Ester 15

1 E le mandò a dire (certamente Mardocheo a Ester) che si presentasse al re, e lo pregasse pel suo popolo e per la sua patria.	1 Truly, king Artaxerxes made all the land, and all the islands of the sea, tributaries.
2 « Ricordati, le disse, dei giorni del tuo basso stato, come fosti nutrita dalla mia mano. Avendo Aman, che è il secondo dopo il re, parlato contro di noi per sterminarci,	2 And his strength and his authority, and the dignity and supremacy with which he exalted Mordecai, have been written in the books of the Medes and the Persians,
3 tu, invocato il Signore, parla per noi al re e liberaci dalla morte ». 4 Il terzo giorno, Ester, deposte le vesti di penitenza, si ammantò della sua gloria.	4 And Mordecai said, “By God have these things been done.
5 E nello splendore dell'abbigliamento reale, dopo avere invocato Dio, arbitro e salvatore di tutti, prese con sé due damigelle.	5 I remember a dream that I saw, which signified these same things, and nothing of this whatsoever has failed to occur.
6 Si appoggiava ad una di esse, quasi non potesse sostenere il suo corpo, a motivo della sua delicatezza e debolezza estrema;	6 The little fountain which grew into a river, and had turned into light and into the sun, and overflowed into many waters, is Esther, whom the king received as wife and whom he preferred to be queen.
7 l'altra delle damigelle seguiva la sua signora, e ne reggeva le vesti, che strascicavamo per terra.	7 But the two dragons are I and Haman.
8 Ma essa, nel volto soffuso di rosa, negli occhi graziosi e brillanti, nascondeva l'animo afflitto e oppresso dalla gran paura.	8 The peoples who gathered together are those who had attempted to erase the name of the Jews.
9 Passate successivamente tutte le porte, si presentò dinanzi al re, che stava assiso sul suo soglio reale, coperto del regio ammanto, folgoreggiante per l'oro e per le pietre preziose; il suo aspetto era terribile.	9 And my people is Israel, who cried out to the Lord, and the Lord brought salvation to his people, and he freed us from all evils, and he created great signs and portents among the nations.
10 Sìccome egli, alzato lo sguardo, mostrò negli occhi ardenti il furore dell'animo, la regina svenne, e, divenuta pallida pallida, piegò la vacillante testa sopra la damigella.	10 And he commanded there to be two lots, one for the people of God and the other for all the nations.
11 Ma Dio volse a clemenza il cuore del re, il quale subito, spaventato, balzò dal suo trono, e sorreggendola sulle sue braccia, finché non si fu riavuta, si mise ad accarezzarla, dicendole queste parole:	11 And both lots arrived at the day appointed before God, even from that past time, for all peoples.
12 « Che hai, o Ester? Io sono tuo fratello: non temere.	12 And the Lord remembered his people and had mercy on his inheritance.
13 Tu non morrai; perchè questa legge è fatta per tutti gli altri, non per te.	13 And these days shall be observed in the month of Adar, on the fourteenth and fifteenth day of the same month, with all zealousness and joy, by the people gathered together into one union, throughout all the generations hereafter of the people of Israel.”
14 Su, accostati, tocca lo scettro ».	14 In the fourth year of the reigns of Ptolemy and Cleopatra, Dositheus, who was himself a priest and born of the Levites, and Ptolemy his son, brought this epistle of Purim, which they said was a translation by Lysimachus the son of Ptolemy in Jerusalem.
15 Ma essa non fiatava. Allora prese lo scettro e glielo pose sul collo, e la baciò e disse: « Perchè non mi parli? »
16 Ester rispose: « Io ti ho visto, o signore, come un angelo di Dio, e il mio cuore è restato turbato dal timore della tua gloria.
17 Davvero, tu sei oltremodo ammirabile, o signore, e la tua faccia è piena di grazie ».
18 Mentre così parlava svenne di nuovo, perdendo quasi ogni sentimento.
19 Il re n'era impensierito e tutti i suoi ministri cercavan di consolarla.
