror overtakes you;
27 cuando llegue, como huracán, vuestro espanto, vuestra desgracia sobrevenga como torbellino, cuando os alcancen la angustia y la tribulación.	27 When terror comes upon you like a storm, and your doom approaches like a whirlwind; when distress and anguish befall you.
28 Entonces me llamarán y no responderé, me buscarán y no me hallarán.	28 "Then they call me, but I answer not; they seek me, but find me not;
29 Porque tuvieron odio a la ciencia y no eligieron el temor de Yahveh,	29 Because they hated knowledge, and chose not the fear of the LORD;
30 no hicieron caso de mi consejo, ni admitieron de mí ninguna reprensión;	30 They ignored my counsel, they spurned all my reproof; And in their arrogance they preferred arrogance, and like fools they hated knowledge:
31 comerán del fruto de su conducta, de sus propios consejos se hartarán.	31 "Now they must eat the fruit of their own way, and with their own devices be glutted.
32 Su propio descarrío matará a los simples, la despreocupación perderá a los insensatos.	32 For the self-will of the simple kills them, the smugness of fools destroys them.
33 Pero el que me escucha vivirá seguro, tranquilo, sin temor a la desgracia».	33 But he who obeys me dwells in security, in peace, without fear of harm."
