1 Trascorsero tre anni senza guerra fra Aram e Israele.	1 There was a lul of three years, with no fighting between Aram and Israel.
2 Nel terzo anno Giòsafat, re di Giuda, scese dal re d’Israele.	2 Then, in the third year, Jehoshaphat king of Judah paid a visit to the king of Israel.
3 Ora il re d’Israele aveva detto ai suoi ufficiali: «Non sapete che Ramot di Gàlaad è nostra? Eppure noi ce ne stiamo inerti, senza riprenderla dalla mano del re di Aram».	3 The king of Israel said to his officers, 'You are aware that Ramoth in Gilead belongs to us? And yet wedo nothing to wrest it away from the king of Aram.'
4 Disse a Giòsafat: «Verresti con me a combattere per Ramot di Gàlaad?». Giòsafat rispose al re d’Israele: «Conta su di me come su te stesso, sul mio popolo come sul tuo, sui miei cavalli come sui tuoi».	4 He said to Jehoshaphat, 'Wil you come with me to attack Ramoth in Gilead?' Jehoshaphat replied tothe king of Israel, 'I will be as you, my men as yours, my horses as yours.'
5 Giòsafat disse al re d’Israele: «Consulta, per favore, oggi stesso la parola del Signore».	5 Jehoshaphat, however, said to the king of Israel, 'First, please enquire what the word of Yahweh is.'
6 Il re d’Israele radunò i profeti, quattrocento persone, e domandò loro: «Devo andare in guerra contro Ramot di Gàlaad o devo rinunciare?». Risposero: «Attacca; il Signore la metterà in mano al re».	6 The king of Israel then cal ed the prophets together, about four hundred of them. 'Should I go andattack Ramoth in Gilead,' he asked, 'or should I hold back?' 'Go ahead,' they replied, 'for Yahweh has alreadygiven it to the king.'
7 Giòsafat disse: «Non c’è qui ancora un profeta del Signore da consultare?».	7 Jehoshaphat, however, said, 'Is there no other prophet of Yahweh here, so that we can enquirethrough him?'
8 Il re d’Israele rispose a Giòsafat: «C’è ancora un uomo, per consultare tramite lui il Signore, ma io lo detesto perché non mi profetizza il bene, ma il male: è Michea, figlio di Imla». Giòsafat disse: «Il re non parli così!».	8 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'There is one more man through whom we can consultYahweh, but I hate him because he never has a favourable prophecy for me, only unfavourable ones; he isMicaiah son of Imlah.' 'I hope the king's words are unjustified,' said Jehoshaphat.
9 Il re d’Israele, chiamato un cortigiano, gli ordinò: «Convoca subito Michea, figlio di Imla».	9 The king of Israel then summoned a court official and said, 'Bring Micaiah son of Imlah immediately.'
10 Il re d’Israele e Giòsafat, re di Giuda, sedevano ognuno sul suo trono, vestiti dei loro mantelli, nello spiazzo all’ingresso della porta di Samaria; tutti i profeti profetizzavano davanti a loro.	10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting each on his throne, wearing their robes,in an open space just outside the gate of Samaria, with al the prophets in a state of ecstasy before them.
11 Sedecìa, figlio di Chenaanà, che si era fatto corna di ferro, affermava: «Così dice il Signore: “Con queste cozzerai contro gli Aramei sino a finirli”».	11 Zedekiah son of Kenaanah, who had made himself some iron horns, said, 'Yahweh says, "With hornslike these you wil gore the Aramaeans til you make an end of them." '
12 Tutti i profeti profetizzavano allo stesso modo: «Assali Ramot di Gàlaad, avrai successo. Il Signore la metterà in mano al re».	12 And all the prophets cried ecstatical y in the same vein, saying, 'March on Ramoth in Gilead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'
13 Il messaggero, che era andato a chiamare Michea, gli disse: «Ecco, le parole dei profeti concordano sul successo del re; ora la tua parola sia come quella degli altri: preannuncia il successo!».	13 The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, 'Look here, what the prophets aresaying is uniformly favourable to the king. I hope you wil say the same as they do and speak favourably.'
14 Michea rispose: «Per la vita del Signore, annuncerò quanto il Signore mi dirà».	14 Micaiah said, 'As Yahweh lives, I shal speak as Yahweh tel s me!'
15 Si presentò al re, che gli domandò: «Michea, dobbiamo andare in guerra contro Ramot di Gàlaad o rinunciare?». Gli rispose: «Attaccala e avrai successo; il Signore la metterà nella mano del re».	15 When he came to the king, the king said, 'Micaiah, should we go and attack Ramoth in Gilead, orshould we hold back?' He replied, 'Go ahead! Success is sure, for Yahweh has already given it to the king!'
16 Il re gli disse: «Quante volte ti devo scongiurare di non dirmi se non la verità nel nome del Signore?».	16 The king then said, 'How often must I put you on oath to tell me nothing but the truth in the name ofYahweh?'
17 Egli disse: «Vedo tutti gli Israeliti vagare sui monti come pecore che non hanno pastore. Il Signore dice: “Questi non hanno padrone; ognuno torni a casa sua in pace!”».	17 Then he spoke out: I saw al Israel scattered on the mountains like sheep without a shepherd. AndYahweh said, 'These have no master, let them all go safely home!'
18 Il re d’Israele disse a Giòsafat: «Non te l’avevo detto che costui non mi profetizza il bene, ma solo il male?».	18 At this the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'Did I not tell you that he never gives me favourableprophecies, but only unfavourable ones?'
19 Michea disse: «Perciò, ascolta la parola del Signore. Io ho visto il Signore seduto sul trono; tutto l’esercito del cielo gli stava intorno, a destra e a sinistra.	19 Micaiah went on, 'Now listen to the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh seated on his throne with thewhole array of heaven standing by him, on his right and on his left.
20 Il Signore domandò: “Chi ingannerà Acab perché salga contro Ramot di Gàlaad e vi perisca?”. Chi rispose in un modo e chi in un altro.	20 Yahweh said, "Who will entice Ahab into marching to his death at Ramoth in Gilead?" At which someanswered one way, and some another.
21 Si fece avanti uno spirito che, presentatosi al Signore, disse: “Lo ingannerò io”. “Come?”, gli domandò il Signore.	21 A spirit then came forward and stood before Yahweh and said, "I wil entice him."
22 Rispose: “Andrò e diventerò spirito di menzogna sulla bocca di tutti i suoi profeti”. Gli disse: “Lo ingannerai; certo riuscirai: va’ e fa’ così”.	22 "How?" Yahweh asked. He replied, "I shal go and be a deceptive spirit in the mouths of al hisprophets." Yahweh said, "You wil succeed in enticing him. Go and do it."
23 Ecco, dunque, il Signore ha messo uno spirito di menzogna sulla bocca di tutti questi tuoi profeti, ma il Signore a tuo riguardo parla di sciagura».	23 And now, you see, Yahweh has put a deceptive spirit into the mouths of al your prophets here, for infact Yahweh has pronounced disaster on you.'
24 Allora Sedecìa, figlio di Chenaanà, si avvicinò e percosse Michea sulla guancia dicendo: «In che modo lo spirito del Signore è passato da me per parlare a te?».	24 Zedekiah son of Chenaanah then came up, struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, 'Which way didYahweh's spirit leave me, to speak to you?'
25 Michea rispose: «Ecco, lo vedrai nel giorno in cui passerai di stanza in stanza per nasconderti».	25 'That is what you will find out,' Micaiah retorted, 'the day you go from room to room, trying to hide.'
26 Il re d’Israele disse: «Prendi Michea e conducilo da Amon, governatore della città, e da Ioas, figlio del re.	26 The king of Israel said, 'Seize Micaiah and hand him over to Amon, governor of the city, and Joash,the king's son,
27 Dirai loro: “Così dice il re: Mettete costui in prigione e nutritelo con il minimo di pane e di acqua finché tornerò in pace”».	27 and say, "These are the king's orders: Put this man in prison and feed him on nothing but bread andwater until I am safely home." '
28 Michea disse: «Se davvero tornerai in pace, il Signore non ha parlato per mezzo mio». E aggiunse: «Popoli tutti, ascoltate!».	28 Micaiah said, 'If you ever do get home safely, Yahweh has not spoken through me.'
29 Il re d’Israele marciò, insieme con Giòsafat, re di Giuda, contro Ramot di Gàlaad.	29 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah marched on Ramoth in Gilead.
30 Il re d’Israele disse a Giòsafat: «Io per combattere mi travestirò. Tu resta con i tuoi abiti». Il re d’Israele si travestì ed entrò in battaglia.	30 The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, 'I shal disguise myself to go into battle, but you put on yourrobes.' So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
31 Il re di Aram aveva ordinato ai comandanti dei suoi carri, che erano trentadue: «Non combattete contro nessuno, piccolo o grande, ma unicamente contro il re d’Israele».	31 Now, the king of Aram had given his chariot commanders the fol owing order, 'Do not attack anyoneof whatever rank, except the king of Israel.'
32 Appena videro Giòsafat, i comandanti dei carri dissero: «Certo, quello è il re d’Israele». Si avvicinarono a lui per combattere. Giòsafat lanciò un grido.	32 So, when the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, 'That is obviously the king ofIsrael,' and surrounded him to attack. But when Jehoshaphat shouted his war cry
33 I comandanti dei carri si accorsero che non era il re d’Israele e si allontanarono da lui.	33 the chariot commanders, realising that he was not the king of Israel, broke off their pursuit.
34 Ma un uomo tese a caso l’arco e colpì il re d’Israele fra le maglie dell’armatura e la corazza. Il re disse al suo cocchiere: «Gira, portami fuori della mischia, perché sono ferito».	34 Someone, however, drawing his bow without any special aim, shot the king of Israel between thejoints of his armour. 'Turn about!' said the king to his charioteer. 'Get me out of the fighting; I am col apsing.'
35 La battaglia infuriò in quel giorno; il re stette sul suo carro di fronte agli Aramei. Alla sera morì; il sangue della sua ferita era colato sul fondo del carro.	35 But the battle grew fiercer as the day went on and the king had to be held upright in his chariot facingthe Aramaeans, the blood from the wound running into the bottom of the chariot, until in the evening he died.
36 Al tramonto questo grido si diffuse per l’accampamento: «Ognuno alla sua città e ognuno alla sua terra!».	36 At sundown a shout ran through the ranks, 'Every man back to his town, every man back to hiscountry!
37 Il re dunque morì. Giunsero a Samaria e seppellirono il re a Samaria.	37 The king is dead.' He was taken to Samaria and in Samaria the king was buried.
38 Il carro fu lavato nella piscina di Samaria; i cani leccarono il suo sangue e le prostitute vi si bagnarono, secondo la parola pronunciata dal Signore.	38 They washed the chariot at the Pool of Samaria; the dogs licked up the blood, and the prostituteswashed in it, in accordance with the word which Yahweh had spoken.
39 Le altre gesta di Acab, tutte le sue azioni, la costruzione della casa d’avorio e delle città da lui erette, non sono forse descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re d’Israele?	39 The rest of the history of Ahab, his entire career, the ivory house he erected, al the towns he built, isthis not recorded in the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Israel?
40 Acab si addormentò con i suoi padri e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Acazia.	40 When Ahab fel asleep with his ancestors, his son Ahaziah succeeded him.
41 Giòsafat, figlio di Asa, divenne re su Giuda l’anno quarto di Acab, re d’Israele.	41 Jehoshaphat son of Asa became king of Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel.
42 Giòsafat aveva trentacinque anni quando divenne re; regnò venticinque anni a Gerusalemme. Sua madre si chiamava Azubà, figlia di Silchì.	42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he came to the throne, and he reigned for twenty-fiveyears in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.
43 Seguì in tutto la via di Asa, suo padre, non si allontanò da essa, facendo ciò che è retto agli occhi del Signore.	43 In every way he followed the example of his father Asa undeviatingly, doing what is pleasing toYahweh.
44 Ma non scomparvero le alture; il popolo ancora sacrificava e offriva incenso sulle alture.	44 The high places, however, were not abolished; the people stil offered sacrifice and incense on thehigh places.
45 Giòsafat fece pace con il re d’Israele.	45 Jehoshaphat was at peace with the king of Israel.
46 Le altre gesta di Giòsafat e la potenza con cui agì e combatté, non sono forse descritte nel libro delle Cronache dei re di Giuda?	46 The rest of the history of Jehoshaphat, the valour he showed, the wars he waged, is this not recordedin the Book of the Annals of the Kings of Judah?
47 Egli spazzò via dalla terra il resto dei prostituti sacri, che era rimasto al tempo di suo padre Asa.	47 The few male sacred prostitutes left over from the days of his father Asa, he expel ed from thecountry.
48 Allora non c’era re in Edom; lo sostituiva un governatore.	48 At the time, Edom had no king, and King
49 Giòsafat costruì navi di Tarsis per andare a cercare l’oro in Ofir; ma non ci andò, perché le navi si sfasciarono a Esion-Ghèber.	49 Jehoshaphat built ships of Tarshish to go to Ophir for gold, but they never made the voyage since theships were wrecked at Ezion-Geber.
50 Allora Acazia, figlio di Acab, disse a Giòsafat: «I miei servi vadano con i tuoi servi sulle navi». Ma Giòsafat non volle.	50 Ahaziah son of Ahab then proposed to Jehoshaphat, 'Let my men go to sea with yours.' ButJehoshaphat would not agree.
51 Giòsafat si addormentò con i suoi padri, fu sepolto con i suoi padri nella Città di Davide, suo padre, e al suo posto divenne re suo figlio Ioram.	51 When Jehoshaphat fel asleep with his ancestors he was buried in the City of his ancestor, David; hisson Jehoram succeeded him.
52 Acazia, figlio di Acab, divenne re su Israele a Samaria nell’anno diciassettesimo di Giòsafat, re di Giuda; regnò due anni su Israele.	52 Ahaziah son of Ahab became king of Israel in Samaria in the seventeenth year of Jehoshaphat king ofJudah, and reigned over Israel for two years.
53 Fece ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, seguendo la via di suo padre, quella di sua madre e quella di Geroboamo, figlio di Nebat, che aveva fatto peccare Israele.	53 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh, by following the example of his father and mother, and ofJeroboam son of Nebat who had led Israel into sin.
54 Servì Baal e si prostrò davanti a lui irritando il Signore, Dio d’Israele, come aveva fatto suo padre.	54 He served Baal and worshipped him, and provoked the anger of Yahweh God of Israel just as hisfather had done.
