1 Salomone decise di costruire tu la casa al nome del Signore e un palazzo per sè, e	1 He conscripted seventy thousand men to carry stone and eighty thousand to cut the stone in the mountains, and over these he placed three thousand six hundred overseers.
2 arruolò settanta mila uomini da portar pesi, ottanta mila per tagliar pietre sulle montagne, tre mila seicento per sorvegliarli.	2 Moreover, Solomon sent this message to Huram, king of Tyre: "As you dealt with my father David, sending him cedars to build a house for his dwelling, so deal with me.
3 Poi mandò a dire a Hiram re di Tiro: « Come facesti con David mio padre, al quale mandasti legnami di cedro per fabbricarsi la casa ove egli abitò,	3 I intend to build a house for the honor of the LORD, my God, and to consecrate it to him, for the burning of fragrant incense in his presence, for the perpetual display of the showbread, for holocausts morning and evening, and for the sabbaths, new moons, and festivals of the LORD, our God: such is Israel's perpetual obligation.
4 fa lo stesso con me, affinchè possa edificare una casa al nome del Signore Dio mio e la consacri per bruciar incenso dinanzi a lui e farvi fumigar gli aromi, per esporvi in perpetuo i pani e offrirvi olocausti la mattina, la sera, nei sabati, nei noviluni, nelle solennità del Signore Dio nostro in sempiterno, come fu ordinato a Israele.	4 And the house I intend to build must be large, for our God is greater than all other gods.
5 Or la casa che bramo edificare è grande, perchè grande sopra tutti gli dèi è il nostro Dio.	5 Yet who is really able to build him a house, since the heavens and even the highest heavens cannot contain him? And who am I that I should build him a house, unless it be to offer incense in his presence?
6 Ma chi potrà esser da tanto da edificargli una casa degna di lui? Se il cielo e i cieli dei cieli non possono contenerlo, chi son io da potergli edificare una casa? Ma è solo per bruciare incenso davanti a lui.	6 Now, send me men skilled at work in gold, silver, bronze and iron, in purple, crimson, and violet fabrics, and who know how to do engraved work, to join the craftsmen who are with me in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David appointed.
7 Mandami adunque un uomo intelligente che sappia lavorare l'oro, l'argento, il rame, il ferro, la porpora, lo scarlatto, il giacinto e sappia far cesellature cogli artefici che io ho a mia disposizione nella Giudea e in Gerusalemme e che David mio padre ha preparati.	7 Also send me boards of cedar, cypress and cabinet wood from Lebanon, for I realize that your servants know how to cut the wood of the Lebanon. My servants will labor with yours
8 Mandami anche del legname di cedro, di abete e di pino dal Libano, chè so bene come i tuoi servi san tagliare il legname del Libano. I miei servi saranno coi tuoi,	8 in order to prepare for me a great quantity of wood, since the house I intend to build must be lofty and wonderful.
9 a prepararmi legname in quantità: perchè la casa che bramo costruire è grandissima e magnifica.	9 I will furnish as food for your servants, the hewers who cut the wood, twenty thousand kors of wheat, twenty thousand kors of barley, twenty thousand measures of wine, and twenty thousand measures of oil."
10 Agli operai tuoi servi che taglieranno il legname io darò come vitto venti mila cori di grano, altrettanti di orzo, venti mila metrete di vino e venti mila sati di olio ».	10 Huram, king of Tyre, wrote an answer which he sent to Solomon: "Because the LORD loves his people, he has placed you over them as king."
11 Hiram re di Tiro rispose nella lettera che mandò a Salomone: « Il Signore ha amato il suo popolo, per questo ti ha fatto re sopra di esso ».	11 He added: "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, for having given King David a wise son of intelligence and understanding, who will build a house for the LORD and also a house for his royal estate.
12 E aggiunse: « Benedetto sia il Signore Dio d'Israele, creatore del cielo e della terra, il quale ha dato al re David un figlio sapiente, abile, sensato e prudente per edificare una casa al Signore e un palazzo per sè.	12 I am now sending you a craftsman of great skill, Huram-abi,
13 Ti ho dunque mandato un uomo prudente e di grandissima capacità. Hiram mio padre,	13 son of a Danite woman and of a father from Tyre; he knows how to work with gold, silver, bronze and iron, with stone and wood, with purple, violet, fine linen and crimson, and also how to do all kinds of engraved work and to devise every type of artistic work that may be given him and your craftsmen and the craftsmen of my lord David your father.
14 fi­glio d'una donna delle figlie di Dan, e di un padre di Tiro, il qua­le sa lavorare in oro, in argento, in rame, in ferro, in marmo, in legno, ed anche in porpora, in giacinto, in bisso, in scarlatto; sa fare ogni sorta d'intagli e inventare ingegnosamente tutto quello che occorre per qualsiasi lavoro: egli starà coi tuoi artefici e con quelli del mio signore David tuo padre.	14 And now, let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, oil and wine which he has promised.
15 Manda adunque, signore mio, ai tuoi servi, il grano, l'orzo, l'olio e il vino che hai promesso,	15 For our part, we will cut trees on Lebanon, as many as you need, and float them down to you at the port of Joppa, whence you may take them up to Jerusalem."
16 e noi taglieremo legname del Libano quanto ne hai bisogno, e su zattere lo condurremo per mare a loppe e poi starà a te trasportarlo a Gerusa­lemme ».	16 Thereupon Solomon took a census of all the alien men who were in the land of Israel (following the census David his father had taken of them), who were found to number one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred.
17 Salomone adunque fece fare il conto di tutti gli uomini proseliti che erano nel paese d'Israele già numerati da David suo padre, e ne furono trovati centocinquantatrè mila seicento.	17 Of these he made seventy thousand carriers and eighty thousand cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to keep the people working.
18 Ne scelse settanta mila per portare pesi sulle spalle, ottanta mila per tagliare pietre sulle montagne, e tre mila seicento per sorvegliare i lavori di questa gente.
