1 Convocò i Dodici e diede loro forza e potere su tutti i demòni e di guarire le malattie.	1 Then calling together the twelve Apostles, he gave them power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.
2 E li mandò ad annunciare il regno di Dio e a guarire gli infermi.	2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the infirm.
3 Disse loro: «Non prendete nulla per il viaggio, né bastone, né sacca, né pane, né denaro, e non portatevi due tuniche.	3 And he said to them: “You should take nothing for the journey, neither staff, nor traveling bag, nor bread, nor money; and you should not have two tunics.
4 In qualunque casa entriate, rimanete là, e di là poi ripartite.	4 And into whatever house you shall enter, lodge there, and do not move away from there.
5 Quanto a coloro che non vi accolgono, uscite dalla loro città e scuotete la polvere dai vostri piedi come testimonianza contro di loro».	5 And whoever will not have received you, upon departing from that city, shake off even the dust on your feet, as a testimony against them.”
6 Allora essi uscirono e giravano di villaggio in villaggio, ovunque annunciando la buona notizia e operando guarigioni.	6 And going forth, they traveled around, through the towns, evangelizing and curing everywhere.
7 Il tetrarca Erode sentì parlare di tutti questi avvenimenti e non sapeva che cosa pensare, perché alcuni dicevano: «Giovanni è risorto dai morti»,	7 Now Herod the tetrarch heard about all the things that were being done by him, but he doubted, because it was said
8 altri: «È apparso Elia», e altri ancora: «È risorto uno degli antichi profeti».	8 by some, “For John has risen from the dead,” yet truly, by others, “For Elijah has appeared,” and by still others, “For one of the prophets from of old has risen again.”
9 Ma Erode diceva: «Giovanni, l’ho fatto decapitare io; chi è dunque costui, del quale sento dire queste cose?». E cercava di vederlo.	9 And Herod said: “I beheaded John. So then, who is this, about whom I hear such things?” And he sought to see him.
10 Al loro ritorno, gli apostoli raccontarono a Gesù tutto quello che avevano fatto. Allora li prese con sé e si ritirò in disparte, verso una città chiamata Betsàida.	10 And when the Apostles returned, they explained to him all the things that they had done. And taking them with him, he withdrew to a deserted place apart, which belongs to Bethsaida.
11 Ma le folle vennero a saperlo e lo seguirono. Egli le accolse e prese a parlare loro del regno di Dio e a guarire quanti avevano bisogno di cure.	11 But when the crowd had realized this, they followed him. And he received them and spoke to them about the kingdom of God. And those who were in need of cures, he healed.
12 Il giorno cominciava a declinare e i Dodici gli si avvicinarono dicendo: «Congeda la folla perché vada nei villaggi e nelle campagne dei dintorni, per alloggiare e trovare cibo: qui siamo in una zona deserta».	12 Then the day began to decline. And drawing near, the twelve said to him: “Dismiss the crowds, so that, by going into the surrounding towns and villages, they may separate and find food. For we are here in a deserted place.”
13 Gesù disse loro: «Voi stessi date loro da mangiare». Ma essi risposero: «Non abbiamo che cinque pani e due pesci, a meno che non andiamo noi a comprare viveri per tutta questa gente».	13 But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” And they said, “There is with us no more than five loaves and two fish, unless perhaps we are to go and buy food for this entire multitude.”
14 C’erano infatti circa cinquemila uomini. Egli disse ai suoi discepoli: «Fateli sedere a gruppi di cinquanta circa».	14 Now there were about five thousand men. So he said to his disciples, “Have them recline to eat in groups of fifty.”
15 Fecero così e li fecero sedere tutti quanti.	15 And they did so. And they caused them all to recline to eat.
16 Egli prese i cinque pani e i due pesci, alzò gli occhi al cielo, recitò su di essi la benedizione, li spezzò e li dava ai discepoli perché li distribuissero alla folla.	16 Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish, he gazed up to heaven, and he blessed and broke and distributed them to his disciples, in order to set them before the crowd.
17 Tutti mangiarono a sazietà e furono portati via i pezzi loro avanzati: dodici ceste.	17 And they all ate and were satisfied. And twelve baskets of fragments were taken up, which were left over from them.
18 Un giorno Gesù si trovava in un luogo solitario a pregare. I discepoli erano con lui ed egli pose loro questa domanda: «Le folle, chi dicono che io sia?».	18 And it happened that, when he was praying alone, his disciples also were with him, and he questioned them, saying: “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”
19 Essi risposero: «Giovanni il Battista; altri dicono Elia; altri uno degli antichi profeti che è risorto».	19 But they answered by saying: “John the Baptist. But some say Elijah. Yet truly, others say that one of the prophets from before has risen again.”
20 Allora domandò loro: «Ma voi, chi dite che io sia?». Pietro rispose: «Il Cristo di Dio».	20 Then he said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” In response, Simon Peter said, “The Christ of God.”
21 Egli ordinò loro severamente di non riferirlo ad alcuno.	21 But speaking sharply to them, he instructed them not to tell this to anyone,
22 «Il Figlio dell’uomo – disse – deve soffrire molto, essere rifiutato dagli anziani, dai capi dei sacerdoti e dagli scribi, venire ucciso e risorgere il terzo giorno».	22 saying, “For the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the leaders of the priests and the scribes, and be killed, and on the third day rise again.”
23 Poi, a tutti, diceva: «Se qualcuno vuole venire dietro a me, rinneghi se stesso, prenda la sua croce ogni giorno e mi segua.	23 Then he said to everyone: “If anyone is willing to come after me: let him deny himself, and take up his cross every day, and follow me.
24 Chi vuole salvare la propria vita, la perderà, ma chi perderà la propria vita per causa mia, la salverà.	24 For whoever will have saved his life, will lose it. Yet whoever will have lost his life for my sake, will save it.
25 Infatti, quale vantaggio ha un uomo che guadagna il mondo intero, ma perde o rovina se stesso?	25 For how does it benefit a man, if he were to gain the whole world, yet lose himself, or cause himself harm?
26 Chi si vergognerà di me e delle mie parole, di lui si vergognerà il Figlio dell’uomo quando verrà nella gloria sua e del Padre e degli angeli santi.	26 For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words: of him the Son of man will be ashamed, when he will have arrived in his majesty and that of his Father and of the holy Angels.
27 In verità io vi dico: vi sono alcuni, qui presenti, che non morranno prima di aver visto il regno di Dio».	27 And yet, I tell you a truth: There are some standing here who shall not taste death, until they see the kingdom of God.”
28 Circa otto giorni dopo questi discorsi, Gesù prese con sé Pietro, Giovanni e Giacomo e salì sul monte a pregare.	28 And it happened that, about eight days after these words, he took Peter and James and John, and he ascended onto a mountain, so that he might pray.
29 Mentre pregava, il suo volto cambiò d’aspetto e la sua veste divenne candida e sfolgorante.	29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was altered, and his vestment became white and shining.
30 Ed ecco, due uomini conversavano con lui: erano Mosè ed Elia,	30 And behold, two men were talking with him. And these were Moses and Elijah, appearing in majesty.
31 apparsi nella gloria, e parlavano del suo esodo, che stava per compiersi a Gerusalemme.	31 And they spoke of his departure, which he would accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 Pietro e i suoi compagni erano oppressi dal sonno; ma, quando si svegliarono, videro la sua gloria e i due uomini che stavano con lui.	32 Yet truly, Peter and those who were with him were weighed down by sleep. And becoming alert, they saw his majesty and the two men who were standing with him.
33 Mentre questi si separavano da lui, Pietro disse a Gesù: «Maestro, è bello per noi essere qui. Facciamo tre capanne, una per te, una per Mosè e una per Elia». Egli non sapeva quello che diceva.	33 And it happened that, as these were departing from him, Peter said to Jesus: “Teacher, it is good for us to be here. And so, let us make three tabernacles: one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what he was saying.
34 Mentre parlava così, venne una nube e li coprì con la sua ombra. All’entrare nella nube, ebbero paura.	34 Then, as he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them. And as these were entering into the cloud, they were afraid.
35 E dalla nube uscì una voce, che diceva: «Questi è il Figlio mio, l’eletto; ascoltatelo!».	35 And a voice came from the cloud, saying: “This is my beloved son. Listen to him.”
36 Appena la voce cessò, restò Gesù solo. Essi tacquero e in quei giorni non riferirono a nessuno ciò che avevano visto.	36 And while the voice was being uttered, Jesus was found to be alone. And they were silent and told no one, in those days, any of these things, which they had seen.
37 Il giorno seguente, quando furono discesi dal monte, una grande folla gli venne incontro.	37 But it happened on the following day that, as they were descending from the mountain, a great crowd met him.
38 A un tratto, dalla folla un uomo si mise a gridare: «Maestro, ti prego, volgi lo sguardo a mio figlio, perché è l’unico che ho!	38 And behold, a man from the crowd cried out, saying, “Teacher, I beg you, look kindly on my son, for he is my only son.
39 Ecco, uno spirito lo afferra e improvvisamente si mette a gridare, lo scuote, provocandogli bava alla bocca, se ne allontana a stento e lo lascia sfinito.	39 And behold, a spirit takes hold of him, and he suddenly cries out, and it throws him down and convulses him, so that he foams. And though it tears him apart, it leaves him only with difficulty.
40 Ho pregato i tuoi discepoli di scacciarlo, ma non ci sono riusciti».	40 And I asked your disciples to cast him out, and they were unable.”
41 Gesù rispose: «O generazione incredula e perversa, fino a quando sarò con voi e vi sopporterò? Conduci qui tuo figlio».	41 And in response, Jesus said: “O unfaithful and perverse generation! How long will I be with you and endure you? Bring your son here.”
42 Mentre questi si avvicinava, il demonio lo gettò a terra scuotendolo con convulsioni. Gesù minacciò lo spirito impuro, guarì il fanciullo e lo consegnò a suo padre.	42 And as he was approaching him, the demon threw him down and convulsed him.
43 E tutti restavano stupiti di fronte alla grandezza di Dio. Mentre tutti erano ammirati di tutte le cose che faceva, disse ai suoi discepoli:	43 And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and he healed the boy, and he restored him to his father.
44 «Mettetevi bene in mente queste parole: il Figlio dell’uomo sta per essere consegnato nelle mani degli uomini».	44 And all were astonished at the greatness of God. And as everyone was wondering over all that he was doing, he said to his disciples: “You must set these words in your hearts. For it shall be that the Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men.”
45 Essi però non capivano queste parole: restavano per loro così misteriose che non ne coglievano il senso, e avevano timore di interrogarlo su questo argomento.	45 But they did not understood this word, and it was concealed from them, so that they did not perceive it. And they were afraid to question him about this word.
46 Nacque poi una discussione tra loro, chi di loro fosse più grande.	46 Now an idea entered into them, as to which of them was greater.
47 Allora Gesù, conoscendo il pensiero del loro cuore, prese un bambino, se lo mise vicino	47 But Jesus, perceiving the thoughts of their hearts, took a child and stood him beside him.
48 e disse loro: «Chi accoglierà questo bambino nel mio nome, accoglie me; e chi accoglie me, accoglie colui che mi ha mandato. Chi infatti è il più piccolo fra tutti voi, questi è grande».	48 And he said to them: “Whoever will receive this child in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives him who sent me. For whoever is the lesser among you all, the same is greater.”
49 Giovanni prese la parola dicendo: «Maestro, abbiamo visto uno che scacciava demòni nel tuo nome e glielo abbiamo impedito, perché non ti segue insieme con noi».	49 And responding, John said: “Teacher, we saw a certain one casting out demons in your name. And we prohibited him, for he does not follow with us.”
50 Ma Gesù gli rispose: «Non lo impedite, perché chi non è contro di voi, è per voi».	50 And Jesus said to him: “Do not prohibit him. For whoever is not against you, is for you.”
51 Mentre stavano compiendosi i giorni in cui sarebbe stato elevato in alto, egli prese la ferma decisione di mettersi in cammino verso Gerusalemme	51 Now it happened that, while the days of his dissipation were being completed, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem.
52 e mandò messaggeri davanti a sé. Questi si incamminarono ed entrarono in un villaggio di Samaritani per preparargli l’ingresso.	52 And he sent messengers before his face. And going on, they entered into a city of the Samaritans, to prepare for him.
53 Ma essi non vollero riceverlo, perché era chiaramente in cammino verso Gerusalemme.	53 And they would not receive him, because his face was going toward Jerusalem.
54 Quando videro ciò, i discepoli Giacomo e Giovanni dissero: «Signore, vuoi che diciamo che scenda un fuoco dal cielo e li consumi?».	54 And when his disciples, James and John, had seen this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to call for fire to descend from heaven and consume them?”
55 Si voltò e li rimproverò.	55 And turning, he rebuked them, saying: “Do you not know of whose spirit you are?
56 E si misero in cammino verso un altro villaggio.	56 The Son of man came, not to destroy lives, but to save them.” And they went into another town.
57 Mentre camminavano per la strada, un tale gli disse: «Ti seguirò dovunque tu vada».	57 And it happened that, as they were walking along the way, someone said to him, “I will follow you, wherever you will go.”
58 E Gesù gli rispose: «Le volpi hanno le loro tane e gli uccelli del cielo i loro nidi, ma il Figlio dell’uomo non ha dove posare il capo».	58 Jesus said to him: “Foxes have dens, and the birds of the air have nests. But the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.”
59 A un altro disse: «Seguimi». E costui rispose: «Signore, permettimi di andare prima a seppellire mio padre».	59 Then he said to another, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”
60 Gli replicò: «Lascia che i morti seppelliscano i loro morti; tu invece va’ e annuncia il regno di Dio».	60 And Jesus said to him: “Let the dead bury their dead. But you go and announce the kingdom of God.”
61 Un altro disse: «Ti seguirò, Signore; prima però lascia che io mi congedi da quelli di casa mia».	61 And another said: “I will follow you, Lord. But permit me first to explain this to those of my house.”
62 Ma Gesù gli rispose: «Nessuno che mette mano all’aratro e poi si volge indietro è adatto per il regno di Dio».	62 Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow, and then looks back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
