1 Ioas cominciò a regnare l'anno settimo di Iehu, e regnò quarantanni in Gerusalemme; sua madre si chiamava Sebia di Bersabea.	1 Joash was seven years old when he became king.
2 Ioas, per tutto il tempo che Ioiada lo ammaestrò, fece quel che era giusto nel cospetto del Signore;	2 Joash began to reign in the seventh year of Jehu, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother, who was named Zibiah, was from Beer-sheba.
3 ma non tolse via gli alti luoghi, e il popolo seguitava ad immolare e a bruciare incenso sugli alti luoghi.	3 Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD as long as he lived, because the priest Jehoiada guided him.
4 Ioas disse ai sacerdoti: « Tutto il denaro delle cose sacre, quello portato nel tempio del Signore dai passanti, quello offerto pel prezzo d'un'anima, quello portato nel tempio del Signore spontaneamente e per libera elezione,	4 Still, the high places did not disappear; the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense there.
5 i sacerdoti lo ricevano secondo il loro ordine, e facciano i restauri della casa ove v'è bisogno di restauro ».	5 For the priests Joash made this rule: "All the funds for sacred purposes that are brought to the temple of the LORD--the census tax, personal redemption money, and whatever funds are freely brought to the temple of the LORD--
6 Ma fino all'anno ventesimo terzo del re Ioas i sacerdoti non fecero i restauri del tempio.	6 the priests may take for themselves, each from his own clients. However, they must make whatever repairs on the temple may prove necessary."
7 Allora il re Ioas chiamò Ioiada pontefice e i sacerdoti, e disse loro: « Perchè non fate i restauri del tempio? Or dunque non prendete più il danaro secondo il vostro ordine; ma rendetelo pel restauro del tempio ».	7 Nevertheless, as late as the twenty-third year of the reign of King Joash, the priests had not made needed repairs on the temple.
8 E fu vietato ai sacerdoti di continuare a ricevere il danaro dal popolo e di fare i restauri della casa.	8 Accordingly, King Joash summoned the priest Jehoiada and the other priests. "Why do you not repair the temple?" he asked them. "You must no longer take funds from your clients, but you shall turn them over for the repairs."
9 Il pontefice Ioiada presa allora una cassa e fattovi fare un buco dalla parte superiore, la collocò presso l'altare, a destra di quelli che entravano nella casa del Signore; e i sacerdoti che custodivano le porte vi gettavano tutto il denaro portato al tempio del Signore.	9 So the priests agreed that they would neither take funds from the people nor make the repairs on the temple.
10 Quando poi vedevano che nella cassa v'era molto denaro, andavano il segretario del re e il pontefice, e, dopo averlo versato, contavano il danaro che si trovava nella casa del Signore.	10 The priest Jehoiada then took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the stele, on the right as one entered the temple of the LORD. The priests who guarded the entry would put into it all the funds that were brought to the temple of the LORD.
11 Numeratolo e pesatolo, lo consegnavano ai capi dei muratori che lavoravano nella casa del Signore, i quali lo spendevano per i legnaioli e per i muratori che lavoravano nella casa del Signore.	11 When they noticed that there was a large amount of silver in the chest, the royal scribe (and the priest) would come up, and they would melt down all the funds that were in the temple of the LORD, and weigh them.
12 e facevano i restauri, per i tagliapietre, per comprare i legnami e le pietre da tagliare necessarie al completo restauro della casa del Signore in tutte le sue parti che esigevano spese pel consolidamento della casa,	12 The amount thus realized they turned over to the master workmen in the temple of the LORD. They in turn would give it to the carpenters and builders working in the temple of the LORD,
13 Però con questo danaro non eran fatte le idrie del tempio del Signore, le forchette, i turiboli, le trombe, nè alcun utensile d'oro e d'argento;	13 and to the lumbermen and stone cutters, and for the purchase of the wood and hewn stone used in repairing the breaches, and for any other expenses that were necessary to repair the temple.
14 ma il danaro portato nel tempio del Signore era dato a quelli che lavoravano ai restauri del tempio del Signore.	14 None of the funds brought to the temple of the LORD were used there to make silver cups, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any gold or silver article.
15 E non eran chiesti i conti a quelli che ricevevano il danaro per pagare gli artefici; ma l'amministravano sulla fiducia loro avuta.	15 Instead, they were given to the workmen, and with them they repaired the temple of the LORD.
16 In quanto poi al danaro pel delitto e al danaro pel peccato non era fatto entrare nel tempio del Signore, perchè esso era dei sacerdoti.	16 Moreover, no reckoning was asked of the men who were provided with the funds to give to the workmen, because they held positions of trust.
17 Allorquando Azael re di Siria salì a combattere contro Get e la prese e mosse per assalire Gerusalemme,	17 The funds from guilt-offerings and from sin-offerings, however, were not brought to the temple of the LORD; they belonged to the priests.
18 Ioas re di Giuda prese tutte le cose santificate, consacrate da losafat, da Ioram e da Ocozia suoi padri come pure offerte da lui, e tutto l'argento che potè trovare nei tesori del tempio del Signore e nel palazzo del re; e lo mandò ad Azael re di Siria, il quale si ritirò da Gerusalemme.	18 Then King Hazael of Aram mounted a siege against Gath. When he had taken it, Hazael decided to go on to attack Jerusalem.
19 Quanto poi al resto degli atti di Gioas e tutto quello che fece, non sono tutte queste cose scritte nel libro delle cronache dei re di Giuda?	19 But King Jehoash of Judah took all the dedicated offerings presented by his forebears, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, kings of Judah, as well as his own, and all the gold there was in the treasuries of the temple and the palace, and sent them to King Hazael of Aram, who then led his forces away from Jerusalem.
20 Ma i suoi servi gli si ribellarono e, fatta una congiura tra loro, uccisero Ioas nella casa di Mello, alla discesa di Sella.	20 The rest of the acts of Joash, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
21 Lo colpirono losacar figlio di Semaat e Iosabad figlio di Somer, suoi servi. Egli morì e fu sepolto coi suoi padri nella città di David, e gli successe nel regno Amasia suo figlio.	21 Certain of his officials entered into a plot against him and killed him at Beth-millo.
	22 Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, were the officials who killed him. He was buried in his forefathers' City of David, and his son Amaziah succeeded him as king.
