BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - I Farisei e i Sadducei s'accostarono a lui e, per tentarlo, gli domandarono di mostrar loro un segno dal cielo.	1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came, and to put him to the test they asked if he would show them asign from heaven.
2 Rispose loro: «La sera voi dite: - Tempo buono, giacchè il cielo rosseggia! -	2 He replied, 'In the evening you say, "It wil be fine; there's a red sky,"
3 E la mattina: - Oggi tempesta, perchè il cielo rosseggia cupo! -	3 and in the morning, "Stormy weather today; the sky is red and overcast." You know how to read theface of the sky, but you cannot read the signs of the times.
4 Voi dunque sapete distinguere l'aspetto del cielo, e non riuscite a distinguere i segni dei tempi? Una generazione perversa e adultera domanda un segno: e non le sarà dato altro segno tranne quello di Giona». E lasciatili, se n'andò.	4 It is an evil and unfaithful generation asking for a sign, and the only sign it wil be given is the sign ofJonah.' And he left them and went off.
5 Passando all'altra riva del lago, i suoi discepoli si eran scordati di prender su del pane.	5 The disciples, having crossed to the other side, had forgotten to take any food.
6 Gesù disse loro: «Aprite gli occhi e guardatevi dal lievito dei Farisei e dei Sadducei».	6 Jesus said to them, 'Keep your eyes open, and be on your guard against the yeast of the Phariseesand Sadducees.'
7 Ed essi andavan pensando tra loro: «Non abbiam preso pane».	7 And they said among themselves, 'It is because we have not brought any bread.'
8 Ma Gesù, che vedeva il loro pensiero, disse: «Uomini di poca fede, cosa andate pensando dentro di voi sul non aver preso del pane?	8 Jesus knew it, and he said, 'You have so little faith, why are you talking among yourselves abouthaving no bread?
9 Non capite ancora e non vi ricordate dei cinque pani distribuiti a cinquemila uomini e quanti panieri ne portaste via?	9 Do you stil not understand? Do you not remember the five loaves for the five thousand and thenumber of baskets you col ected?
10 E neppure dei sette pani distribuiti a quattromila uomini e quante ceste ne portaste via?	10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and the number of baskets you col ected?
11 Come mai non capite che non parlavo di pane quando vi ho detto: - Guardatevi dal lievito dei Farisei e dei Sadducei -?».	11 How could you fail to understand that I was not talking about bread? What I said was: Beware of theyeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.'
12 Allora capirono che aveva detto loro di guardarsi non dal lievito del pane, ma dalla dottrina dei Farisei e dei Sadducei.	12 Then they understood that he was tel ing them to be on their guard, not against yeast for makingbread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
13 Gesù, venuto nel territorio di Cesarea di Filippo, domandò ai suoi discepoli: «La gente chi dice che sia il Figliuol dell'uomo?».	13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, 'Who dopeople say the Son of man is?'
14 Risposero: «Alcuni dicono ch'è Giovanni Battista, altri Elia, altri Geremia o uno dei profeti».	14 And they said, 'Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.'
15 «E voi», chiese loro «chi dite che io sia?».	15 'But you,' he said, 'who do you say I am?'
16 Simon Pietro rispose: «Tu sei il Cristo, il Figlio di Dio vivente».	16 Then Simon Peter spoke up and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'
17 Gesù gli replicò: «Tu sei beato, Simone figlio di Giona, perchè nè la carne nè il sangue te l'han rivelato, ma il Padre mio che è nei cieli.	17 Jesus replied, 'Simon son of Jonah, you are a blessed man! Because it was no human agency thatrevealed this to you but my Father in heaven.
18 Ed io ti dico che tu sei Pietro e sopra questa pietra edificherò la mia Chiesa, e le porte dell'inferno non prevarranno contro di essa.	18 So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I wil build my community. And the gates of theunderworld can never overpower it.
19 Io ti darò le chiavi del regno de' cieli, e tutto ciò che tu legherai sulla terra sarà legato ne' cieli e tutto ciò che tu scioglierai sulla terra sarà sciolto nei cieli».	19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of Heaven: whatever you bind on earth will be bound inheaven; whatever you loose on earth wil be loosed in heaven.'
20 Allora egli impose a' suoi discepoli di non dire ad alcuno che egli era il Cristo.	20 Then he gave the disciples strict orders not to say to anyone that he was the Christ.
21 Da quell'ora Gesù cominciò a dire apertamente a' suoi discepoli che egli doveva andare a Gerusalemme e soffrire molte cose da parte degli Anziani, degli Scribi e dei sommi sacerdoti, ed essere ucciso e risuscitare il terzo giorno,	21 From then onwards Jesus began to make it clear to his disciples that he was destined to go toJerusalem and suffer grievously at the hands of the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to deathand to be raised up on the third day.
22 E Pietro, presolo in disparte, cominciò a riprenderlo, dicendo: «Non sia mai vero, Signore; questo non t'avverrà mai».	22 Then, taking him aside, Peter started to rebuke him. 'Heaven preserve you, Lord,' he said, 'this mustnot happen to you.'
23 Ma Gesù, rivoltosi, disse a Pietro: «Vattene lontano da me, Satana; tu mi sei di scandalo, perchè tu non hai il senso delle cose di Dio, ma delle cose degli uomini».	23 But he turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle in my path, becauseyou are thinking not as God thinks but as human beings do.'
24 Allora Gesù disse a' suoi discepoli: «Se qualcuno vuol venire dietro a me rinunzi a se stesso, prenda la sua croce e mi segua.	24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, 'If anyone wants to be a fol ower of mine, let him renounce himselfand take up his cross and follow me.
25 Perchè chi vorrà salvare la sua vita, la perderà: chi invece avrà perduto la sua vita per amor mio, la ritroverà.	25 Anyone who wants to save his life wil lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it.
26 Che giova mai all'uomo guadagnare tutto il mondo, se poi perde l'anima? O cosa darà un uomo in cambio della sua anima?	26 What, then, wil anyone gain by winning the whole world and forfeiting his life? Or what can anyoneoffer in exchange for his life?
27 Perchè il Figliuol dell'uomo verrà nella gloria del Padre suo con i suoi angeli, e allora renderà a ciascuno secondo le opere sue.	27 'For the Son of man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he wilreward each one according to his behaviour.
28 In verità vi dico che alcuni di coloro che son qui presenti non gusteranno la morte prima d'aver visto il Figliuol dell'uomo venire nel suo regno».	28 In truth I tel you, there are some standing here who wil not taste death before they see the Son ofman coming with his kingdom.'
