NOVA VULGATANEW JERUSALEM
1 “ Quis credidit auditui nostro,
et brachium Domini cui revelatum est?
1 Who has given credence to what we have heard? And who has seen in it a revelation of Yahweh'sarm?
2 Et ascendit sicut virgultum coram eo
et sicut radix de terra sitienti.
Non erat species ei neque decor, ut aspiceremus eum,
et non erat aspectus, ut desideraremus eum.
2 Like a sapling he grew up before him, like a root in arid ground. He had no form or charm to attract us,no beauty to win our hearts;
3 Despectus erat et novissimus virorum,
vir dolorum et sciens infirmitatem,
et quasi abscondebamus vultum coram eo;
despectus, unde nec reputabamus eum.
3 he was despised, the lowest of men, a man of sorrows, familiar with suffering, one from whom, as itwere, we averted our gaze, despised, for whom we had no regard.
4 Vere languores nostros ipse tulit
et dolores nostros ipse portavit;
et nos putavimus eum quasi plagatum,
percussum a Deo et humiliatum.
4 Yet ours were the sufferings he was bearing, ours the sorrows he was carrying, while we thought of himas someone being punished and struck with affliction by God;
5 Ipse autem vulneratus est propter iniquitates nostras,
attritus est propter scelera nostra;
disciplina pacis nostrae super eum,
et livore eius sanati sumus.
5 whereas he was being wounded for our rebel ions, crushed because of our guilt; the punishmentreconciling us fel on him, and we have been healed by his bruises.
6 Omnes nos quasi oves erravimus,
unusquisque in viam suam declinavit;
et posuit Dominus in eo
iniquitatem omnium nostrum ”.
6 We had al gone astray like sheep, each taking his own way, and Yahweh brought the acts of rebellionof al of us to bear on him.
7 Afflictus est et ipse subiecit se
et non aperuit os suum;
sicut agnus, qui ad occisionem ducitur,
et quasi ovis, quae coram tondentibus se obmutuit
et non aperuit os suum.
7 Il -treated and afflicted, he never opened his mouth, like a lamb led to the slaughter-house, like a sheepdumb before its shearers he never opened his mouth.
8 Angustia et iudicio sublatus est.
De generatione eius quis curabit?
Quia abscissus est de terra viventium;
propter scelus populi mei percussus est ad mortem.
8 Forcibly, after sentence, he was taken. Which of his contemporaries was concerned at his having beencut off from the land of the living, at his having been struck dead for his people's rebel ion?
9 Et posuerunt sepulcrum eius cum impiis,
cum divitibus tumulum eius,
eo quod iniquitatem non fecerit,
neque dolus fuerit in ore eius.
9 He was given a grave with the wicked, and his tomb is with the rich, although he had done no violence,had spoken no deceit.
10 Et Dominus voluit conterere eum infirmitate.
Si posuerit in piaculum animam suam,
videbit semen longaevum,
et voluntas Domini in manu eius prosperabitur.
10 It was Yahweh's good pleasure to crush him with pain; if he gives his life as a sin offering, he wil seehis offspring and prolong his life, and through him Yahweh's good pleasure wil be done.
11 Propter laborem animae eius
videbit lucem, saturabitur in scientia sua.
Iustificabit iustus servus meus multos
et iniquitates eorum ipse portabit.
11 After the ordeal he has endured, he wil see the light and be content. By his knowledge, the uprightone, my servant wil justify many by taking their guilt on himself.
12 Ideo dispertiam ei multos,
et cum fortibus dividet spolia,
pro eo quod tradidit in mortem animam suam
et cum sceleratis reputatus est;
et ipse peccatum multorum tulit
et pro transgressoribus rogat.
12 Hence I shall give him a portion with the many, and he wil share the booty with the mighty, for havingexposed himself to death and for being counted as one of the rebel ious, whereas he was bearing the sin ofmany and interceding for the rebel ious.
