Prima lettera ai Tessalonicesi 5

BIBBIA TINTORI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 In quanto al tempo e al momento, non avete bisogno, o fratelli, che ve ne scriviamo;	1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you
2 perchè voi stessi sapete benissimo che il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte;	2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.
3 quando infatti diranno: « pace e sicurezza » allora li sorprenderà improvvisamente la rovina, come le doglie del parto sorprendono la donna incinta, e non avranno scampo.	3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.
4 Ma voi, o fratelli, non siete nelle tenebre onde possa quel giorno sorprendervi come un ladro,	4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.
5 voi tutti siete figli della luce, e figli del giorno. Noi non siamo della notte e dello tenebre,	5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,
6 quindi cerchiamo non di dormire come gli altri, ma di vegliare, di essere sobrii;	6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.
7 perchè quei che dormono, dormono di notte, e quelli che s'inebriano, s'inebriano di notte.	7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,
8 Ma noi, che siamo (figlioli) del giorno, dobbiamo essere sobrii e indossare la corazza della fede e della carità, e portare per elmo la speranza della salute;	8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.
9 perchè Dio non ci ha destinati all'ira, ma all'acquisto della salute pel Signore nostro Gesù Cristo,	9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 il quale è morto per noi, affinchè, sia che vegliamo, sia che dormiamo, viviamo insieme con lui.	10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.
11 Perciò consolatevi a vicenda e siate di edificazione l'uno all'altro, come state facendo.	11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.
12 Vi preghiamo, o fratelli, diaver riguardo a coloro che fati­cano tra di voi, vi governano nelSignore e vi istruiscono:	12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.
13 abbiateli sommamente cari, a motivo delle loro fatiche, e vivete in pace con essi.	13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.
14 V'esortiamo ancora, o fratelli, a correggere gl'inquieti, a consolare i pusillanimi, a sostenere i deboli, ad esser pazienti con tutti.	14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.
15 Badate che nessuno renda ad un altro male per male; ma cercate sempre di far del bene tra di voi e verso di tutti.	15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.
16 Siate sempre allegri.	16 Always be joyful;
17 Non cessate mai di pregare.	17 pray constantly;
18 In ogni cosa rendete grazie, perchè tale è la volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesù riguardo a tutti voi.	18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.
19 Non spegnete lo Spirito.	19 Do not stifle the Spirit
20 Non disprezzate le profezie;	20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;
21 ma esaminate tutto e ritenete il bene.	21 test everything and hold on to what is good
22 Guardatevi da ogni apparenza di male.	22 and shun every form of evil.
23 Lo stesso Dio della pace vi santifichi completamente, in modo che tutto il vostro spirito e anima e il corpo si conservino irreprensibili per quando verrà il Signore nostro Gesù Cristo.	23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Chi vi chiama è fedele e farà anche questo.	24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.
25 Fratelli, pregate per noi.	25 Pray for us, my brothers.
26 Salutate tutti i fratelli col bacio santo.	26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 Vi scongiuro pel Signore che questa lettera sia letta a tutti i santi fratelli.	27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.
