Seconda lettera ai Corinzi 2

1 Ho determinato dentro di me di non tornare da voi per rattristarvi.	1 I made up my mind, then, that my next visit to you would not be a painful one,
2 Perchè se io vi contristo, chi è che mi dovrà rallegrare, se non chi è stato da me contristato?	2 for if I cause you distress I am causing distress to my only possible source of joy.
3 Io vi scrissi in quella maniera, perchè, venendo, non abbia a ricevere tristezza sopra tristezza da quelli che mi dovrebbero dare dei contenti, fiducioso che per voi tutti la mia gioia è gioia di tutti voi.	3 Indeed, I wrote as I did precisely to spare myself distress when I visited you, from the very people whoshould have given me joy, in the conviction that for al of you my joy was yours too.
4 Inoltre, se vi scrissi con grande afflizione, con angoscia di cuore e con molte lacrime, non fu per contristarvi, ma per farvi conoscere il grandissimo affetto che ho per voi.	4 I wrote to you in agony of mind, not meaning to cause you distress but to show you how very much loveI have for you.
5 Se qualcuno è stato cagione di tristezza, non contristò me solo, ma anche parte di voi, in modo da non potervi rimproverare tutti.	5 If anyone did cause distress, he caused it not to me, but -- not to exaggerate -- in some degree to al ofyou.
6 Basta a quel tale la riprensione fatta dalla maggioranza;	6 The punishment already imposed by the majority was quite enough for such a person;
7 quindi ora è meglio che gli perdoniate e lo consoliate, affinchè non soccomba per eccessiva tristezza.	7 and now by contrast you should forgive and encourage him all the more, or he may be overwhelmed bythe extent of his distress.
8 Perciò vi prego di confermargli la vostra carità.	8 That is why I urge you to give your love towards him definite expression.
9 Perchè vi ho scritto anche per conoscere alla prova se siete in tutto obbedienti.	9 This was in fact my reason for writing, to test your quality and whether you are completely obedient.
10 Or con chi avete usato indulgenza, la uso anch'io; infatti l'indulgenza che ho usata (se n'ho usata un po') l'ho usata per amor vostro e in nome di Cristo	10 But if you forgive anybody, then I too forgive that person; and whatever I have forgiven, if there isanything I have forgiven, I have done it for your sake in Christ's presence,
11 per non essere sopraffatti da Satana, di cui non ignoriamo le macchinazioni.	11 to avoid being outwitted by Satan, whose scheming we know only too well.
12 Or quando giunsi a Troade pel Vangelo di Cristo, sebbene una porta mi fosse aperta dal Signore,	12 When I came to Troas for the sake of the gospel of Christ and a door was opened for me there in theLord,
13 non ebbi requie nel mio spirito, per non avervi trovato il mio fratello Tito; e dopo aver salutati i fratelli partii per la Macedonia.	13 I had no relief from anxiety, not finding my brother Titus there, and I said goodbye to them and wenton to Macedonia.
14 Ma grazie sian rese a Dio che ci fa sempre trionfare in Cristo Gesù, e per mezzo nostro spande in ogni luogo il profumo della sua conoscenza.	14 But, thanks be to God who always gives us in Christ a part in his triumphal procession, and through usis spreading everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of himself.
15 Noi siamo infatti davanti a Dio il buon odore di Cristo per quelli che si salvano e per quelli che si perdono:	15 To God we are the fragrance of Christ, both among those who are being saved and among those whoare on the way to destruction;
16 per questi un odore di morte che dà la morte; per Quelli un odore di vita che dà la vita. E per tali cose chi è che sia di noi più adatto?	16 for these last, the smel of death leading to death, but for the first, the smel of life leading to life. Whois equal to such a task?
17 Infatti noi non siamo come tanti e tanti che adulterano la parola di Dio, ma nella sua purezza, come viene da Dio, la predichiamo davanti a Dio, in Cristo.	17 At least we do not adulterate the word of God, as so many do, but it is in al purity, as envoys of Godand in God's presence, that we speak in Christ.
