Lettera ai Romani 13

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ogni persona sia sottomessa alle autorità superiori, perchè non v'è autorità che non venga da Dio, e quelle che esistono sono istituite da Dio;	1 Everyone is to obey the governing authorities, because there is no authority except from God and sowhatever authorities exist have been appointed by God.
2 e quindi chi si oppone alle autorità si oppone all'ordine di Dio, e chi si ribella si attirerà la condanna;	2 So anyone who disobeys an authority is rebel ing against God's ordinance; and rebels must expect toreceive the condemnation they deserve.
3 infatti i magistrati non son da temere per le opere buone, ma per le malvage. Vuoi tu non aver paura dell'autorità? Fa il bene, e da essa ne avrai lode,	3 Magistrates bring fear not to those who do good, but to those who do evil. So if you want to live withno fear of authority, live honestly and you wil have its approval;
4 essendo l'autorità ministra di Dio per il tuo bene. Se poi fai del male, temi, perchè non porta invano la spada, quale ministra di Dio vendicatrice, che punisce i malfattori.	4 it is there to serve God for you and for your good. But if you do wrong, then you may wel be afraid;because it is not for nothing that the symbol of authority is the sword: it is there to serve God, too, as hisavenger, to bring retribution to wrongdoers.
5 E' necessario dunque esser sottomessi, non solo per timore del castigo, ma anche per obbligo di coscienza.	5 You must be obedient, therefore, not only because of this retribution, but also for conscience's sake.
6 Per questa ragione voi pagate i tributi, perchè i magistrati sono ministri di Dio e continuamente occupati nel loro ufficio.	6 And this is why you should pay taxes, too, because the authorities are al serving God as his agents,even while they are busily occupied with that particular task.
7 Rendete dunque a ciascuno ciò che gli dovete: a chi l'imposta, l'imposta; a chi il tributo, il tributo; a chi il rispetto il rispetto; a chi l'onore, l'onore.	7 Pay to each one what is due to each: taxes to the one to whom tax is due, tol s to the one to whomtol s are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honour to the one to whom honour is due.
8 Non vi resti con nessuno che il debito dello scambievole amore; perchè chi ama il prossimo ha adempito la legge.	8 The only thing you should owe to anyone is love for one another, for to love the other person is tofulfil the law.
9 Difatti, « non commettere adulterio; non ammazzare, non rubare, non dire il falso testimonio; non desiderare » e qualunque altro comandamento che ci possa essere, si riassume in questa parola: «Amerai il prossimo tuo come te stesso ».	9 Al these: You shal not commit adultery, You shal not kil , You shal not steal, You shal not covet,and all the other commandments that there are, are summed up in this single phrase: You must love yourneighbour as yourself.
10 L'amore non fa alcun male al prossimo: è dunque l'amore il compimento della legge.	10 Love can cause no harm to your neighbour, and so love is the fulfilment of the Law.
11 E ciò dovete farlo riflettendo al tempo in cui siamo, essendo già l'ora di svegliarsi dal sonno; perchè la nostra salvezza è più vicina ora di quanto credemmo.	11 Besides, you know the time has come; the moment is here for you to stop sleeping and wake up,because by now our salvation is nearer than when we first began to believe.
12 La notte è inoltrata e il giorno si avvicina: gettiam dunque via le opere delle tenebre e indossiamo le armi della luce.	12 The night is nearly over, daylight is on the way; so let us throw off everything that belongs to thedarkness and equip ourselves for the light.
13 Viviamo onestamente, come di giorno; non nelle crapule e nelle ubriachezze; non nelle mollezze e nell'impudicizia; non nella discordia e nella gelosia;	13 Let us live decently, as in the light of day; with no orgies or drunkenness, no promiscuity orlicentiousness, and no wrangling or jealousy.
14 ma rivestitevi del Signore Gesù Cristo, senza aver tanta cura della carne da svegliarne le concupiscenze.	14 Let your armour be the Lord Jesus Christ, and stop worrying about how your disordered naturalinclinations may be fulfil ed.
