BIBBIA CEI 2008	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Nell’anno ventitreesimo di Ioas, figlio di Acazia, re di Giuda, Ioacàz, figlio di Ieu, divenne re su Israele a Samaria. Egli regnò diciassette anni.	1 In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu became king ofIsrael in Samaria. He reigned for seventeen years.
2 Fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore; imitò il peccato di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, che aveva fatto peccare Israele, né mai se ne allontanò.	2 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh and copied the sin into which Jeroboam son of Nebat had ledIsrael; he did not give it up.
3 L’ira del Signore si accese contro Israele e li consegnò in mano a Cazaèl, re di Aram, e in mano a Ben-Adàd, figlio di Cazaèl, per tutto quel tempo.	3 This aroused Yahweh's anger against the Israelites, and he delivered them without respite into thepower of Hazael king of Aram and of Ben-Hadad son of Hazael.
4 Ma Ioacàz placò il volto del Signore e il Signore lo ascoltò, perché aveva visto l’oppressione d’Israele: infatti il re di Aram lo opprimeva.	4 Jehoahaz, however, tried to placate Yahweh, and Yahweh heard him, for he had seen the oppressionwhich the king of Aram was inflicting on Israel.
5 Il Signore concesse un salvatore a Israele, che così riuscì a sfuggire al potere di Aram; gli Israeliti poterono abitare nelle loro tende come prima.	5 Yahweh gave Israel a saviour who freed them from the grip of Aram, and the Israelites lived in theirtents as in the past.
6 Ma essi non si allontanarono dai peccati che la casa di Geroboamo aveva fatto commettere a Israele, ma li imitarono e anche il palo sacro rimase in piedi a Samaria.	6 But they did not give up the sin into which Jeroboam had led Israel; they persisted in it, and even thesacred pole stayed standing in Samaria.
7 Pertanto non furono lasciati soldati a Ioacàz, se non cinquanta cavalli, dieci carri e diecimila fanti, perché li aveva distrutti il re di Aram, riducendoli come la polvere che si calpesta.	7 Of Jehoahaz's army Yahweh left only fifty horsemen, ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers. Theking of Aram had destroyed them, making them like dust trampled under foot.
8 Le altre gesta di Ioacàz, tutte le sue azioni e la sua potenza, non sono forse descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele?	8 The rest of the history of Jehoahaz, his entire career, his prowess, is this not recorded in the Book ofthe Annals of the Kings of Israel?
9 Ioacàz si addormentò con i suoi padri, fu sepolto a Samaria e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Ioas.	9 Then Jehoahaz fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in Samaria; his son Joash succeededhim.
10 Nell’anno trentasettesimo di Ioas, re di Giuda, Ioas, figlio di Ioacàz, divenne re su Israele a Samaria. Egli regnò sedici anni.	10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, became king of Israel inSamaria. He reigned for sixteen years.
11 Fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore; non si allontanò da tutti i peccati che Geroboamo figlio di Nebat aveva fatto commettere a Israele, ma li imitò.	11 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, he did not give up the sin into which Jeroboam son of Nebathad led Israel; he persisted in it.
12 Le altre gesta di Ioas, tutte le sue azioni e la potenza con cui combatté con Amasia, re di Giuda, non sono forse descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele?	12 The rest of the history of Joash, his entire career, his prowess, how he waged war on Amaziah king ofJudah, is this not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?
13 Ioas si addormentò con i suoi padri e sul suo trono si sedette Geroboamo. Ioas fu sepolto a Samaria con i re d’Israele.	13 Then Joash fel asleep with his ancestors, and Jeroboam ascended his throne. Joash was buried inSamaria with the kings of Israel.
14 Quando Eliseo si ammalò della malattia di cui morì, Ioas, re d’Israele, scese da lui, scoppiò in pianto in sua presenza, dicendo: «Padre mio, padre mio, carro d’Israele e suoi destrieri!».	14 When Elisha had fal en il of the il ness of which he was to die, Joash king of Israel went down to himand shedding tears over him said, 'Father! Father! Chariot of Israel and its chargers!'
15 Eliseo gli disse: «Va’ a prendere arco e frecce», ed egli prese arco e frecce per lui.	15 Elisha said to him, 'Bring bow and arrows,' and he sent for a bow and arrows.
16 Disse ancora Eliseo al re d’Israele: «Metti la tua mano sull’arco». Dopo che egli ebbe messa la mano, Eliseo mise le sue mani sopra le mani del re,	16 Then Elisha said to the king, 'Draw the bow,' and he drew it. Elisha put his hands over the hands ofthe king,
17 quindi disse: «Apri la finestra verso oriente». Dopo che egli ebbe aperta la finestra, Eliseo disse: «Tira!». Ioas tirò. Eliseo disse: «Freccia vittoriosa del Signore, freccia vittoriosa contro Aram. Tu colpirai Aram ad Afek, sino a finirlo».	17 then he said, 'Open the window towards the east,' and he opened it. Then Elisha said, 'Shoot!' And heshot. Elisha said, 'Arrow of victory over Aram! You wil defeat Aram at Aphek-completely.'
18 Eliseo disse: «Prendi le frecce». E quando quegli le ebbe prese, disse al re d’Israele: «Colpisci la terra», ed egli la percosse tre volte, poi si fermò.	18 Elisha said, 'Take the arrows,' and he took them. Then he said to the king, 'Strike the ground,' and hestruck it three times, then stopped.
19 L’uomo di Dio s’indignò contro di lui e disse: «Colpendo cinque o sei volte, avresti colpito Aram sino a finirlo; ora, invece, sconfiggerai Aram solo tre volte».	19 At this the man of God grew angry with him. 'You should have struck half a dozen times,' he said, 'andyou would have beaten Aram completely; now you wil beat Aram only three times.'
20 Eliseo morì e lo seppellirono. Nell’anno successivo alcune bande di Moab penetrarono nella terra.	20 Elisha died and was buried. Bands of Moabites were making incursions into the country every year.
21 Mentre seppellivano un uomo, alcuni, visto un gruppo di razziatori, gettarono quell’uomo sul sepolcro di Eliseo e se ne andarono. L’uomo, venuto a contatto con le ossa di Eliseo, riacquistò la vita e si alzò sui suoi piedi.	21 Some people happened to be carrying a man out for burial; at the sight of one of these bands, theyflung the man into the tomb of Elisha and made off. The man had no sooner touched the bones of Elisha than hecame to life and stood up on his feet.
22 Cazaèl, re di Aram, oppresse gli Israeliti per tutti i giorni di Ioacàz.	22 Hazael king of Aram had oppressed the Israelites throughout the lifetime of Jehoahaz,
23 Ma il Signore ebbe pietà di loro, ne ebbe compassione e tornò a favorirli a causa della sua alleanza con Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe; non volle distruggerli e non li ha rigettati dal suo volto fino ad ora.	23 but Yahweh was kind and took pity on them. Because of the covenant which he had made withAbraham, Isaac and Jacob, he relented towards them; he had no wish to destroy them, he did not cast them outof his presence.
24 Cazaèl, re di Aram, morì e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Ben-Adàd.	24 Hazael king of Aram died, and his son Ben-Hadad succeeded him.
25 Allora Ioas, figlio di Ioacàz, tornò a prendere a Ben-Adàd, figlio di Cazaèl, le città che Cazaèl aveva tolte con la guerra a suo padre Ioacàz. Ioas lo sconfisse tre volte; così recuperò le città d’Israele.	25 From Ben-Hadad son of Hazael, Jehoash son of Jehoahaz recaptured the towns which Hazael hadseized from his father Jehoahaz by force of arms. Joash defeated him three times and recovered the Israelitetowns.
