1 «Io sono la vite vera e il Padre mio è l’agricoltore.	1 "I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
2 Ogni tralcio che in me non porta frutto, lo taglia, e ogni tralcio che porta frutto, lo pota perché porti più frutto.	2 He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.
3 Voi siete già puri, a causa della parola che vi ho annunciato.	3 You are already pruned because of the word that I spoke to you.
4 Rimanete in me e io in voi. Come il tralcio non può portare frutto da se stesso se non rimane nella vite, così neanche voi se non rimanete in me.	4 Remain in me, as I remain in you. Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own unless it remains on the vine, so neither can you unless you remain in me.
5 Io sono la vite, voi i tralci. Chi rimane in me, e io in lui, porta molto frutto, perché senza di me non potete far nulla.	5 I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing.
6 Chi non rimane in me viene gettato via come il tralcio e secca; poi lo raccolgono, lo gettano nel fuoco e lo bruciano.	6 Anyone who does not remain in me will be thrown out like a branch and wither; people will gather them and throw them into a fire and they will be burned.
7 Se rimanete in me e le mie parole rimangono in voi, chiedete quello che volete e vi sarà fatto.	7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
8 In questo è glorificato il Padre mio: che portiate molto frutto e diventiate miei discepoli.	8 By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.
9 Come il Padre ha amato me, anche io ho amato voi. Rimanete nel mio amore.	9 As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love.
10 Se osserverete i miei comandamenti, rimarrete nel mio amore, come io ho osservato i comandamenti del Padre mio e rimango nel suo amore.	10 If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love.
11 Vi ho detto queste cose perché la mia gioia sia in voi e la vostra gioia sia piena.	11 "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete.
12 Questo è il mio comandamento: che vi amiate gli uni gli altri come io ho amato voi.	12 This is my commandment: love one another as I love you.
13 Nessuno ha un amore più grande di questo: dare la sua vita per i propri amici.	13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one's life for one's friends.
14 Voi siete miei amici, se fate ciò che io vi comando.	14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.
15 Non vi chiamo più servi, perché il servo non sa quello che fa il suo padrone; ma vi ho chiamato amici, perché tutto ciò che ho udito dal Padre mio l’ho fatto conoscere a voi.	15 I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you everything I have heard from my Father.
16 Non voi avete scelto me, ma io ho scelto voi e vi ho costituiti perché andiate e portiate frutto e il vostro frutto rimanga; perché tutto quello che chiederete al Padre nel mio nome, ve lo conceda.	16 It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.
17 Questo vi comando: che vi amiate gli uni gli altri.	17 This I command you: love one another.
18 Se il mondo vi odia, sappiate che prima di voi ha odiato me.	18 "If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
19 Se foste del mondo, il mondo amerebbe ciò che è suo; poiché invece non siete del mondo, ma vi ho scelti io dal mondo, per questo il mondo vi odia.	19 If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own; but because you do not belong to the world, and I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you.
20 Ricordatevi della parola che io vi ho detto: “Un servo non è più grande del suo padrone”. Se hanno perseguitato me, perseguiteranno anche voi; se hanno osservato la mia parola, osserveranno anche la vostra.	20 Remember the word I spoke to you, 'No slave is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
21 Ma faranno a voi tutto questo a causa del mio nome, perché non conoscono colui che mi ha mandato.	21 And they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know the one who sent me.
22 Se io non fossi venuto e non avessi parlato loro, non avrebbero alcun peccato; ma ora non hanno scusa per il loro peccato.	22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin; but as it is they have no excuse for their sin.
23 Chi odia me, odia anche il Padre mio.	23 Whoever hates me also hates my Father.
24 Se non avessi compiuto in mezzo a loro opere che nessun altro ha mai compiuto, non avrebbero alcun peccato; ora invece hanno visto e hanno odiato me e il Padre mio.	24 If I had not done works among them that no one else ever did, they would not have sin; but as it is, they have seen and hated both me and my Father.
25 Ma questo, perché si compisse la parola che sta scritta nella loro Legge: Mi hanno odiato senza ragione.	25 But in order that the word written in their law might be fulfilled, 'They hated me without cause.'
26 Quando verrà il Paràclito, che io vi manderò dal Padre, lo Spirito della verità che procede dal Padre, egli darà testimonianza di me;	26 "When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me.
27 e anche voi date testimonianza, perché siete con me fin dal principio.	27 And you also testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.
