BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E uno dei sette angeli, che hanno le sette coppe, venne e parlò con me: «Vieni, ti mostrerò la condanna della grande prostituta, che siede presso le grandi acque.	1 One of the seven angels that had the seven bowls came to speak to me, and said, 'Come here and Iwil show you the punishment of the great prostitute who is enthroned beside abundant waters,
2 Con lei si sono prostituiti i re della terra, e gli abitanti della terra si sono inebriati del vino della sua prostituzione».	2 with whom al the kings of the earth have prostituted themselves, and who has made al the populationof the world drunk with the wine of her adultery.'
3 L’angelo mi trasportò in spirito nel deserto. Là vidi una donna seduta sopra una bestia scarlatta, che era coperta di nomi blasfemi, aveva sette teste e dieci corna.	3 He took me in spirit to a desert, and there I saw a woman riding a scarlet beast which had sevenheads and ten horns and had blasphemous titles written al over it.
4 La donna era vestita di porpora e di scarlatto, adorna d’oro, di pietre preziose e di perle; teneva in mano una coppa d’oro, colma degli orrori e delle immondezze della sua prostituzione.	4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet and glittered with gold and jewels and pearls, and shewas holding a gold winecup fil ed with the disgusting filth of her prostitution;
5 Sulla sua fronte stava scritto un nome misterioso: «Babilonia la grande, la madre delle prostitute e degli orrori della terra».	5 on her forehead was written a name, a cryptic name: 'Babylon the Great, the mother of al theprostitutes and all the filthy practices on the earth.'
6 E vidi quella donna, ubriaca del sangue dei santi e del sangue dei martiri di Gesù. Al vederla, fui preso da grande stupore.	6 I saw that she was drunk, drunk with the blood of the saints, and the blood of the martyrs of Jesus;and when I saw her, I was completely mystified.
7 Ma l’angelo mi disse: «Perché ti meravigli? Io ti spiegherò il mistero della donna e della bestia che la porta, quella che ha sette teste e dieci corna.	7 The angel said to me, 'Do you not understand? I wil tel you the meaning of this woman, and of thebeast she is riding, with the seven heads and the ten horns.
8 La bestia che hai visto era, ma non è più; salirà dall’abisso, ma per andare verso la rovina. E gli abitanti della terra il cui nome non è scritto nel libro della vita fino dalla fondazione del mondo, stupiranno al vedere che la bestia era, e non è più; ma riapparirà.	8 'The beast you have seen was once alive and is alive no longer; it is yet to come up from the Abyss,but only to go to its destruction. And the people of the world, whose names have not been written since thebeginning of the world in the book of life, wil be astonished when they see how the beast was once alive and isalive no longer, and is stil to come.
9 Qui è necessaria una mente saggia. Le sette teste sono i sette monti sui quali è seduta la donna. E i re sono sette:	9 'This cal s for shrewdness. The seven heads are the seven hil s, on which the woman is sitting.
10 i primi cinque sono caduti; uno è ancora in vita, l’altro non è ancora venuto e, quando sarà venuto, dovrà rimanere per poco.	10 The seven heads are also seven emperors. Five of them have already gone, one is here now, andone is yet to come; once here, he must stay for a short while.
11 La bestia, che era e non è più, è l’ottavo re e anche uno dei sette, ma va verso la rovina.	11 The beast, who was alive and is alive no longer, is at the same time the eighth and one of the seven,and he is going to his destruction.
12 Le dieci corna che hai visto sono dieci re, i quali non hanno ancora ricevuto un regno, ma riceveranno potere regale per un’ora soltanto, insieme con la bestia.	12 'The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have not yet been given their royal power but willhave royal authority only for a single hour and in association with the beast.
13 Questi hanno un unico intento: consegnare la loro forza e il loro potere alla bestia.	13 They are all of one mind in putting their strength and their powers at the beast's disposal,
14 Essi combatteranno contro l’Agnello, ma l’Agnello li vincerà, perché è il Signore dei signori e il Re dei re; quelli che stanno con lui sono i chiamati, gli eletti e i fedeli».	14 and they wil go to war against the Lamb; but because the Lamb is Lord of lords and King of kings, hewil defeat them, he and his fol owers, the cal ed, the chosen, the trustworthy.'
15 E l’angelo mi disse: «Le acque che hai visto, presso le quali siede la prostituta, simboleggiano popoli, moltitudini, nazioni e lingue.	15 The angel continued, 'The waters you saw, beside which the prostitute was sitting, are al thepeoples, the populations, the nations and the languages.
16 Le dieci corna che hai visto e la bestia odieranno la prostituta, la spoglieranno e la lasceranno nuda, ne mangeranno le carni e la bruceranno col fuoco.	16 But the ten horns and the beast will turn against the prostitute, and tear off her clothes and leave herstark naked; then they wil eat her flesh and burn the remains in the fire.
17 Dio infatti ha messo loro in cuore di realizzare il suo disegno e di accordarsi per affidare il loro regno alla bestia, finché si compiano le parole di Dio.	17 In fact, God has influenced their minds to do what he intends, to agree together to put their royalpowers at the beast's disposal until the time when God's words shal be fulfilled.
18 La donna che hai visto simboleggia la città grande, che regna sui re della terra».	18 The woman you saw is the great city which has authority over all the rulers on earth.'
