1 State attenti a non praticare la vostra giustizia davanti agli uomini per essere ammirati da loro, altrimenti non c’è ricompensa per voi presso il Padre vostro che è nei cieli.	1 “Pay attention, lest you perform your justice before men, in order to be seen by them; otherwise you shall not have a reward with your Father, who is in heaven.
2 Dunque, quando fai l’elemosina, non suonare la tromba davanti a te, come fanno gli ipocriti nelle sinagoghe e nelle strade, per essere lodati dalla gente. In verità io vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.	2 Therefore, when you give alms, do not choose to sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the towns, so that they may be honored by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.
3 Invece, mentre tu fai l’elemosina, non sappia la tua sinistra ciò che fa la tua destra,	3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
4 perché la tua elemosina resti nel segreto; e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti ricompenserà.	4 so that your almsgiving may be in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
5 E quando pregate, non siate simili agli ipocriti che, nelle sinagoghe e negli angoli delle piazze, amano pregare stando ritti, per essere visti dalla gente. In verità io vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.	5 And when you pray, you should not be like the hypocrites, who love standing in the synagogues and at the corners of the streets to pray, so that they may be seen by men. Amen I say to you, they have received their reward.
6 Invece, quando tu preghi, entra nella tua camera, chiudi la porta e prega il Padre tuo, che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti ricompenserà.	6 But you, when you pray, enter into your room, and having shut the door, pray to your Father in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
7 Pregando, non sprecate parole come i pagani: essi credono di venire ascoltati a forza di parole.	7 And when praying, do not choose many words, as the pagans do. For they think that by their excess of words they might be heeded.
8 Non siate dunque come loro, perché il Padre vostro sa di quali cose avete bisogno prima ancora che gliele chiediate.	8 Therefore, do not choose to imitate them. For your Father knows what your needs may be, even before you ask him.
9 Voi dunque pregate così: Padre nostro che sei nei cieli, sia santificato il tuo nome,	9 Therefore, you shall pray in this way: Our Father, who is in heaven: May your name be kept holy.
10 venga il tuo regno, sia fatta la tua volontà, come in cielo così in terra.	10 May your kingdom come. May your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth.
11 Dacci oggi il nostro pane quotidiano,	11 Give us this day our life-sustaining bread.
12 e rimetti a noi i nostri debiti come anche noi li rimettiamo ai nostri debitori,	12 And forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors.
13 e non abbandonarci alla tentazione, ma liberaci dal male.	13 And lead us not into temptation. But free us from evil. Amen.
14 Se voi infatti perdonerete agli altri le loro colpe, il Padre vostro che è nei cieli perdonerà anche a voi;	14 For if you will forgive men their sins, your heavenly Father also will forgive you your offenses.
15 ma se voi non perdonerete agli altri, neppure il Padre vostro perdonerà le vostre colpe.	15 But if you will not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive you your sins.
16 E quando digiunate, non diventate malinconici come gli ipocriti, che assumono un’aria disfatta per far vedere agli altri che digiunano. In verità io vi dico: hanno già ricevuto la loro ricompensa.	16 And when you fast, do not choose to become gloomy, like the hypocrites. For they alter their faces, so that their fasting may be apparent to men. Amen I say to you, that they have received their reward.
17 Invece, quando tu digiuni, profùmati la testa e làvati il volto,	17 But as for you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
18 perché la gente non veda che tu digiuni, ma solo il Padre tuo, che è nel segreto; e il Padre tuo, che vede nel segreto, ti ricompenserà.	18 so that your fasting will not be apparent to men, but to your Father, who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will repay you.
19 Non accumulate per voi tesori sulla terra, dove tarma e ruggine consumano e dove ladri scassìnano e rubano;	19 Do not choose to store up for yourselves treasures on earth: where rust and moth consume, and where thieves break in and steal.
20 accumulate invece per voi tesori in cielo, dove né tarma né ruggine consumano e dove ladri non scassìnano e non rubano.	20 Instead, store up for yourselves treasures in heaven: where neither rust nor moth consumes, and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 Perché, dov’è il tuo tesoro, là sarà anche il tuo cuore.	21 For where your treasure is, there also is your heart.
22 La lampada del corpo è l’occhio; perciò, se il tuo occhio è semplice, tutto il tuo corpo sarà luminoso;	22 The lamp of your body is your eye. If your eye is wholesome, your entire body will be filled with light.
23 ma se il tuo occhio è cattivo, tutto il tuo corpo sarà tenebroso. Se dunque la luce che è in te è tenebra, quanto grande sarà la tenebra!	23 But if your eye has been corrupted, your entire body will be darkened. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great will that darkness be!
24 Nessuno può servire due padroni, perché o odierà l’uno e amerà l’altro, oppure si affezionerà all’uno e disprezzerà l’altro. Non potete servire Dio e la ricchezza.	24 No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will have hatred for the one, and love the other, or he will persevere with the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.
25 Perciò io vi dico: non preoccupatevi per la vostra vita, di quello che mangerete o berrete, né per il vostro corpo, di quello che indosserete; la vita non vale forse più del cibo e il corpo più del vestito?	25 And so I say to you, do not be anxious about your life, as to what you will eat, nor about your body, as to what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
26 Guardate gli uccelli del cielo: non séminano e non mietono, né raccolgono nei granai; eppure il Padre vostro celeste li nutre. Non valete forse più di loro?	26 Consider the birds of the air, how they neither sow, nor reap, nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of much greater value than they are?
27 E chi di voi, per quanto si preoccupi, può allungare anche di poco la propria vita?	27 And which of you, by thinking, is able to add one cubit to his stature?
28 E per il vestito, perché vi preoccupate? Osservate come crescono i gigli del campo: non faticano e non filano.	28 And as for clothing, why are you anxious? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither work nor weave.
29 Eppure io vi dico che neanche Salomone, con tutta la sua gloria, vestiva come uno di loro.	29 But I say to you, that not even Solomon, in all his glory, was arrayed like one of these.
30 Ora, se Dio veste così l’erba del campo, che oggi c’è e domani si getta nel forno, non farà molto di più per voi, gente di poca fede?	30 So if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and cast into the oven tomorrow, how much more will he care for you, O little in faith?
31 Non preoccupatevi dunque dicendo: “Che cosa mangeremo? Che cosa berremo? Che cosa indosseremo?”.	31 Therefore, do not choose to be anxious, saying: ‘What shall we eat, and what shall we drink, and with what shall we be clothed?’
32 Di tutte queste cose vanno in cerca i pagani. Il Padre vostro celeste, infatti, sa che ne avete bisogno.	32 For the Gentiles seek all these things. Yet your Father knows that you need all these things.
33 Cercate invece, anzitutto, il regno di Dio e la sua giustizia, e tutte queste cose vi saranno date in aggiunta.	33 Therefore, seek first the kingdom of God and his justice, and all these things shall be added to you as well.
34 Non preoccupatevi dunque del domani, perché il domani si preoccuperà di se stesso. A ciascun giorno basta la sua pena.	34 Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow; for the future day will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its evil.”
