Isaia 47

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Descende, sede in pulvere, virgo filia Babylon; sede in terra sine solio, filia Chaldaeorum, quia ultra non vocaberis mollis et tenera.	1 Step down! Sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground, no throne, daughter of theChaldaeans, for never again will you be cal ed tender and delicate.
2 Tolle molam et mole farinam; depone velum tuum, subleva stolam, revela crura, transi flumina.	2 Take the grinding mil , crush up the meal. Remove your veil, tie up your skirt, bare your legs, cross therivers.
3 Revelabitur ignominia tua, et videbitur opprobrium tuum. “ Ultionem capiam, nemini parcam ”,	3 Let your nakedness be displayed and your shame exposed. I am going to take vengeance and no onewil stand in my way.
4 dicit Redemptor noster, Dominus exercituum nomen illius, Sanctus Israel.	4 Our redeemer, Yahweh Sabaoth is his name, the Holy One of Israel, says:

9 Venient tibi duo haec subito in die una, orbitas et viduitas; repente venerunt super te propter multitudinem maleficiorum tuorum, propter abundantiam incantationum tuarum.	9 Yet both these things wil befall you, suddenly, in one day. Bereavement and widowhood wil suddenlybefal you in spite of al your witchcraft and the potency of your spel s.
10 Et fiduciam habuisti in malitia tua et dixisti: “ Non est qui videat me ”. Sapientia tua et scientia tua, haec decepit te. Et dixisti in corde tuo: “ Ego, et praeter me non est altera ”.	10 Confident in your wickedness, you thought, 'No one can see me.' Your wishes and your knowledgewere what deluded you, as you thought to yourself, 'I am the only one who matters.'
11 Veniet super te malum, et nescies avertere; et irruet super te calamitas, quam non poteris expiare; veniet super te repente miseria, quam nescies.	11 Hence, disaster wil befal you which you wil not know how to charm away, calamity overtake youwhich you wil not be able to avert, ruination will suddenly befal you, such as you have never known.
12 Sta cum incantationibus tuis et cum multitudine maleficiorum tuorum, in quibus laborasti ab adulescentia tua: forte poteris iuvari, forte terrebis.	12 Keep to your spel s then, and al your sorceries, at which you have worked so hard since you wereyoung. Perhaps you wil succeed, perhaps you wil strike terror!
13 Defecisti in multitudine consiliorum tuorum; stent et salvent te, qui metiuntur caelum, qui contemplantur sidera et annuntiant singulis noviluniis ventura tibi.	13 You have had many tiring consultations: let the astrologers come forward now and save you, the star-gazers who announce month by month what wil happen to you next.
14 Ecce facti sunt quasi stipula, ignis combussit eos. Non liberabunt seipsos de manu flammae; non sunt prunae, quibus calefiant, nec focus, ut sedeant ad eum.	14 Look, they are like wisps of straw, the fire wil burn them up.
