| 1 - Disse il Signore a Mosè: «Torna al Faraone. Io ho indurato il cuore di lui e de' suoi ministri; perciò farò su di lui questi miei prodigi, | 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go in to Pharaoh; for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants, that I may show these signs of mine among them, |
| 2 acciò tu narri ai tuoi figli e nipoti quante volte io ho flagellato gli Egiziani, e fatti su loro i miei prodigi, e sappiate ch'io sono il Signore». | 2 and that you may tell in the hearing of your son and of your son's son how I have made sport of the Egyptians and what signs I have done among them; that you may know that I am the LORD." |
| 3 Entrarono dunque Mosè ed Aronne al Faraone, e gli dissero: «Questo ti dice il Signore Dio degli ebrei: - Insino a quando ricuserai di sottoporti a me? Lascia andare il mio popolo perché mi offra un sacrificio. | 3 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, "Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. |
| 4 Che se tu resisti, e non glielo vuoi permettere, ecco io chiamerò domani nei tuoi territorii le locuste, | 4 For if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country, |
| 5 che copriranno il suolo in modo da non poterlo più vedere, e divoreranno tutto quello che restò dalla grandine. Corroderanno infatti tutte le piante che germogliano alla campagna. | 5 and they shall cover the face of the land, so that no one can see the land; and they shall eat what is left to you after the hail, and they shall eat every tree of yours which grows in the field, |
| 6 Empiranno le case tue, dei tuoi ministri, e di tutti gli Egiziani [e saranno] quante non ne hanno mai viste i padri e gli avi tuoi, da che cominciarono ad abitare in questi luoghi sino ad oggi -». Poi si ritirò, ed uscì dal cospetto del Faraone. | 6 and they shall fill your houses, and the houses of all your servants and of all the Egyptians; as neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen, from the day they came on earth to this day.'" Then he turned and went out from Pharaoh. |
| 7 Dissero al Faraone i suoi ministri: «Per quanto tempo ancora porteremo questo laccio? Lasciali andare, che sacrifichino al Signore Dio loro. Non vedi che l'Egitto va in rovina?». | 7 And Pharaoh's servants said to him, "How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God; do you not yet understand that Egypt is ruined?" |
| 8 Chiamarono dunque di nuovo Mosè ed Aronne alla presenza del Faraone, che disse loro: «Andate, e sacrificate al Signore Dio vostro. Chi son quelli che debbono andare?». | 8 So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh; and he said to them, "Go, serve the LORD your God; but who are to go?" |
| 9 Disse Mosè: «Partiremo coi bambini ed i vecchi coi figli e le figlie, coi greggi ed i bestiami; perchè è festa solenne del nostro Signore Dio». | 9 And Moses said, "We will go with our young and our old; we will go with our sons and daughters and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the LORD." |
| 10 Il Faraone rispose: «Così sia il Signore con voi, com'io lascerò andare voi ed i vostri piccoli. Chi può dubitare che non abbiate pessime intenzioni? | 10 And he said to them, "The LORD be with you, if ever I let you and your little ones go! Look, you have some evil purpose in mind. |
| 11 Non sarà così; vadano di voi i soli uomini, e sacrificate al Signore; questo infatti avete chiesto voi stessi». E subito furono scacciati dalla presenza del Faraone. | 11 No! Go, the men among you, and serve the LORD, for that is what you desire." And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence. |
| 12 Allora il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi la tua mano sull'Egitto, verso le locuste che vengano, e divorino tutta la vegetazione avanzata alla grandine». | 12 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come upon the land of Egypt, and eat every plant in the land, all that the hail has left." |
| 13 Mosè stese la verga sull'Egitto, ed il Signore fece venire un vento abbruciante per tutto quel giorno e la notte. Al mattino, quel vento abbruciante sollevò le locuste, | 13 So Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day and all that night; and when it was morning the east wind had brought the locusts. |
| 14 che montarono su tutto l'Egitto, e invasero tutto il territorio degli Egiziani, in numero sterminato, come non erano mai state prima d'allora, nè mai saranno nell'avvenire. | 14 And the locusts came up over all the land of Egypt, and settled on the whole country of Egypt, such a dense swarm of locusts as had never been before, nor ever shall be again. |
| 15 Ricoprirono tutto il suolo, e devastarono ogni cosa. Fu divorata l'erba della terra, ed ogni frutto sugli alberi, di ciò che la grandine aveva risparmiato; niente rimase di verdeggiante, né degli alberi né delle erbe della terra, in tutto l'Egitto. | 15 For they covered the face of the whole land, so that the land was darkened, and they ate all the plants in the land and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left; not a green thing remained, neither tree nor plant of the field, through all the land of Egypt. |
| 16 Perciò il Faraone fece chiamare in fretta Mosè ed Aronne, e disse loro: «Ho peccato contro il Signore Dio vostro, e contro voi. | 16 Then Pharaoh called Moses and Aaron in haste, and said, "I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you. |
| 17 Ma perdonatemi anche questa volta il mio peccato, e pregate il Signore Dio vostro, che allontani da me questo mortale flagello». | 17 Now therefore, forgive my sin, I pray you, only this once, and entreat the LORD your God only to remove this death from me." |
| 18 Uscito Mosè dalla presenza del Faraone, pregò il Signore, | 18 So he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated the LORD. |
| 19 il quale fece soffiare un vento fortissimo da occidente, che portò via le locuste, e le cacciò nel Mar Rosso. Non ne rimase neppure una entro i confini dell'Egitto. | 19 And the LORD turned a very strong west wind, which lifted the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea; not a single locust was left in all the country of Egypt. |
| 20 Ma il Signore indurò il cuore del Faraone, e questi non lasciò partire i figli d'Israele. | 20 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go. |
| 21 Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Stendi verso il cielo la tua mano, e siano sull'Egitto tenebre così dense da potersi palpare». | 21 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward heaven that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, a darkness to be felt." |
| 22 Mosè stese la mano verso il cielo, e in tutto l'Egitto, per tre giorni, furon tenebre orribili. | 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days; |
| 23 Nessuno vedeva il suo vicino, nè si moveva da dove era. Dovunque invece abitavano i figli d'Israele, era luce. | 23 they did not see one another, nor did any rise from his place for three days; but all the people of Israel had light where they dwelt. |
| 24 Il Faraone chiamò Mosè ed Aronne, e disse loro: «Andate, sacrificate al Signore; rimangano soltanto i vostri greggi e bestiami; i vostri bambini vadano con voi». | 24 Then Pharaoh called Moses, and said, "Go, serve the LORD; your children also may go with you; only let your flocks and your herds remain behind." |
| 25 Disse Mosè: «Lasciaci le vittime e gli olocausti da offrire al Signore Dio nostro. | 25 But Moses said, "You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God. |
| 26 Tutti gli animali partiranno con noi; non ne rimarrà nemmeno un'unghia, perché son necessari al culto del Signore Dio nostro; tanto più, che non sapremo quali si debbano immolare, sinchè non siamo arrivati a quel luogo». | 26 Our cattle also must go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind, for we must take of them to serve the LORD our God, and we do not know with what we must serve the LORD until we arrive there." |
| 27 Ora, il Signore indurò il cuore del Faraone, che non volle lasciarli andare. | 27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. |
| 28 E disse il Faraone a Mosè: «Va' via dalla mia presenza, e guarda di non più venirmi dinanzi; in qualunque giorno tu mi comparirai davanti, morrai». | 28 Then Pharaoh said to him, "Get away from me; take heed to yourself; never see my face again; for in the day you see my face you shall die." |
| 29 Rispose Mosè: «Com'hai detto, così sarà: non mi presenterò più dinanzi a te». | 29 Moses said, "As you say! I will not see your face again." |
