1 E terminato che ebbe tutti i suoi discorsi al popolo, che lo ascoltava; entrò in Cafarnaum.	1 And when he had completed all his words in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.
2 E il servo di un certo centurione caro a lui era ammalato, e vicino a morire.	2 Now the servant of a certain centurion was dying, due to an illness. And he was very dear to him.
3 E avendo quegli sentito parlare di Gesù, mandò da lui gli anziani dei giudei a pregarlo, che andasse a guarire il suo servo.	3 And when he had heard about Jesus, he sent elders of the Jews to him, petitioning him, so that he would come and heal his servant.
4 Questi adunque' essendo andati a trovar Gesù, lo pregavano istantemente, dicendogli: Egli merita, che tu gli faccia questa grazia.	4 And when they had come to Jesus, they petitioned him anxiously, saying to him: “He is worthy that you should provide this to him.
5 Imperocché ama la nostra nazione, e ci ha fabbricata egli stesso la sinagoga.	5 For he loves our nation, and he has built a synagogue for us.”
6 Gesù adunque andò con loro. E quando era già poco lontan dalla casa, il centurione mandò a lui degli amici, per dirgli: Signore, non ti incomodare: imperocché non sono io degno, che tu entri sotto il mio tetto:	6 Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying: “Lord, do not trouble yourself. For I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof.
7 E per questo non mi sono nemmen io medesimo creduto degno di venir da te: ma ordina con un sol motto, e il mio servo sarà risanato.	7 Because of this, I also did not consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant shall be healed.
8 Imperocché anch'io sono un uomo subordinato, che ho sotto di me de' soldati: e dico a uno: Vanne, ed egli va; ed a un altro: Vieni, ed egli viene; e al mio servo: Fa la tal cosa, e la fa.	8 For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
9 Lo che udito avendo Gesù, ne restò ammirato: e rivolto alla turba, che lo seguiva, disse: In verità vi dico, che non ho trovato tanta fede nemmeno in Israele.	9 And upon hearing this, Jesus was amazed. And turning to the multitude following him, he said, “Amen I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such great faith.”
10 E coloro, che erano stati mandati, ritornando a casa, trovarono guarito il servo, che era stato malato.	10 And those who had been sent, upon returning to the house, found that the servant, who had been sick, was now healthy.
11 E avvenne, che di poi egli andava a una città chiamata Naim: e andavan seco i suoi discepoli, e una gran turba di popolo.	11 And it happened afterwards that he went to a city, which is called Nain. And his disciples, and an abundant crowd, went with him.
12 E quand' ei fu vicino alla porta della città, ecco che veniva portato fuori alla sepoltura un figliuolo unico di sua madre: e questa era vedova: e gran numero di persone della citta la accompagnavano.	12 Then, when he had drawn near to the gate of the city, behold, a deceased person was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the city was with her.
13 E vedutala il Signore, mosso di lei a compassione, le disse: Non piangere.	13 And when the Lord had seen her, being moved by mercy over her, he said to her, “Do not weep.”
14 E avvicinossi alla bara, e la toccò. (E quelli, che la portavano, si fermarono) Ed egli disse: Giovinetto, dico a te, levati su.	14 And he drew near and touched the coffin. Then those who carried it stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.”
15 E il morto si alzò a sedere, e principiò a parlare. Ed egli lo rendette a sua madre.	15 And the dead youth sat up and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.
16 Ed entrò in tutti un gran timore: e glorificavano Dio, dicendo: Un profeta grande è apparso tra noi: e ha Dio visitato il suo popolo.	16 Then fear fell over all of them. And they magnified God, saying: “For a great prophet has risen up among us,” and, “For God has visited his people.”
17 E questa opinione intorno ad esso si sparse per tutta la Giudea, e pertutto il paese all'intorno.	17 And this word about him went out to all of Judea and to the entire surrounding region.
18 E i discepoli di Giovanni riferirono a lui tutte queste cose.	18 And the disciples of John reported to him concerning all these things.
19 E Giovanni chiamati due de' suoi discepoli, li mandò da Gesù a dirgli: Se' tu colui, che dee venire, o dobbiamo aspettar un altro?	19 And John called two of his disciples, and he sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you he who is to come, or should we wait for another?”
20 E quegli andati da lui gli dissero: Giovanni Batista ci ha mandati da te a dirti: Se' tu colui, che dee venire, o dobbiamo aspettare un altro?	20 But when the men had come to him, they said: “John the Baptist has sent us to you, saying: ‘Are you he who is to come, or should we wait for another?’ ”
21 (Or nello stesso tempo egli liberò molti dalle malattie, e dalle piaghe, e da' maligni spiriti, e donò il vedere a molti ciechi).	21 Now in that same hour, he cured many of their diseases and wounds and evil spirits; and to many of the blind, he gave sight.
22 E rispose loro: Andate, riferite a Giovanni quel, che avete udito, e veduto: i ciechi veggono, gli zoppi camminano, i lebbrosi sono mondati, i sordi odono, i morti risuscitano, e si annuncia a' poveri il Vangelo:	22 And responding, he said to them: “Go and report to John what you have heard and seen: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead rise again, the poor are evangelized.
23 E beato, chi non sarà scandalizzato per me.	23 And blessed is anyone who has not taken offense at me.”
24 E partiti che furono i messi di Giovanni, cominciò egli a dire di Giovanni alle turbe: Che siete voi andati a vedere nel deserto? forse una canna scossa dal vento?	24 And when the messengers of John had withdrawn, he began to speak about John to the crowds. “What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed shaken by the wind?
25 Ma pure, che siete voi andati a vedere? forse un uomo delicatamente vestito? Certo, che coloro, che portano abiti preziosi, e stanno sul lusso, vivono nelle case dei re.	25 Then what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are in costly apparel and finery are in the houses of kings.
26 Ma che è quello, che siete andati a vedere? un profeta? Si certamente, io vi dico, e ancor più che profeta:	26 Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Certainly, I tell you, and more than a prophet.
27 Questi è colui, del quale sta scritto: Ecco che io spedisco il mio Angelo innanzi a te, il quale preparerà al tuo venire la strada.	27 This is he of whom it is written: “Behold, I send my Angel before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.”
28 Imperocché io vi dico, che tra i nati di donna, profeta maggiore di Giovanni il Batista non v' è. Ma il più piccolo nel regno di Dio è maggiore di lui.	28 For I say to you, among those born of women, no one is greater than the prophet John the Baptist. But he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”
29 E tutto il popolo che lo ascoltò, e i pubblicani han dato gloria a Dio, essendosi battezzati col battesimo di Giovanni.	29 And upon hearing this, all the people and the tax collectors justified God, by being baptized with the baptism of John.
30 Ma i Farisei e i dottori della legge per loro danno disprezzarono i disegni di Dio, non essendosi fatti da lui battezzare.	30 But the Pharisees and the experts in the law despised the counsel of God concerning themselves, by not being baptized by him.
31 Disse poi il Signore: A qual cosa adunque paragonerò io gli uomini di questa generazione? E a qual cosa sono simili?	31 Then the Lord said: “Therefore, to what shall I compare the men of this generation? And to what are they similar?
32 Sono simili a quei fanciulli, che seggono sulla piazza, e intuonano gli uni agli altri: Vi abbiamo sanato la sampogna, e non avete ballato: vi abbiamo cantato cose lugubri, e non avete pianto.	32 They are like children sitting in the marketplace, talking with one another, and saying: ‘We sang to you, and you did not dance. We lamented, and you did not weep.’
33 Conciossiachè venne Giovanni Batista, che non mangia pane, né beve vino, e voi dite: Egli è indemoniato.	33 For John the Baptist came, neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’
34 Venne il Figliuolo dell'uomo, che mangia, e beve, e voi dite: Ecco il mangione, e il bevone, amico de' pubblicani, e de' peccatori.	34 The Son of man came, eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a voracious man and a drinker of wine, a friend of tax collectors and of sinners.’
35 Ma è stata giustificata la sapienza da tutti i suoi figliuoli.	35 But wisdom is justified by all her children.”
36 E uno de' Farisei lo pregò, che andasse a mangiar da lui. Ed entrato in casa del Fariseo si pose a tavola.	36 Then certain Pharisees petitioned him, so that they might eat with him. And he went into the house of the Pharisee, and he reclined at table.
37 Quand'ecco una donna, che era peccatrice in quella città, appena ebbe inteso, com' egli era a tavola in casa del Fariseo, prese un alabastro di unguento:	37 And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner, found out that he was reclining at table in the house of the Pharisee, so she brought an alabaster container of ointment.
38 E stando di dietro a' suoi piedi, cominciò a bagnare i piedi di lui colle lagrime, e rasciugavali con i capelli della sua testa, e li baciava, e gli ungeva con l'unguento.	38 And standing behind him, beside his feet, she began to wash his feet with tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, and she kissed his feet, and she anointed them with ointment.
39 Or vedendo ciò il Fariseo, che lo aveva invitato, disse dentro di se: Se costui fosse profeta, certamente saprebbe, chi, e quale sia la donna, la quale lo tocca: e come ella è peccatrice.	39 Then the Pharisee, who had invited him, upon seeing this, spoke within himself, saying, “This man, if he were a prophet, would certainly know who and what kind of woman is this, who is touching him: that she is a sinner.”
40 E Gesù gli rispose, e disse: Simone, ho qualche cosa da dirti. Ed egli disse: Maestro, parla.	40 And in response, Jesus said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.” So he said, “Speak, Teacher.”
41 Un creditore aveva due debitori: uno doveagli cinquecento denari, e l'altro cinquanta.	41 “A certain creditor had two debtors: one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.
42 Non avendo quegli il modo di pagare, condonò il debito ad ambedue. Chi adunque di essi lo ama di più?	42 And since they did not have the ability to repay him, he forgave them both. So then, which of them loves him more?”
43 Rispose Simone: Penso, che quegli, cui ha condonato di più. Ed ei disselli: Rettamente hai giudicato.	43 In response, Simon said, “I suppose that it is he to whom he forgave the most.” And he said to him, “You have judged correctly.”
44 E rivolto alla donna, disse a Simone: vedi tu questa donna? Sono entrato in tua casa, non hai dato acqua a' miei piedi: e questa ha bagnato i miei piedi colle sue lagrime, e gli ha asciugati co' suoi capelli.	44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon: “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house. You gave me no water for my feet. But she has washed my feet with tears, and has wiped them with her hair.
45 Non hai a me dato il bacio: questa da che è venuta, non ha rifinito di baciare i miei piedi.	45 You gave no kiss to me. But she, from the time that she entered, has not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 Non hai unto con olio il mio capo: e questa ha unti con unguento i miei piedi.	46 You did not anoint my head with oil. But she has anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Per la qual cosa ti dico: Le sono rimessi molti peccati, perché molto ha amato. Or meno ama, a cui meno si perdona.	47 Because of this, I tell you: many sins are forgiven her, because she has loved much. But he who is forgiven less, loves less.”
48 E a lei disse: Ti son rimessi i peccati.	48 Then he said to her, “Your sins are forgiven you.”
49 E i convitati cominciarono a dire dentro di se: Chi è costui, che fin rimette i peccati?	49 And those who sat at table with him began to say within themselves, “Who is this, who even forgives sins?”
50 Ed egli disse alla donna: La tua fede ti ha fatta salva: Vanne in pace.	50 Then he said to the woman: “Your faith has brought you salvation. Go in peace.”
