Primo libro di Samuele 19

BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Saul aggiunse allora al figlio Gionata e a tutti i suoi servi di uccidere Davide; ma Gionata il figlio di Saul, che voleva molto bene a Davide,	1 Saul let his son Jonathan and al his servants know of his intention to kil David. But Jonathan, Saul'sson, held David in great affection;
2 ne lo informò dicendo: «Mio padre Saul ti cerca per ucciderti; quindi, ti prego, domani mattina starai ben allerta, cercherai qualche nascondiglio e ti terrai celato.	2 and Jonathan warned David, 'My father Saul is looking for a way to kil you, so be on your guardtomorrow morning; go into hiding, stay out of sight.
3 Quanto a me, uscirò e mi metterò ai fianchi di mio padre nella campagna dovunque sarai: parlerò di te a mio padre, e tutto quello che vedrò te lo comunicherò».	3 I shal go out and keep my father company in the countryside where you wil be, and shal talk to myfather about you; I shal see what the situation is and then tel you.'
4 Gionata adunque parlò a Saul in favore di Davide e aggiunse: «Non volere, o re, peccare contro Davide tuo servitore, poichè egli non ha peccato contro di te e le sue opere ti sono state di grande utilità.	4 Jonathan spoke highly of David to Saul his father and said, 'The king should not harm his servantDavid; far from harming you, what he has done has been greatly to your advantage.
5 Egli espose a repentaglio la sua vita abbattendo il Filisteo e [per suo mezzo] il Signore ha operato una grande liberazione per tutto Israele: tu l'hai visto e te ne sei rallegrato. Perchè dunque peccare contro un sangue innocente, facendo morire Davide che non ha colpa alcuna?».	5 He took his life in his hands, he killed the Philistine, and Yahweh brought about a great victory for al Israel. You saw for yourself. How pleased you were! Why then sin against innocent blood by kil ing David for noreason?'
6 All'udir ciò, Saul si placò alle parole di Gionata e proferì questo giuramento: «Viva il Signore! Egli non sarà messo a morte».	6 Saul was impressed by Jonathan's words. Saul swore, 'As Yahweh lives, I wil not kill him.'
7 Gionata pertanto chiamò Davide, gli riferì tutte queste cose e introdotto che fu alla presenza di Saul, riprese le sue funzioni.	7 Jonathan called David and told him al this. Jonathan then brought him to Saul, and David remained inattendance as before.
8 Essendo poi cominciata di nuovo la guerra, Davide uscì a combattere contro i Filistei e inflisse loro una grande sconfitta, obbligandoli a fuggire davanti a lui.	8 War broke out again and David sallied out to fight the Philistines; he inflicted a great defeat on themand they fled before him.
9 Ma Saul fu ancora invaso dallo spirito maligno, mandato dal Signore, e mentre se ne stava in casa seduto con in mano la lancia e Davide sonava l'arpa,	9 An evil spirit from Yahweh came over Saul while he was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand;David was playing the harp.
10 Saul tentò di trafiggerlo con la lancia contro il muro; Davide però si sottrasse da Saul, e la lancia riuscito vano il colpo, andò a conficcarsi nella parete. Davide allora fuggì e in quella notte ebbe salva la vita.	10 Saul tried to pin David to the wal with his spear, but he avoided Saul's thrust and the spear stuck inthe wal . David fled and made good his escape. That same night
11 Saul mandò i suoi sgherri alla casa di Davide per tenerlo d'occhio e ucciderlo la mattina; ma Micol, la moglie di Davide, ne lo avvertì, dicendo: «Se stanotte non ti poni in salvo, domani morrai».	11 Saul sent agents to watch David's house, intending to kil him in the morning. But Michal, David'swife, warned him, 'If you do not escape tonight, you wil be a dead man tomorrow!'
12 Lo calò quindi dalla finestra ed egli se ne andò, fuggì e si mise in salvo.	12 Michal then let David down through the window, and he made off, took to flight and so escaped.
13 Micol allora prese una statua e la pose nel letto; le mise intorno al capo una pelle di capra e la coprì di vesti.	13 Michal then took a domestic image, laid it on the bed, put a tress of goats' hair at the head of the bedand put a cover over it.
14 Quando Saul mandò gli sgherri a catturar Davide, ella disse loro che era malato;	14 When Saul sent the agents to arrest David, she said, 'He is il .'
15 li mandò una seconda volta con l'ordine di vederlo, dicendo: «Portatemelo qua nel suo letto, perchè sia ucciso».	15 Saul sent the agents back to see David, with the words, 'Bring him to me on his bed, for me to kilhim!'
16 I messi quando giunsero, trovarono sul letto la statua col capo coperto di pelli di capra.	16 So in the agents went, and there in bed was the image, with the tress of goats' hair on its head!
17 Saul allora disse a Micol: «Perchè ti sei presa giuoco di me e hai lasciato fuggire il mio nemico?». Ed ella rispose: «Egli mi disse: - Lasciami andare, se no ti uccido -».	17 Saul then said to Michal, 'Why have you deceived me like this and let my enemy go, and so make hisescape?' Michal replied to Saul, 'He said, "Let me go, or I shal kill you!" '
18 Salvatosi Davide con la fuga, venne da Samuele a Ramata e gli narrò tutto quello che Saul gli aveva fatto; poi con Samuele se ne andò ad abitare in Naiot.	18 David, having fled and made his escape, went to Samuel at Ramah and told him exactly how Saulhad treated him; he and Samuel went and lived in the huts.
19 La cosa venne annunciata a Saul da alcuni che gli dissero: «Ecco, Davide è in Naiot di Ramata».	19 Word was brought to Saul, 'David is in the huts at Ramah.'
20 Tosto il re mandò colà gli sgherri per rapir Davide. Venuti costoro, quando videro lo stuolo dei profeti che con Samuele a capo vaticinavano, furono investiti essi pure dallo spirito del Signore e cominciarono anch'essi a profetare.	20 Saul accordingly sent agents to capture David; when they saw the community of prophetsprophesying, and Samuel there as their leader, the spirit of God came over Saul's agents, and they too fel intofrenzy.
21 Il che essendo stato riferito a Saul, egli mandò altri messi, ma anche questi si misero a profetare. Saul mandò per la terza volta altri sgherri, che finirono col profetare essi pure. Furente di collera Saul	21 When Saul was told of this, he sent other agents, and they too fel into frenzy; Saul then sent a thirdgroup of agents, and they fel into frenzy too.
22 andò in persona a Ramata e giunto alla grande cisterna di Soco, domandò: «Dove sono Samuele e Davide?». Gli fu risposto: «Ecco, sono in Naiot di Ramata».	22 He then went to Ramah himself and, arriving at the large storage-wel at Seku, asked, 'Where areSamuel and David?' And someone said, 'Why, they are in the huts at Ramah!'
23 Egli andò là, in Naiot di Ramata, ma anche lui fu investito dallo spirito del Signore e, mentre vi si incamminava, si mise a profetare finchè giunse a Naiot di Ramata.	23 Making his way from there to the huts at Ramah, the spirit of God came over him too, and he wentalong in a frenzy until he arrived at the huts at Ramah.
24 Si spogliò anch'egli delle sue vesti e al cospetto di Samuele si mise a profetare insieme agli altri, poi cadde a terra nudo e vi restò tutto quel giorno e la notte. Di qui nacque il proverbio: «Saul è anch'egli del numero dei profeti?».	24 He too stripped off his clothes and he too fell into a frenzy in Samuel's presence, then col apsednaked on the ground for the rest of that day and al night. Hence the saying: Is Saul one of the prophets too?
