1 Hae sunt autem generationes Esau. Ipse est Edom.	1 These are the descendants of Esau, that is, Edom.
2 Esau accepit uxores de filiabus Chanaan: Ada filiam Elon Hetthaei et Oolibama filiam Ana filii Sebeon Horraei;	2 Esau chose his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, Oholibamahdaughter of Anah, son of Zibeon the Horite,
3 Basemath quoque filiam Ismael sororem Nabaioth.	3 Basemath daughter of Ishmael and sister of Nebaioth.
4 Peperit autem Ada Eliphaz, Basemath genuit Rahuel,	4 Adah bore Eliphaz to Esau, Basemath bore Reuel,
5 Oolibama genuit Iehus et Ialam et Core. Hi filii Esau, qui nati sunt ei in terra Chanaan.	5 Oholibamah bore Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These were the sons of Esau born to him in Canaan.
6 Tulit autem Esau uxores suas et filios et filias et omnes animas domus suae et pecora armenta et cuncta, quae acquisierat in terra Chanaan, et abiit in terram Seir; recessitque a fratre suo Iacob.	6 Esau took his wives, his sons and daughters, al the members of his household, his livestock, al hiscattle and al the goods he had acquired in Canaan and left for Seir, away from his brother Jacob.
7 Divites enim erant valde et simul habitare non poterant; nec sustinebat eos terra peregrinationis eorum prae multitudine gregum.	7 For they had acquired too much to live together. The land in which they were at that time could notsupport them both because of their livestock.
8 Habitavitque Esau in monte Seir. Ipse est Edom.	8 That is why Edom settled in the mountainous region of Seir. Esau is Edom.
9 Hae autem sunt generationes Esau patris Edom in monte Seir,	9 These are the descendants of Esau, ancestor of Edom, in the mountainous region of Seir.
10 et haec nomina filiorum eius: Eliphaz filius Ada uxoris Esau, Rahuel quoque filius Basemath uxoris eius.	10 These are the names of Esau's sons: Eliphaz son of Esau's wife Adah, and Reuel son of Esau's wifeBasemath.
11 Fueruntque Eliphaz filii: Theman, Omar, Sepho et Gatham et Cenez.	11 The sons of Eliphaz were: Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam and Kenaz.
12 Erat autem Thamna concubina Eliphaz filii Esau, quae peperit ei Amalec. Hi sunt filii Ada uxoris Esau.	12 Eliphaz son of Esau had Timna for concubine and she bore him Amalek. These were the sons ofEsau's wife Adah.
13 Filii autem Rahuel: Nahath et Zara, Samma et Meza; hi filii Basemath uxoris Esau.	13 These were the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah. These were the sons ofEsau's wife Basemath.

16 dux Core, dux Gatham, dux Amalec. Hi duces Eliphaz in terra Edom; hi filii Ada.	16 Gatam and Amalek. These are the chieftains of Eliphaz in Edom and are descended from Adah.
17 Hi filii Rahuel filii Esau: dux Nahath, dux Zara, dux Samma, dux Meza. Hi duces Rahuel in terra Edom; isti filii Basemath uxoris Esau.	17 The descendants of Esau's son Reuel: the chieftains of Nahath, Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah.These are the chieftains of Reuel in Edom and are descended from Esau's wife Basemath.
18 Hi filii Oolibama uxoris Esau: dux Iehus, dux Ialam, dux Core. Hi duces Oolibama filiae Ana uxoris Esau.	18 The descendants of Esau's wife Oholibamah: the chieftains of Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These arethe chieftains of Esau's wife Oholibamah daughter of Anah.
19 Isti sunt filii Esau et hi duces eorum. Ipse est Edom.	19 These were the sons of Esau -- that is, Edom -- and these are their chieftains.
20 Isti sunt filii Seir Horraei habitatores terrae: Lotan et Sobal et Sebeon et Ana	20 These are the sons of Seir the Horite, natives of the country: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,
21 et Dison et Eser et Disan; hi duces Horraei filii Seir in terra Edom.	21 Dishon, Ezer and Dishan; these were the Horite chieftains descended from Seir, in Edom.
22 Facti sunt autem filii Lotan: Hori et Hemam; erat autem soror Lotan Thamna.	22 The sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam, and Lotan's sister was Timna.
23 Et isti filii Sobal: Alvan et Manahath et Ebal, Sepho et Onam.	23 These are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho and Onam.
24 Et hi filii Sebeon: Aia et Ana. Iste est Ana, qui invenit aquas calidas in solitudine, cum pasceret asinos Sebeon patris sui.	24 These are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah, Anah -- the Anah who found the hot springs in the desert whilepasturing his father Zibeon's donkeys.
25 Habuitque filium Dison et filiam Oolibama.	25 These are the children of Anah: Dishon, and Oholibamah daughter of Anah.

31 Reges autem, qui regnaverunt in terra Edom, antequam haberent regem filii Israel, fuerunt hi.	31 These are the kings who reigned in Edom before an Israelite king.
32 Regnavit in Edom Bela filius Beor, nomenque urbis eius Denaba.	32 In Edom reigned Bela son of Beor; his city was cal ed Dinhabah.
33 Mortuus est autem Bela, et regnavit pro eo Iobab filius Zarae de Bosra.	33 Bela died and Jobab son of Zerah, from Bozrah, succeeded.
34 Cumque mortuus esset Iobab, regnavit pro eo Husam de terra Themanorum.	34 Jobab died and Husham from the land of the Temanites succeeded.
35 Hoc quoque mortuo, regnavit pro eo Adad filius Badad, qui percussit Madian in regione Moab; et nomen urbis eius Avith.	35 Husham died and Hadad son of Bedad succeeded; he defeated the Midianites in Moab, and his citywas called Avith.
36 Cumque mortuus esset Adad, regnavit pro eo Semla de Masreca.	36 Hadad died and Samlah of Masrekah succeeded.
37 Hoc quoque mortuo, regnavit pro eo Saul de Rohoboth iuxta fluvium.	37 Samlah died and Shaul of Rehoboth-ha-Nahar succeeded.
38 Cumque et hic obiisset, successit in regnum Baalhanan filius Achobor.	38 Shaul died and Baal-Hanan son of Achbor succeeded.
39 Isto quoque mortuo, regnavit pro eo Adad, nomenque urbis eius Phau; et appellabatur uxor eius Meetabel filia Matred filiae Mezaab.	39 Baal-Hanan died and Hadad succeeded; his city was called Pau and his wife's name was Mehetabeldaughter of Matred, from Mezahab.
40 Haec ergo nomina ducum Esau in cognationibus et locis et vocabulis suis: dux Thamna, dux Alva, dux Ietheth,	40 These are the names of the chieftains of Esau -- according to their clans and localities: the chieftainsof Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,
41 dux Oolibama, dux Ela, dux Phinon,	41 Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon,
42 dux Cenez, dux Theman, dux Mabsar,	42 Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar,
43 dux Magdiel, dux Iram. Hi duces Edom habitantes in terra imperii sui. Ipse est Esau pater Idumaeorum.	43 Magdiel and Iram. These are the chieftains of Edom, as settled in the territory which they own. Esauwas Edom's ancestor.
