1 - Al corifeo: su strumenti a corda. Ode di David.	1 Unto the end. In verses, the understanding of David.
2 Ascolta, o Signore, la mia preghiera, e non sdegnar la mia supplica.	2 Listen to my prayer, O God, and despise not my supplication.
3 Dammi retta e ascoltami! Mi rattristo nel mio lamento e mi conturbo,	3 Be attentive to me, and heed me. I have been grieved in my training, and I have been disturbed
4 alla voce del nemico, per la persecuzione dell'empio. Perchè mi gettano addosso ribalderie e con furore mi tormentano.	4 at the voice of the adversary and at the tribulation of the sinner. For they have diverted iniquities toward me, and they have been harassing me with rage.
5 Il mio cuore è sossopra entro di me, e un mortale spavento m'invade.	5 My heart has become disturbed within me, and the dread of death has fallen over me.
6 Timore e tremore mi son piombati addosso, e le tenebre mi ravvolgono.	6 Fear and trembling have overwhelmed me, and darkness has buried me.
7 E dico: «Oh! avessi le ali come una colomba, per volarmene via e riposare!».	7 And I said, “Who will give me wings like the dove, so that I may fly away and take rest?”
8 Ecco, fuggirei lontano lontano, e mi fermerei nel deserto.	8 Behold, I have fled far away, and I linger in solitude.
9 Aspetterei [là] colui che può salvarmidall'abbattimento dello spirito e dalla tempesta.	9 I waited for him who saved me from a weak-minded spirit and from a tempest.
10 Abbatti[li], o Signore, confondi le loro lingue. Perchè vedo malvagità e discordia nella città.	10 Cast them down, O Lord, and divide their tongues. For I have seen iniquity and contradiction in the city.
11 Giorno e notte va attorno ad essa, sulle sue mura, l'iniquità, e la sciagura è dentro di lei	11 Day and night, iniquity will surround it upon its walls, and hardship is in its midst,
12 e l' ingiustizia, e non s'allontanan dalle sue piazze l'usura e la frode.	12 with injustice. And usury and deceit have not fallen away from its streets.
13 Se un nemico m'avesse insultato, l'avrei sopportato, e se un che m'odia avesse insolentito contro di me, mi sarei forse guardato da lui.	13 For if my enemy had spoken evil about me, certainly, I would have sustained it. And if he who hated me had been speaking great things against me, I would perhaps have hidden myself from him.
14 Ma [se' stato] tu, un'anima stessa con me, mia guida e mio intimo,	14 Truly, you are a man of one mind: my leader and my acquaintance,
15 [tu], che insieme con me prendevi il dolce cibo, e d'accordo procedevamo nella casa di Dio.	15 who took sweet food together with me. In the house of God, we walked side-by-side.
16 Cada la morte su loro e discendan vivi negli Inferi, perché perversità è nelle lor case, in mezzo a loro.	16 Let death come upon them, and let them descend alive into Hellfire. For there is wickedness in their dwellings, in their midst.
17 Ma io invoco Iddio, e il Signore mi salverà.	17 But I have cried out to God, and the Lord will save me.
18 La sera e la mattina e a mezzodì mi lamento e gemo, ed egli ascolterà la mia voce.	18 Evening and morning and midday, I will discourse and announce, and he will heed my voice.
19 libererà [e metterà] in pace l'anima mia da quei che m'assaltano, perchè sono in molti che mi sono addosso.	19 He will redeem my soul in peace from those who draw near to me. For, among the many, they were with me.
20 [Mi] ascolterà Iddio e gli umilierà, egli ch'è prima dè secoli. Non c'è invero mutamento [in bene] per essi, e non temono Dio.	20 God will hear, and He who is before time will humble them. For there is no change with them, and they have not feared God.
21 Stende [l'empio] la sua mano contro gli amici, viola il suo patto.	21 He has stretched forth his hand in retribution. They have contaminated his covenant.
22 Molle più del burro è la sua bocca, ma è guerra nel suo cuore. Più blande dell'oblio son le sue parole, e sono invece pugnali.	22 They were divided by the wrath of his countenance, and his heart has drawn near. His words are smoother than oil, and they are arrows.
23 Getta sul Signore la tua inquietudine ed egli ti sostenterà, non permetterà in eterno il vacillar del giusto.	23 Cast your cares upon the Lord, and he will nurture you. He will not allow the just to be tossed about forever.
24 Ma tu, o Dio, li trascinerai nella fossa di perdizione. I sanguinari e i frodolenti non raggiungeranno la metà de' loro giorni; ma io confido in te, o Signore.	24 Truly, O God, you will lead them away into the well of death. Bloody and deceitful men will not divide their days in half. But I will hope in you, O Lord.
