Siracide 7

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Non fare il male, perché il male non ti prenda.	1 Do no evil, and evil wil not befal you;
2 Allontànati dall'iniquità ed essa si allontanerà da te.	2 shun wrong, and it wil avoid you.
3 Figlio, non seminare nei solchi dell'ingiustizia per non raccoglierne sette volte tanto.	3 My child, do not sow in the furrows of wickedness, for fear you have to reap them seven times over.
4 Non domandare al Signore il potere né al re un posto di onore.	4 Do not ask the Lord for the highest place, or the king for a seat of honour.
5 Non farti giusto davanti al Signore né saggio davanti al re.	5 Do not parade your uprightness before the Lord, or your wisdom before the king.
6 Non cercare di divenire giudice, che poi ti manchi la forza di estirpare l'ingiustizia; altrimenti temeresti alla presenza del potente e getteresti una macchia sulla tua dirittura.	6 Do not scheme to be appointed judge, for fear you should not be strong enough to stamp out injustice,for fear of being swayed by someone influential and so of risking the loss of your integrity.
7 Non offendere l'assemblea della città e non degradarti in mezzo al popolo.	7 Do not wrong the general body of citizens and so lower yourself in popular esteem.
8 Non ti impigliare due volte nel peccato, perché neppure di uno resterai impunito.	8 Do not be drawn to sin twice over, for you wil not go unpunished even once.
9 Non dire: "Egli guarderà all'abbondanza dei miei doni, e quando farò l'offerta al Dio altissimo egli l'accetterà".	9 Do not say, 'God will be impressed by my numerous offerings; when I sacrifice to God Most High, he isbound to accept.'
10 Non mancar di fiducia nella tua preghiera e non trascurare di fare elemosina.	10 Do not be hesitant in prayer; do not neglect to give alms.
11 Non deridere un uomo dall'animo amareggiato, poiché c'è chi umilia e innalza.	11 Do not laugh at someone who is sad of heart, for he who brings low can lift up high.
12 Non fabbricare menzogne contro tuo fratello e neppure qualcosa di simile contro l'amico.	12 Do not make up lies against your brother, nor against a friend either.
13 Non volere in nessun modo ricorrere alla menzogna, perché le sue conseguenze non sono buone.	13 Mind you tel no lies, for no good can come of it.
14 Non parlar troppo nell'assemblea degli anziani e non ripetere le parole della tua preghiera.	14 Do not talk too much at the gathering of elders, and do not repeat yourself at your prayers.
15 Non disprezzare il lavoro faticoso, neppure l'agricoltura creata dall'Altissimo.	15 Do not shirk tiring jobs or farm work, ordained by the Most High.
16 Non unirti alla moltitudine dei peccatori, ricòrdati che la collera divina non tarderà.	16 Do not swell the ranks of sinners, remember that the retribution wil not delay.
17 Umilia profondamente la tua anima, perché castigo dell'empio sono fuoco e vermi.	17 Be very humble, since the recompense for the godless is fire and worms.
18 Non cambiare un amico per interesse, né un fratello fedele per l'oro di Ofir.	18 Do not barter a friend away for the sake of profit, nor a true brother for the gold of Ophir.
19 Non disdegnare una sposa saggia e buona, poiché la sua bontà val più dell'oro.	19 Do not turn against a wise and good wife; her gracious presence is worth more than gold.
20 Non maltrattare uno schiavo che lavora fedelmente né un mercenario che dà tutto se stesso.	20 Do not il -treat a slave who is an honest worker, or a wage-earner who is devoted to you.
21 Ami l'anima tua un servo saggio e non ricusargli la libertà.	21 Love an intel igent slave with al your heart, and do not deny such a slave his freedom.
22 Hai bestiame? Abbine cura; se ti è utile, resti in tuo possesso.	22 Have you cattle? Look after them; if they are making you a profit, keep them.
23 Hai figli? Educali e sottomettili fin dalla giovinezza.	23 Have you children? Educate them, from childhood make them bow the neck.
24 Hai figlie? Vigila sui loro corpi e non mostrare loro un volto troppo indulgente.	24 Have you daughters? Take care of their bodies, but do not be over-indulgent.
25 Accasa una figlia e avrai compiuto un grande affare; ma sposala a un uomo assennato.	25 Marry a daughter off, and you have finished a great work; but give her to a man of sense.
26 Hai una moglie secondo il tuo cuore? Non ripudiarla; ma di quella odiata non fidarti.	26 Have you a wife to your liking? Do not turn her out; but if you do not love her, never trust her.
27 Onora tuo padre con tutto il cuore e non dimenticare i dolori di tua madre.	27 With al your heart honour your father, never forget the birthpangs of your mother.
28 Ricorda che essi ti hanno generato; che darai loro in cambio di quanto ti hanno dato?	28 Remember that you owe your birth to them; how can you repay them for what they have done for you?
29 Temi con tutta l'anima il Signore e riverisci i suoi sacerdoti.	29 With al your soul, fear the Lord and revere his priests.
30 Ama con tutta la forza chi ti ha creato e non trascurare i suoi ministri.	30 With al your might love him who made you, and do not abandon his ministers.
31 Temi il Signore e onora il sacerdote, consegna la sua parte, come ti è stato comandato: primizie, sacrifici espiatori, offerta delle spalle, vittima di santificazione e primizie delle cose sante.	31 Fear the Lord and honour the priest and give him the portion enjoined on you: first-fruits, sacrifice ofreparation, shoulder-gift, sanctification sacrifice, first-fruits of the holy things.
32 Al povero stendi la tua mano, perché sia perfetta la tua benedizione.	32 And also give generously to the poor, so that your blessing may lack nothing.
33 La tua generosità si estenda a ogni vivente e al morto non negare la tua grazia.	33 Let your generosity extend to al the living, do not withhold it even from the dead.
34 Non evitare coloro che piangono e con gli afflitti mòstrati afflitto.	34 Do not turn your back on those who weep, but share the grief of the grief-stricken.
35 Non indugiare a visitare un malato, perché per questo sarai amato.	35 Do not shrink from visiting the sick; in this way you wil make yourself loved.
36 In tutte le tue opere ricordati della tua fine e non cadrai mai nel peccato.	36 In everything you do, remember your end, and you wil never sin.
