| 5 David e tutta la casa di Israele facevano festa innanzi a Jahv, con tutte le forze e con canti, con cetre, con ape, con timpani, con sistri, con cembali. | 5 David and the whole House of Israel danced before Yahweh with al their might, singing to theaccompaniment of harps, lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals. |
| 6 Giunti all’aia di Nachon, Uzza stese la mano sull’arca di Dio e vi si aggrappò, perchè i buoi l’avevano fatta pericolare. | 6 When they came to Nacon's threshing-floor, Uzzah reached his hand out to the ark of God andsteadied it, as the oxen were making it tilt. |
| 7 Allora si accese l'ira di Jahve contro Uzza e Dio lo colpì ivi perchè aveva steso la mano sull’arca; quegli morì ivi, presso l’arca di Dio. | 7 This roused Yahweh's anger against Uzzah, and for this crime God struck him down on the spot, andthere he died beside the ark of God. |
| 8 A David dispiacque che Jahve avesse fatto breccia su Uzza; quel luogo fu chiamato Perez-Uzza fino ad oggi. | 8 David resented Yahweh's having broken out against Uzzah, and the place was given the name Perez-Uzzah, which it still has today. |
| 9 David in quel giorno fu preso da timore per Jahve e disse: «È mai possibile che venga da me l’arca di Jahve?». | 9 That day David felt afraid of Yahweh. 'How can the ark of Yahweh come to be with me?' he said. |
| 10 David non volle trasportare presso di sè l’arca di Jahve sulla città di David, ma la fece deviare alla casa di Obed-Edom il Gattita. | 10 So David decided not to take the ark of Yahweh with him into the city of David but diverted it to thehouse of Obed-Edom of Gath. |
| 11 L’arca di Jahve stette tre mesi in casa di Obed-Edom il Gattita e Jahve benedisse Obed-Edom e tutta la sua casa. | 11 The ark of Yahweh remained in the house of Obed-Edom of Gath for three months, and Yahwehblessed Obed-Edom and his whole family. |
| 12 Fu riferito al re David: « Jahve ha benedetto la casa di Obed-Edom e tutto ciò che egli ha a causa dell’arca di Dio! ». Allora David andò e fece salire l’arca di Dio dalla casa di Obed-Edom alla città di David. | 12 King David was informed that Yahweh had blessed Obed-Edom's family and everything belonging tohim on account of the ark of God. David accordingly went and, amid great rejoicing, brought the ark of God upfrom Obed-Edom's house to the City of David. |
| 13 I portatori dell’arca di Jahve avevano appunto fatto sei passi quando fu sacrificato un bue e un montone grasso. | 13 When the bearers of the ark of Yahweh had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fat sheep. |
| 14 David danzava con tutte le forze dinanzi a Jahve, cinto di un efod di lino. | 14 And David danced whirling round before Yahweh with al his might, wearing a linen loincloth. |
| 15 In tale maniera David e tutto Israele conducevano l’arca di Jahve; in mezzo ad acclamazioni e a squilli di tromba. | 15 Thus with war cries and blasts on the horn, David and the entire House of Israel brought up the ark ofYahweh. |
| 16 Allora, mentre l’arca di Jahve entrava nella città di David, Michol, figlia di Saul, stava guardando attraverso la finestra. Come vide il re David saltare e danzare davanti a Jahve, lo disprezzò nel suo cuore. | 16 Now as the ark of Yahweh entered the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul was watching from thewindow and when she saw King David leaping and whirling round before Yahweh, the sight of him fil ed her withcontempt. |
| 17 Portarono dunque l’arca di Jahve e la deposero nel suo luogo, in mezzo alla Tenda che David aveva steso per essa: poi David offrì olocausti dinanzi a Jahve e sacrifici pacifici. | 17 They brought the ark of Yahweh in and put it in position, inside the tent which David had erected for it;and David presented burnt offerings and communion sacrifices in Yahweh's presence. |
| 18 Quando David ebbe finito di offrire gli olocausti e i sacrifici pacifici, benedisse il popolo nel nome di Jahve; | 18 And when David had finished presenting burnt offerings, he blessed the people in the name ofYahweh Sabaoth. |
| 19 poi distribuì a tutto il popolo, all’intera moltitudine di Israele, agli uomini, alle donne, a ciascuno una ciambella di pane, un pezzo di carne e un pasticcio d’uva. Dopo questo, tutto il popolo se ne andò ciascuno alla sua casa. | 19 To al the people, to the whole multitude of Israelites, men and women, he then distributed to each aloaf of bread, a portion of dates and a raisin cake. Then the people al went back to their homes. |
| 20 Quando poi David tornò per benedire la sua casa, Michol, figlia di Saul, gli andò incontro e disse: « Che gloria si è acquistato il re di Israele, il quale si è spogliato oggi sotto gli occhi delle schiave dei suoi servitori come suole spogliarsi un qualsiasi saltimbanco ». | 20 As David was coming back to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him.'Much honour the king of Israel has won today,' she said, 'making an exhibition of himself under the eyes of hisservant-maids, making an exhibition of himself like a buffoon!' |

As Yahweh lives, who chose me inpreference to your father and his whole family to make me leader of Israel, Yahweh's people, I shal dancebefore Yahweh and |
| 22 e mi denuderò ancora più di così, sebbene io diventi spregevole ai tuoi occhi; ma presso le schiave di cui hai parlato, presso di esse mi acquisterò onore! ». | 22 lower myself even further than that. | 23 Michol, figlia di Saul, non ebbe figli fino al giorno della sua morte. | 23 And to the day of her death, Michal, daughter of Saul, had no children. |
