1 - Il re Salomone amò oltre la figlia di Faraone molte donne straniere, Moabite, Ammonite, Idumee, Sidonie ed Etee,	1 King Solomon loved many foreign women besides the daughter of Pharaoh (Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites),
2 appartenenti cioè a quelle genti delle quali disse il Signore ai figli d'Israele: «Non prendete tra loro le vostre mogli e non date loro in mogli le vostre figliuole, perchè senza dubbio essi pervertiranno i vostri cuori per farvi seguire i loro dèi». Legato pertanto a siffatte donne di ardentissimo amore,	2 from nations with which the LORD had forbidden the Israelites to intermarry, "because," he said, "they will turn your hearts to their gods." But Solomon fell in love with them.
3 ebbe in tutto settecento donne in conto di regine e trecento concubine e queste donne gli pervertirono il cuore.	3 He had seven hundred wives of princely rank and three hundred concubines, and his wives turned his heart.
4 Nella sua vecchiaia il cuore di lui fu pervertito dalle donne e indotto a seguire gli dèi stranieri. Così il suo cuore non fu tutto per il Signore Iddio suo, come il cuore di Davide, suo padre.	4 When Solomon was old his wives had turned his heart to strange gods, and his heart was not entirely with the LORD, his God, as the heart of his father David had been.
5 Ma Salomone venerava Astarte, dea dei Sidoni e Moloc, idolo degli Ammoniti;	5 By adoring Astarte, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Milcom, the idol of the Ammonites,
6 e fece ciò che non piaceva al Signore e non seguì pienamente il Signore come il padre suo Davide.	6 Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not follow him unreservedly as his father David had done.
7 Allora Salomone fabbricò sul monte, che è dirimpetto a Gerusalemme un santuario a Camoe, idolo di Moab ed uno a Moloc, idolo dei figli di Ammon	7 Solomon then built a high place to Chemosh, the idol of Moab, and to Molech, the idol of the Ammonites, on the hill opposite Jerusalem.
8 e similmente fece per tutte le sue donne straniere che offrivano incensi e sacrifici alle proprie divinità.	8 He did the same for all his foreign wives who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.
9 Il Signore quindi s'irritò contro Salomone, perchè la sua mente si era allontanata dal Signore Dio di Israele, che gli era apparso due volte	9 The LORD, therefore, became angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice
10 e gli aveva comandato di non seguire gli dèi stranieri: ma egli non osservò ciò che il Signore gli aveva comandato.	10 (for though the LORD had forbidden him this very act of following strange gods, Solomon had not obeyed him).
11 Perciò il Signore disse a Salomone: «Poichè hai operato in questo modo, e non hai custodito il mio patto e le mie leggi che ti avevo dato, io dividerò violentemente il tuo regno e lo darò al tuo servo.	11 So the LORD said to Solomon: "Since this is what you want, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes which I enjoined on you, I will deprive you of the kingdom and give it to your servant.
12 Tuttavia non farò questo durante la tua vita, per amor di Davide tuo padre, ma lo dividerò tra le mani del figliuol tuo.	12 I will not do this during your lifetime, however, for the sake of your father David; it is your son whom I will deprive.
13 Non gli toglierò però tutto il regno; ma per amor di Davide mio servo e di Gerusalemme, che mi sono eletto, darò al tuo figlio una tribù».	13 Nor will I take away the whole kingdom. I will leave your son one tribe for the sake of my servant David and of Jerusalem, which I have chosen."
14 Il Signore suscitò un nemico a Salomone in Adad Idumeo della stirpe reale che era in Edom.	14 The LORD then raised up an adversary to Solomon: Hadad the Edomite, who was of the royal line in Edom.
15 Quando Davide era nella Idumea e Joab capo dell'esercito vi era salito per seppellire quelli che vi erano stati uccisi, e aveva messo a morte tutti i maschi che erano nell'Idumea,	15 Earlier, when David had conquered Edom, Joab, the general of the army, while going to bury the slain, put to death every male in Edom.
16 (poichè Joab con tutto Israele rimase nell'Idumea sei mesi fino a che non ebbe sterminato tutti i maschi),	16 Joab and all Israel remained there six months until they had killed off every male in Edom.
17 Adad fuggì con alcuni Idumei, servi del padre suo, per andare in Egitto. Adad era ancora un tenero fanciullo.	17 Meanwhile, Hadad, who was only a boy, fled toward Egypt with some Edomite servants of his father.
18 Partiti da Madian, vennero in Faran e presi con loro uomini di Faran, giunsero in Egitto presso Faraone, re d'Egitto, il quale diede ad Adad una casa, provvide al suo sostentamento e gli assegnò un territorio.	18 They left Midian and passing through Paran, where they picked up additional men, they went into Egypt to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, who gave Hadad a house, appointed him rations, and assigned him land.
19 Adad trovò grazia agli occhi di Faraone, tanto che ottenne da lui in moglie la sorella germana della regina Tafnes, sua moglie.	19 Hadad won great favor with Pharaoh, so that he gave him in marriage the sister of Queen Tahpenes, his own wife.
20 La sorella di Tafnes gli generò Genubat che fu nutrito da Tafnes nella casa di Faraone, abitando egli presso Faraone coi figli di lui.	20 Tahpenes' sister bore Hadad a son, Genubath. After his weaning, the queen kept him in Pharaoh's palace, where he then lived with Pharaoh's own sons.
21 Quando Adad intese in Egitto che Davide si era addormentato coi suoi padri ed era morto Joab, capo dell'esercito, disse a Faraone: «Lasciami andare nella mia terra»;	21 When Hadad in Egypt heard that David rested with his ancestors and that Joab, the general of the army, was dead, he said to Pharaoh, "Give me leave to return to my own country."
22 e Faraone gli osservò: «Che ti manca in casa mia, per cercare di andar nella tua terra?»; egli rispose: «Nulla; ma, ti prego, lasciami partire».	22 Pharaoh said to him, "What do you lack with me, that you are seeking to return to your own country?" "Nothing," he said, "but please let me go!"
23 Dio suscitò ancora un altro nemico a Salomone, Razon figlio di Eliada, il quale era fuggito dal suo padrone Adarezer, re di Soba.	23 God raised up against Solomon another adversary, in Rezon, the son of Eliada, who had fled from his lord, Hadadezer, king of Zobah,
24 Egli raccolse contro di lui vari uomini e diventò capo di banditi quando Davide li metteva a morte. Essi se ne andarono a Damasco e abitarono colà e costituirono Razon, re di Damasco.	24 when David defeated them with slaughter. Rezon gathered men about him and became leader of a band, went to Damascus, settled there, and became king in Damascus.
25 Costui fu avversario di Israele durante tutta la vita di Salomone. E questo è il male [che fece] Adad e il suo odio [che ebbe] contro Israele; egli regnò in Siria.	25 He was an enemy of Israel as long as Solomon lived; this added to the harm done by Hadad, who made a rift in Israel by becoming king over Edom.
26 Anche Geroboamo, figlio di Nabat Efrateo, di Sareda, servo di Salomone, la cui madre aveva nome Sarva, donna vedova, si levò contro il re.	26 Solomon's servant Jeroboam, son of Nebat, an Ephraimite from Zeredah with a widowed mother, Zeruah, also rebelled against the king.
27 Ed ecco la causa della sua ribellione contro di lui. Salomone edificava Mello e colmava la voragine della città di Davide, suo padre.	27 This is why he rebelled. King Solomon was building Millo, closing up the breach of his father's City of David.
28 Ora Geroboamo era uomo forte e potente, e Salomone, veduto questo giovane di buona indole e attivo, lo costituì prefetto dei tributi sopra tutta la casa di Giuseppe.	28 Jeroboam was a man of means, and when Solomon saw that he was also an industrious young man, he put him in charge of the entire labor force of the house of Joseph.
29 Ora avvenne che in quel tempo, uscendo Geroboamo da Gerusalemme, si incontrasse per via con Aia Silonita profeta, il quale indossava un manto nuovo. Erano soltanto loro due nell'aperta campagna	29 At that time Jeroboam left Jerusalem, and the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite met him on the road. The two were alone in the area, and the prophet was wearing a new cloak.
30 e Aia preso il suo mantello nuovo, di cui era coperto, lo divise in dodici parti	30 Ahijah took off his new cloak, tore it into twelve pieces,
31 e disse a Geroboamo: «Prendi per te dieci pezzi, poichè il Signore Dio di Israele dice questo: - Ecco io dividerò il regno di Salomone e darò a te dieci tribù,	31 and said to Jeroboam: "Take ten pieces for yourself; the LORD, the God of Israel, says: 'I will tear away the kingdom from Solomon's grasp and will give you ten of the tribes.
32 mentre una tribù rimarrà a lui per amor di Davide mio servo e di Gerusalemme, città da me eletta tra tutte le tribù di Israele:	32 One tribe shall remain to him for the sake of David my servant, and of Jerusalem, the city I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel.
33 e ciò perchè egli ha peccato contro di me e adorò Astarte, dea dei Sidoni, e Camoe dio di Moab, e Moloc dio dei figli di Ammon, e perchè non ha camminato nelle mie vie per fare ciò che è giusto dinanzi a me e per osservare i miei precetti e le mie leggi, come Davide suo padre.	33 The ten I will give you because he has forsaken me and has worshiped Astarte, goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh, god of Moab, and Milcom, god of the Ammonites; he has not followed my ways or done what is pleasing to me according to my statutes and my decrees, as his father David did.
34 Tuttavia non toglierò tutto il regno dalle sue mani, ma lo lascerò governare tutti i giorni della sua vita per amor di Davide, mio servo, che ho eletto e che custodì i miei comandamenti e i miei precetti;	34 Yet I will not take any of the kingdom from Solomon himself, but will keep him a prince as long as he lives for the sake of my servant David, whom I chose, who kept my commandments and statutes.
35 toglierò invece il regno dalle mani del figliuolo di lui e darò a te dieci tribù	35 But I will take the kingdom from his son and will give it to you--that is, the ten tribes.
36 e al figlio di lui darò una sola tribù, affinchè resti sempre per Davide mio servo una lucerna davanti a me in Gerusalemme, città da me eletta per collocarvi il mio nome.	36 I will give his son one tribe, that my servant David may always have a lamp before me in Jerusalem, the city in which I choose to be honored.
37 Io poi prenderò te e tu regnerai sopra tutto ciò che desidera la tua anima e sarai re d'Israele. -	37 I will take you; you shall reign over all that you desire and shall become king of Israel.
38 Se adunque darai ascolto a tutto ciò che io ho comandato a te e camminerai nelle mie vie e farai ciò che è retto dinanzi a me, custodendo i miei comandamenti e i miei precetti, come fece Davide, mio servo, io sarò con te, ti edificherò una casa stabile, come la edificai a Davide e ti affiderò Israele.	38 If, then, you heed all that I command you, follow my ways, and please me by keeping my statutes and my commandments like my servant David, I will be with you. I will establish for you, as I did for David, a lasting dynasty; I will give Israel to you.
39 Umilierò così la discendenza di Davide, non però per sempre».	39 I will punish David's line for this, but not forever.'"
40 Salomone perciò volle far morire Geroboamo, che si levò e se ne fuggì in Egitto, presso Sesac re di Egitto e restò colà fino alla morte di Salomone.	40 When Solomon tried to have Jeroboam killed for his rebellion, he escapedto King Shishak, in Egypt, where he remained until Solomon's death.
41 Tutte le altre azioni di Salomone, tutto ciò che fece e la sua sapienza, tutto ciò è scritto nel Libro delle gesta dei giorni di Salomone.	41 The rest of the acts of Solomon, with all his deeds and his wisdom, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of Solomon.
42 Salomone regnò in Gerusalemme sopra tutto Israele quarant'anni;	42 The time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.
43 poi si addormentò coi suoi padri e fu sepolto nella città di Davide suo padre, e regnò, in luogo di lui, il figliuolo suo Roboamo.	43 Solomon rested with his ancestors; he was buried in his father's City of David, and his son Rehoboam succeeded him as king.
