1 Ho detto a voi queste cose, affinchè non siate scandalizzati.	1 I have told you al this so that you may not fal away.
2 Vi cacceranno dalle Sinagoghe: anzi verrà tempo, che chi v'ucciderà, si creda di rendere onore a Dio:	2 They wil expel you from the synagogues, and indeed the time is coming when anyone who kills youwil think he is doing a holy service to God.
3 E vi tratteranno così; perché mi hanno conosciuto né il Padre, né me.	3 They wil do these things because they have never known either the Father or me.
4 Ma vi ho dette queste cose, affinchè venuto quel tempo vi ricordiate, che io ve le ho dette.	4 But I have told you all this, so that when the time for it comes you may remember that I told you. I didnot tell you this from the beginning, because I was with you;
5 Non vi ho però detto questo in principio, perché io era con voi: ora poi vo a lui, che mi ha mandato, e nissuno di voi mi domanda: Dove vai tu?	5 but now I am going to the one who sent me. Not one of you asks, 'Where are you going?'
6 Ma perché vi ho dette queste cose, la tristezza ha ripieno il vostro cuore.	6 Yet you are sad at heart because I have told you this.
7 Ma io vi dico il vero: Espediente per voi, che io men vada: perché se io non me ne vo, non verrà a voi il Paracleto; ma quando me ne sarò andato, ve lo manderò.	7 Stil , I am telling you the truth: it is for your own good that I am going, because unless I go, theParaclete wil not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
8 E venuto, ch'egli sia, sarà convinto il mondo riguardo al peccato, riguardo alla giustizia, e riguardo al giudizio:	8 And when he comes, he wil show the world how wrong it was, about sin, and about who was in theright, and about judgement:
9 Riguardo al peccato, perché non credono in me:	9 about sin: in that they refuse to believe in me;
10 Riguardo alla giustizia, perché io vo al Padre, e già non mi vedrete:	10 about who was in the right: in that I am going to the Father and you will see me no more;
11 Riguardo al giudizio poi, perché il Principe di questo mondo è già stato giudicato.	11 about judgement: in that the prince of this world is already condemned.
12 Molte cose ho ancora da dirvi; ma non ne siete capaci adesso.	12 I still have many things to say to you but they would be too much for you to bear now.
13 Ma venuto che sia quello Spirito di verità, vi insegnerà tutte le verità: imperocché non vi parlerà da se stesso; ma dirà tutto quello, che avrà udito, e vi annuncerà quello, che ha da essere.	13 However, when the Spirit of truth comes he will lead you to the complete truth, since he wil not bespeaking of his own accord, but wil say only what he has been told; and he wil reveal to you the things to come.
14 Egli mi glorificherà: perché egli riceverà del mio, e ve lo annunzierà.	14 He wil glorify me, since al he reveals to you wil be taken from what is mine.
15 Tutto quel, che ha il Padre, è mio. Per questo ho detto, che egli riceverà del mio, e ve lo annunzierà.	15 Everything the Father has is mine; that is why I said: all he reveals to you wil be taken from what ismine.
16 Un pochettino, e non mi vedrete: e di nuovo un pochettino, e mi vedrete: perché io vo al Padre.	16 In a short time you will no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again.
17 disser però tra loro alcuni de' suoi discepoli: Che è quello, che egli ci dice: Non andrà molto, e non mi vedrete: e di poi, non andrà molto, e mi vedrete, e me ne vo al Padre?	17 Then some of his disciples said to one another, 'What does he mean, "In a short time you wil nolonger see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again," and, "I am going to the Father"?
18 Dicevano adunque: Che è questo, che egli dice, Un pochettino? Non intendiamo quel, che egli dica?	18 What is this "short time"? We don't know what he means.'
19 Conobbe pertanto Gesù, che bramavano d'interrogarlo, e disse loro: Voi andate investigando tra di voi perché io abbia detto: Non andrà molto, e non mi vedrete: e di poi, non andrà molto, e mi vedrete.	19 Jesus knew that they wanted to question him, so he said, 'You are asking one another what I meantby saying, "In a short time you wil no longer see me, and then a short time later you wil see me again."
20 In verità, in verità vi dico, che piangerete, e gemerete voi; il mondo poi goderà: voi sarete in tristezza, e la vostra tristezza si cangerà in gaudio.	20 'In al truth I tell you, you wil be weeping and wailing while the world wil rejoice; you will be sorrowful,but your sorrow wil turn to joy.
21 La donna, allorché partorisce è in tristezza, perché è giunto il suo tempo: quando poi ha dato alla luce il bambino, non si ricorda più dell'affanno a motivo dell'allegrezza; perché è nato al mondo un uomo.	21 A woman in childbirth suffers, because her time has come; but when she has given birth to the childshe forgets the suffering in her joy that a human being has been born into the world.
22 E voi adunque siete pur adesso in tristezza; ma vi vedrò di bel nuovo, e gioirà il vostro cuore, e nissuno vi torrà il vostro gaudio.	22 So it is with you: you are sad now, but I shal see you again, and your hearts wil be ful of joy, andthat joy no one shal take from you.
23 E in quel giorno non mi interrogherete di alcuna cosa. In verità, in verità vi dico, che qualunque cosa domandiate al Padre nel nome mio, ve la concederà.	23 When that day comes, you will not ask me any questions. In all truth I tel you, anything you ask fromthe Father he wil grant in my name.
24 Fino adesso non avete chiesto cosa nel nome mio: chiedete, e otterrete, affinchè il vostro gaudio sia compito.	24 Until now you have not asked anything in my name. Ask and you wil receive, and so your joy wil becomplete.
25 Ho dette a voi queste cose per via di proverbj. Ma viene il tempo, che non vi parlerò più per via di proverbj. Ma apertamente vi favellerò intorno al Padre.	25 I have been tel ing you these things in veiled language. The hour is coming when I shall no longerspeak to you in veiled language but tell you about the Father in plain words.
26 In quel giorno chiederete nel nome mio: e non vi dico, che pregherò io il Padre per voi:	26 When that day comes you wil ask in my name; and I do not say that I shal pray to the Father for you,
27 Imperocché lo stesso Padre vi ama; perché avete amato me, e avete creduto, che sono uscito dal Padre.	27 because the Father himself loves you for loving me, and believing that I came from God.
28 Uscii dal Padre, e venni al mondo: abbandono di nuovo il mondo, e vo al Padre.	28 I came from the Father and have come into the world and now I am leaving the world to go to theFather.'
29 Gli distero i suoi discepoli: Ecco, che ora parli chiaramente, e non fai uso d'alcun proverbio.	29 His disciples said, 'Now you are speaking plainly and not using veiled language.
30 Adesso conosciamo, che tu sai tutto, e non hai bisogno, che alcuno ti interroghi: per questo crediamo, che tu sei venuto da Dio.	30 Now we see that you know everything and need not wait for questions to be put into words; becauseof this we believe that you came from God.'
31 Rispose Gesù: Adesso credete?	31 Jesus answered them: Do you believe at last?
32 Ecco che viene il tempo: anzi è venuto, che siate dispersi ciascuno nel suo luogo, e mi lasciate solo; ma non son solo, perché è con meco il Padre.	32 Listen; the time wil come -- indeed it has come already -- when you are going to be scattered, eachgoing his own way and leaving me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33 Tali cose vi ho dette, affinchè in me abbiate pace. Nel mondo sarete angustiati; ma abbiate fidanza: io ho vinto il mondo.	33 I have told you al this so that you may find peace in me. In the world you wil have hardship, but becourageous: I have conquered the world.
