BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Venuti adunque quelli di Cariatiarim, menarono via l'arca e la portarono nella casa di Abinadab, in Gabaa, e santificarono il figlio di lui Eleazaro, affinchè custodisse l'arca del Signore.	1 The men of Kiriath-Jearim came and, taking up the ark of Yahweh, brought it to the house of Abinadabon the hil , and consecrated his son Eleazar to guard the ark of Yahweh.
2 Dal dì in cui l'arca del Signore era stata collocata in Cariatiarim erano scorsi molti giorni, vent'anni, e tutta la casa di Israele riposava dietro al Signore,	2 From the day when the ark was instal ed at Kiriath-Jearim, a long time went by -- twenty years -- andthe whole House of Israel longed for Yahweh.
3 quando Samuele parlò a tutta la casa d'Israele e disse: « Se è di tutto cuore che tornate al Signore, togliete di mezzo a voi gli dèi stranieri, i Baalim e le Astarot: preparate i vostri cuori al Signore e servite a lui solo, ed egli vi libererà dalle mani dei Filistei ».	3 Samuel then spoke as follows to the whole House of Israel, 'If you are returning to Yahweh with al yourheart, banish the foreign gods and Astartes which you now have, and set your heart on Yahweh and serve himalone; and he will deliver you from the power of the Philistines.'
4 Allora i figli d'Israele tolsero via i Baalim e le Astarot e servirono soltanto al Signore.	4 And the Israelites banished the Baals and Astartes and served Yahweh alone.
5 Poi Samuele disse: « Radunate tutto Israele in Masfat, affinchè io preghi il Signore per voi ».	5 Samuel then said, 'Muster al Israel at Mizpah and I shal plead with Yahweh for you.'
6 E si radunarono in Masfat, e, attinta dell'acqua, la sparsero dinanzi al Signore, e quel giorno stettero digiuni a dire: « Abbiamo peccato contro il Signore ». E Samuele giudicò Israele in Masfat.	6 So they mustered at Mizpah and drew water and poured it out before Yahweh. They fasted that dayand declared, 'We have sinned against Yahweh.' And Samuel was judge over the Israelites at Mizpah.
7 Avendo saputo i Filistei che i figli d'Israele s'erano adunati in Masfat, i satrapi dei Filistei salirono contro Israele; e i figli d'Israele udito ciò, temendo dei Filistei,	7 When the Philistines heard that the Israelites had mustered at Mizpah, the Philistine chiefs marched onIsrael; and when the Israelites heard this, they were afraid of the Philistines.
8 dissero a Samuele: «Non cessar di gridare per noi al Signore Dio nostro, affinchè ci salvi dalle mani dei Filistei ».	8 They said to Samuel, 'Do not stop cal ing on Yahweh our God to rescue us from the power of thePhilistines.'
9 E Samuele, preso un agnello di latte, l'offerse intero in olocausto al Signore, e Samuele gridò al Signore per Israele; e il Signore l'esaudì.	9 Samuel took a sucking lamb and presented it as a burnt offering to Yahweh, and he cal ed on Yahwehon behalf of Israel and Yahweh heard him.
10 Qr mentre Samuele offriva l'olocausto al Signore, i Filistei cominciarono la battaglia contro Israele, ma il Signore con grande fracasso in quel giorno tonò sopra i Filistei, e li atterrì in modo che essi furono fatti a pezzi da Israele.	10 While Samuel was in the act of presenting burnt offering, the Philistines joined battle with Israel, butthat day Yahweh thundered violently over the Philistines, threw them into panic and Israel defeated them.
11 I figli d'Israele, usciti di Masfat, inseguirono i Filistei e li percossero fino al di sotto di Betcar.	11 The men of Israel sal ied out from Mizpah in pursuit of the Philistines and beat them al the way tobelow Beth-Car.
12 Samuele prese poi una pietra e la pose tra Masfat e Sen, e diede a quel luogo il nome di Pietra del soccorso, dicendo: « Sin qui ci ha soccorsi il Signore ».	12 Samuel then took a stone and erected it between Mizpah and the Tooth, and gave it the nameEbenezer, saying, 'Yahweh helped us as far as this.'
13 Così umiliati i Filistei non ardiron più di entrare nei confini d'Israele. E la mano del Signore fu sopra i Filistei per tutto il tempo di Samuele,	13 So the Philistines were humbled and no longer came into Israelite territory; Yahweh oppressed thePhilistines throughout the life of Samuel.
14 Furono inoltre restituite ad Israele le città che i Filistei gli avevan tolte, da Accaron fino a Get, coi loro territori. Così Samuele liberò Israele dalla mano dei Filistei, mentre vi era pace tra Israele e l'Amorreo.	14 The towns which the Philistines had taken from Israel were given back to Israel, from Ekron al theway to Gath, and Israel freed their territory from the power of the Philistines. There was peace, too, betweenIsrael and the Amorites.
15 Samuele giudicò Israele per tutti i giorni della sua vita;	15 Samuel was judge over Israel throughout his life.
16 e andando ogni anno in giro a Betel, a Galgala e a Masfat, giudicava Israele nei detti luoghi,	16 Each year he went on circuit through Bethel and Gilgal and Mizpah and judged Israel in al theseplaces.
17 poi ritornava a Ramata, ove era la sua casa, dove pure giudicava Israele,dove aveva anche eretto un altare al Signore.	17 He would then return to Ramah, since his home was there; there too he judged Israel. And there hebuilt an altar to Yahweh.
