Seconda lettera a Timoteo 3

1 Sappi che negli ultimi tempi verranno momenti difficili.	1 And know this: that in the last days perilous times will press near.
2 Gli uomini saranno egoisti, amanti del denaro, vanitosi, orgogliosi, bestemmiatori, ribelli ai genitori, ingrati, empi,	2 Men will be lovers of themselves, greedy, self-exalting, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, wicked,
3 senza amore, sleali, calunniatori, intemperanti, intrattabili, disumani,	3 without affection, without peace, false accusers, unchaste, cruel, without kindness,
4 traditori, sfrontati, accecati dall’orgoglio, amanti del piacere più che di Dio,	4 traitorous, reckless, self-important, loving pleasure more than God,
5 gente che ha una religiosità solo apparente, ma ne disprezza la forza interiore. Guàrdati bene da costoro!	5 even having the appearance of piety while rejecting its virtue. And so, avoid them.
6 Fra questi vi sono alcuni che entrano nelle case e circuiscono certe donnette cariche di peccati, in balìa di passioni di ogni genere,	6 For among these are ones who penetrate houses and lead away, like captives, foolish women burdened with sins, who are led away by means of various desires,
7 sempre pronte a imparare, ma che non riescono mai a giungere alla conoscenza della verità.	7 always learning, yet never achieving knowledge of the truth.
8 Sull’esempio di Iannes e di Iambrès che si opposero a Mosè, anche costoro si oppongono alla verità: gente dalla mente corrotta e che non ha dato buona prova nella fede.	8 And in the same manner that Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so also will these resist the truth, men corrupted in mind, reprobates from the faith.
9 Ma non andranno molto lontano, perché la loro stoltezza sarà manifesta a tutti, come lo fu la stoltezza di quei due.	9 But they will not advance beyond a certain point. For the folly of the latter shall be made manifest to all, just as that of the former.
10 Tu invece mi hai seguito da vicino nell’insegnamento, nel modo di vivere, nei progetti, nella fede, nella magnanimità, nella carità, nella pazienza,	10 But you have fully comprehended my doctrine, instruction, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,
11 nelle persecuzioni, nelle sofferenze. Quali cose mi accaddero ad Antiòchia, a Icònio e a Listra! Quali persecuzioni ho sofferto! Ma da tutte mi ha liberato il Signore!	11 persecutions, afflictions; such things as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, and at Lystra; how I endured persecutions, and how the Lord rescued me from everything.
12 E tutti quelli che vogliono rettamente vivere in Cristo Gesù saranno perseguitati.	12 And all those who willingly live the piety in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
13 Ma i malvagi e gli impostori andranno sempre di male in peggio, ingannando gli altri e ingannati essi stessi.	13 But evil men and deceivers will advance in evil, erring and sending into error.
14 Tu però rimani saldo in quello che hai imparato e che credi fermamente. Conosci coloro da cui lo hai appreso	14 Yet truly, you should remain in those things which you have learned and which have been entrusted to you. For you know from whom you have learned them.
15 e conosci le sacre Scritture fin dall’infanzia: queste possono istruirti per la salvezza, che si ottiene mediante la fede in Cristo Gesù.	15 And, from your infancy, you have known the Sacred Scriptures, which are able to instruct you toward salvation, through the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 Tutta la Scrittura, ispirata da Dio, è anche utile per insegnare, convincere, correggere ed educare nella giustizia,	16 All Scripture, having been divinely inspired, is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in justice,
17 perché l’uomo di Dio sia completo e ben preparato per ogni opera buona.	17 so that the man of God may be perfect, having been trained for every good work.
